In 2018 the Seabourn Quest sat in this same spot for several hours waiting for a break in the weather but it never came.  The winds kept us out of that harbor thanks to the tiny opening it was left with after the volcanic eruption.   I believe that was in 1973.  I really wanted to see that port and be on the lookout for puffins.  Here's what it looked like in August. 2018.enhance

👍Thank You Rich @richwmn for the Daily and to Jacqui @kazu for both the Care and Celebration List.😊 Prayers for all in need and also to Roy @rafinmd!🙏

Good Memories from 2x's to Iceland. 🚢First on a Princess cruise that included the Grand ( or was it half?) Circle Tour with the Blue Lagoon with a wonderful group off Cruise Critics who organized the excursion.

✈We also took advantage of the Icelandic promotion of a stop-over ( 5 days?) from Amsterdam to Seattle.

Land tours were arranged with local companies in Reykjavik and we did a lot of walking to sites. Plus back to the Blue Lagoon!! Iceland is a favorite and would love to do a circumnavigation next time! 🇮🇸

😉Take care everyone,

Katie

@StLouis Cruiser I have been meaning to tell you "THANKYOU" for all of the wonderful pictures of church buildings and cathedrals you include in your port posts. Today is just another example of the unique architecture people have incorporated into their worship.

You're welcome!  I have been in so many churches, big and small, that I hope someone up there says "come on in" when I arrive at the Pearly Gates.  JK!!

Good early afternoon all!

I have really enjoyed the photos of Reykjavik - DH and I will be there next August, so it's great to see all the beautiful scenery and town pictures.  The cruise will be doing a circumnavigation of Iceland with 6 ports (I hope!) - Isafjordur, Akereyri, Seydisfjordur, Djupivogur, Reykjavid, and Grundarfjordur. I can't wait!!

I just planted my "vegetable garden" - 3 tomato plants in pots.  They were part of my Mother's Day present from my DSs, which also included 3 azaleas and two strawberry pots.  The azaleas were planted yesterday, and the strawberries are just waiting for a good spot to place the pots.

I do have a question for the Garden Club members - I have a lilac bush in my back yard, that has gotten to be  over 9' tall. How and when do I prune it?  Thanks in advance for your help!

So glad to hear of people getting better and moving to a new stage of healing.  Prayers for all who are dealing with health issues.  Congratulations to everyone on the celebration list!

Enjoy the day - it's going to be in the mid 80s here on Long Island....

Lilacs from their flower buds at the tips of their branches during the previous growing system.  If you want flowers next year, you need to prune them a week or 2 after they are done blooming.  They normally recommend pruning just under the panicles but if you need to prune heavily you will most likely just have fewer flowers next year.

If you wait too long to prune, you won’t have flowers next year.

Hope that helps.

Good Morning!

Thank you all who have posted pictures of Iceland.  It is on our "in the future" plans!  Hopefully back to sailing soon.

Quiet day here, as Holly and Biscuit (the puppies) have gone to "puppy daycare" in preparation for boarding this summer.  Usually a family member would keep them, but this time we have all 4 of the kids and families going on steam train ride.  We were able to rent the caboose for the 2 hour trip, which the Grands will love.  After no get togethers this past year we will venture on the train trip and then do some outdoor hiking type of things.  Look forward to spending time with the kids!

Enjoy this beautiful spring day.

Denise

You are most welcome.  I have a spring flowering shrub that works like the lilac and last year I forgot to prune it after it flowered.  (I was way behind everything with that dam broken foot).

It grows way too high so I pruned it in August - way too late.  And this is the result.

It should have flowers going all the way up but since I pruned way too late it doesn’t this year.  Believe me it will be done once the flowers are done this year.  Last year was the first time I mucked up 😔

I’ll add to Jacqui’s excellent advice to prune after the bloom,  to not prune more than a third per year.   I’ve been working on my lilac for three years that got overgrown.  It’s looking very healthy this year.  There’s some great you tube videos to checkout.

😎SD is my hometown...held 50th reunion at the Bahia a few yrs back. We stay at the Hilton by Petco Park when in town or at the Embassy Suites close to Tuna Park. 💕Lots of good memories down south even cruised from port. In 2020, SD graciously (good will) let the Maasdam passengers disembark ( 🚢 denied in HI) and then closed the port due to Covid.🙃

We were in Reykjavik , Iceland for a couple of days with the Eurodam in 2012 on the Voyage of the Vikings cruise .

Thank you all for posting a lot of very nice pictures which brought back some great memories . We had this extra day in Reykjavic because we had to skip our stop in the Shetland Islands due to a huge storm we had to go around that and because the days we were there were cold and rainy I went out by myself , did a lot of walking and exploring through Reykjavik went to the beautiful museum and had a real nice day , on the second day I joined a small group tour  that I had booked before we left to do the Golden Circle Tour  like I see many of you did .

I will see if I can post some pictures without duplicating too many .

I have to admit that we have never cruised to Iceland, but did stop in the airport once on an inexpensive flight on Icelandic Air from Seattle to LHR.  But I happened to be reading a book today and the author was discussing the Iceland phone book.  In it all people are listed alphabetically by their first names.  The phone book then lists the person's last name, their profession and, finally, their home address.  The profession listings don't have to be backed up by evidence you do what you claim to do.  So Iceland has six winners, nine sorcerers, eighteen cowboys, fourteen ghostbusters and two hen-whisperers.
