Thinking about a a TA passage cruise.

The prices for the 14 day London to Ft Lauderdale in November. 

Never have done one of these before, The prices are amazing with casino credit.

 

What are your experience with these?

What is the weather like?

Any advice would be apricated.

TAs are wonderful ,especially Nov/Dec. It's fun to watch the crews' uniforms gradually shift from winter to summer .

They are my favorite just because of the amount of sea days. It allows you to really utilize and enjoy the ship.

i have only sailed the opposite direction so I can’t speak to the weather.

Have done it in April twice and once in October.  April smooth as glass. October a bit rocky.  I should note that the crossings we did were southern…Florida across to Madeira in spring and reverse in Oct.

 

Both very enjoyable.  Lets you truly relax and get into the cruise vibe and prices are usually great.

We are on this cruise. I think it will be our 10th or 11th TA. I don’t know. Generally more older people than the shorter Caribbean cruises. Fairly active Roll Csll. Weather can be just about anything. Smooth as glass or walking the bulkheads.

The wife and I have done several TA's crossing. Love the Sea days and the relaxation onboard. On this coming Friday July 16th Princess will be releasing it's 2023 Europe schedule. I have looked at the Excel sheet that someone had posted about the release and the November 10, 2023 sailing on the Sky caught my interest. It is called the Tropical Passage 15 days London to Ft. Lauderdale. What caught my eye (besides pricing) was that Princess changed the itinerary to include several Caribbean ports before it disembarks Ft. Lauderdale. If my information is right my TA will book on Friday. Took advantage of the gift card promo to cover the necessary deposit. Since we are a long time off I hope to take advantage of a similar gift card promos over time.

We love these cruises and always sail East to West.  This way we can adjust to the time change as we sail towards the US.  As previously stated, you can run into some bad weather.  We have had some TA's that the weather was perfect!

We have done London to Ft Lauderdale.  Chose this direction for the 25-hour days rather than 23- hour days going West to East.

Our cruise was in September 2019 and we did miss the Azores because of a hurricane.

Good thing we don’t mind a rocky ride!  That hurricane was very unusual for the area.

This was the second cruise of a B2B - did a 12- day British Isles before the TA.

What a fabulous trip!

I'm on the Enchanted 9/2/22 TA. So I'm booking a private shore excursion but will pay driver. I've only been in 2 hurricanes (1 called a typhoon but its basically the same). Yeah, captain can skip that port in that case

I’ve done at least half a dozen transatlantic‘s in the fall and on three of them changes were made in the itinerary during the cruise due to storms in the Atlantic. If you would be crushed at missing one of the scheduled ports they’re not for you, but if you like a sense of adventure and don’t mind missing a port they’re great cruises.

We did this a few years ago.  We had a port side balcony cabin.  There were one or two afternoons where we could not sit out very long.. it was.too hot.

 

Sea was like glass.   The ship was wonderful.  Great food, great service...the lot.

 

BUT...by the end of the third day at sea we were ready to jump.   Far too many sea days for us so we will not be doing it again.

We have done 9 TAs with number 10 coming up next March. We'd much rather cruise than fly long distances 😉. We have cruised in both directions since most West to East are in the Spring and East to West in the Fall. However, our last two crossings were in July and August of 2019 going both directions with Cunard. We've also done 2 transpacifics--should have been 3 but Covid cancelled the last scheduled one. It depends on your own expectations whether you will enjoy the many sea days. We like the varied activities on the ship as well as plenty of time to just relax and read a book. You also have more time to get to know your shipmates. At any time of the year the weather can be unpredictable. Most of our crossings have been very smooth and none with any prolonged rough weather. Leaving London in November you should expect some pretty cool days at least in the first few days of the cruise. Take the chance on a new experience and see how you like it!

It can be smooth or rocky in April.

 

We were on one TA in April that was smooth as glass. Had to look outside at the ocean to see if we were moving at all.

 

But the Captain said there was another Princess ship two days ahead of us on the same route and it had stormy weather for most of the trip.

We sleep like babies in the bad weather.  Just love being rocked to sleep.

Agree, book a B2B segment or two before hand. The choices are always good.

We have only done 1 TA, but loved it.  We did a riverboat cruise first, then 15 days touring Europe and took the cruise back home from Barcelona.  A fabulous trip. 

 

We were booked on something similar for 2020, but covid made us cancel. 

 

We are now booked on the Sky for 10/30/2022 (I think that is the correct date) out of London.  We are doing the Bucharest to Budapest riverboat first, then 14 days touring and finally London to Ft. Lauderdale. We are really looking forward to it.  There are 6 of us going that have traveled together extensively.

 

What a way to see the world.

As others have said, weather is unpredictable.  I've got TA cruises scheduled, really like them, sea days are great.  I've crossed both directions with the ss Norway, those were my best transatlantic cruises.   I like flying overseas and cruising back best but my Regal cruise to Copenhagen wasn't bad.  I think I've done six (maybe 5).  

 

I've crossed both directions, northern route, southern route, some good weather, others not so much.  No guarantees the southern cruise will be smoother, I've had rough seas both routes.

I have done two (both in the fall) and I loved every minute of it.  Out on the water, the air is chilly, but you can always stay inside and look out the windows!

I did my TA cruise on RCL. I wanted more activities and shows since it is mostly sea days. There are few children on a TA so that wasn't an issue. Princess is pretty sedate which works for me most of the time but not always. I love the Promenade deck on RCL which has included Seattles coffee at their cafe. RCL has neat parades and ice shows and is a more lively crowd. That's my experience YMMV.

We did the TA from London to Ft Lauderdale in September  2019,  The itinerary  was great and the sea days were very relaxing.

Agree with everything above.  The weather can be great, or not.  Our last TA was rainy and cold.  My husband loves TA and I don't like them at all.  You really need to enjoy shipboard activities as there are many sea days.  I did attend enrichment seminars, some demonstrations but trivia, bingo, games don't interest me and there a lot of those type of activities.  So if you like those type of things,  you should find plenty to do.

 

I also enjoy reading, but can read at home quite easily. 

 

If you enjoy ports and off ship activities, such as myself, the TA might not be the best choice.
