LoungingMcCoy Posted July 10, 2021 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2021 Macorix rum from Puerto Plata in Dominican Republic. I didn't think I liked rum until I tried this. My dad, who doesn't drink, even liked it. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find it in my area of the U.S.

That piqued my interest so I went a searching and I came up with this. Justhavinfun is correct. Hennessy White is rarely found anywhere EXCEPT in France and the Caribbean: "Hennessy Pure White is a Cognac that's generally sold only in the Caribbean, and, of course, in Cognac, France. Many people get to taste it when on vacation–perhaps in Barbados or the Bahamas–and then try to buy it from their local liquor store on their return home. Many people wonder, due to the difficulty of getting hold of a bottle, we often get contacted by fans who say: White Hennessy is really hard to find near me, and where can I buy it? Unfortunately, we do not sell this item. " https://www.cognac-expert.com/vs-cognac/hennessy-vs-cognac-pure-white I thought that very interesting, and I learned something! I'm gonna have to try me out some of that stuff!
DenaInWyo Posted July 10, 2021 #6 Share Posted July 10, 2021 Big Black Dick's rum in Grand Cayman is tasty! I always get several bottles when we go there. Managed to get 6 home last time, with no casualties! Several flavors, coconut is my favorite. Definitely a conversation starter on your bar shelf. And do be careful how you word your search should you try to Google it 😉 2
jimbri Posted July 10, 2021 #7 Share Posted July 10, 2021 We tried Bambarra Rum at Jack's shack in Grand Turk. My husband really liked it and I told him we could probably buy some on the ship or at home. Well, it's only sold in Grand Turk so on our next trip we bought a couple of bottles. Rare Honolulu Blue Posted July 10, 2021 #10 Share Posted July 10, 2021 Not liquor, but many caribbean islands have beers made locally that are only offered on that island. Does Carnival’s policy for bringing bottles back on board from ports include 6-packs of beer? Are bottles and cans both allowed? I understand alcohol purchases must be checked in. I have no experience with this, but after a scan through Carnival's alcohol policy online at https://www.carnival.com/help?topicid=2633 , I don't think any beer is allowed to be brought on board from ports. But I'm happy to defer to someone with experience.

Joebucks Posted July 10, 2021 #16 Share Posted July 10, 2021 I almost always buy the local beers in the Caribbean. There's no need to smuggle it at home if you drink it all at the port!
Rare Hlitner Posted July 10, 2021 #17 Share Posted July 10, 2021 Glenfiddich Select Cask Single Malt (Scotch) is only found in certain Duty Free shops (primarily in airports). As a Scotch drinker I also enjoy visiting Gulmahar's Liquor Store (right on the main street in Philipsburg, St Maarten where the owner has one of the best collections of Scotch in the hemisphere. They have actually try to have every scotch that is currently made and come very close. Every time I go in that store I walk out with a bottle of Scotch that I cannot find in the USA. olemissreb Posted July 10, 2021 #20 Share Posted July 10, 2021 I can't remember which island I bought it, but there is (was) a chocolate mint liqueur called Cool Brazil. I haven't been able to find it in years. It was great in coffee or hot chocolate.
zekekelso Posted July 10, 2021 #21 Share Posted July 10, 2021 This is mostly for Jamaica, but probably for most isles: Once you get off the tourist track, many bars will have a local overproof rum. Not usually sold by the bottle and you probably couldn’t bring it on the ship even if it were. And to be honest, not anything a booze snob would enjoy. But having a shot or two in the bar is an experience not to be missed.
