No surprise. Desantis has been pro business furing the pandemic.  Hard to believe DisneyWorld has been open for 11 months, Disneyland is still closed

Yes.  DeSantis has fought for businesses that operate in Florida.  It will be good when this is settled once and for all.  People may still be disappointed if RCL, Disney, and CCL continue to move forward with cruises for everyone, but this may give the vaccinated-only cruisers another choice.

Spin it anyway one wishes. It's a compromise because DeSantis wasn't going to win. Plus the fact cruiselines bring in 💰💰💰💰💰 to Florida's economy.

Wow, we certainly argue hard over something we have absolutely no control over. Either vaccines will or will not be required and each person will just have to decide if they are willing to cruise under the rules.

 

I personally think that vaccines will be required for the first few cruises and then the requirement will be dropped within two months of cruising resuming. Everything is almost back to normal now. Cruising will be soon also.

After losing the opportunity for judgement and forced to mediation, DeSantis had no choice but to compromise. I like the guy and agree with what he is trying to do. Once the CDC started to come to the plate, he needs to as well. He has to start pitching the ball. Because cruise lines are so much more unique, they can make an amendment for a win/win situation.

 

If he does agree to it, I think we see the cruise lines make a quick change to possibly require vaccination. Or, vaccinated passengers that have proof can board without testing between 11AM and 2PM. Passengers without vaccination must report to offsite testing facility, wait for results, wait for those to be sent to the cruise line, then given a boarding time between 2-3:30PM. If anyone tests positive in your group or anyone you are stuck waiting with in the testing facility, you will not be permitted to board.

In a couple of weeks we should have some indication of the Memorial Day covid spike. I think the cruise industry will be released from bondage before then.

I like that idea. Why should the unvaccinated hold up the line as they wait for test results. Give them a window time in the morning to take the test and then give them an area to sit and wait for their results.

And if even one test comes

back positive, the entire group will be denied boarding. 
I don’t give a rats ass on who is or is not vaccinated when I go to the store. But this is different and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna let a few stubborn people think only of themselves thus possibly ruining my cruise as we all get quarantined. Or even worse, the cruise lines get shutdown again.

In the meantime, those vaccinated can proceed to board as soon as the ship is cleared for new passengers. Just like normal times for them.

I’d also like to see a wristband system. If you’re vaccinated you get the wristband and do what you want and go where you want.

No wristband? Masks at all times in public and buffets are off limit!!

Yes, the Governor's office did.  This Fox Tampa report is 8 hours old and uses the Forbes article as a "source".  It should be updated to reflect that the Forbes reporting was already disputed.

Yep.  Just like the big scare that if Texas reopened, hundreds of thousands of people will die.  Same went for Spring Break here and the potential big spike - the big scare.  Well, numbers declined and Texas had days with zero deaths.  A lot of the BS is political.  A lot of it is for click-bait money as well.

Exactly. I am on vacation and not retirement like a lot of people that cruise. My time off of work is extremely valuable to me. I only accumulate 12 days per year of sick leave and vacation leave. When I take a week off to vacation, it is extremely important to me and my family. I don't want some retired anti-vaxxer ruining my vacation. It is not just the time off work, but the lost family time and lost money from the vacation.

So, now the Casino can open up too as soon as you board the ship. Plus the Tax free stores on board can be open in port.

Remember, though,this is a Carnival thread, so this doesn't affect the Carnival ships whatsoever, well, except they can now gamble and see tax free in port.

If true, you can be sure it is so state and local governments can collect their share of gambling proceeds, and sales tax (and perhaps other tax) on Duty Free stores. Duty free does not mean tax free - ask Texas.

I've been vaccinated for two months. I've been in hotels, airplanes, restaurants, bars, resorts, sporting events, and most recently a packed football stadium for a high school graduation and I haven't had to show proof of vaccination to anyone yet. I haven't even been asked if I've been vaccinated. The law is to prevent that from being required. I think there should be an exception for  someone who willingly shows proof of vaccination to get on a cruise ship. I think that's different than a restaurant requiring me to show proof of vaccination to eat there or a department store denying me admission without showing them a part of my medical records. That's what this is really about. The cruise industry just gets caught up in it because the CDC has their foot on it's throat. But the people with cruise ship tunnel vision that think this is anti-cruise...And the CDC isn't treating the cruise lines any different than every other business in the country is ridiculous. If anyone should be blamed it's the CDC.

FWIW... the overall Covid daily new case rate for the US was virtually identical on May 28, 2020 and May 28, 2021.  (I chose May 28 because it avoids Memorial Day reporting delays in both years).

The next two weeks are critical to see if the current downtrend in cases is "seasonality" driven or "immunity" driven.  By June 14, 2020, Arizona was visibly starting its summer surge with the rest of sunbelt following soon after.

So, once you step foot onto the ship, you'll be considered to be in international waters? Hasn't the big holdup been what goes on inside the terminal?

 

I wonder what would happen if the Seminole tribe had a cruise port - would Florida law apply there? I know it didn't with regard to our visit to the Hard Rock casino several years ago. One of the few places where smoking was still allowed in a restaurant!

We can revisit this again, soon enough. I am grateful someone is looking out for public health.  I hate to think of how many more deaths there could have been.
