The talk of dentists brings me to my own bit of drama.  Late last week a tooth started hurting a bit.  Normally this would be a routine matter to take care of but the valve repair makes it more complicated.  I was warned to avoid dental procedures for 3 months after the surgery and then take an antibiotic before visiting the dentist.  I got the feeling that it was not wise to wait.  The ideal would be to get an antibiotic from my cardiologist but response from her office has been very poor.  I did call my primary doctor Friday and got an antibiotic from him, and saw the Dentist Monday.  By that time the antibiotic had minimized the pain and he did not find a cavity and thought the offending tooth likely needs either a root canal or extraction.  I see the endodontist Monday (conflicting with my rehab time) for an opinion on whether it should be root canal or extraction and if it needs to happen now or can safely be deferred for another month.

I have another followup with my primary Thursday for any additional antibiotics I may need and hopefully a referral to a new cardiologist.

Roy, sorry you're having dental problems on top of everything else.  I'm glad you saw the dentist and will see a specialist.  There is a relation between poor dental health (I doubt in your case) and heart disease, so I'm very glad you are following your instincts.  Its always better safe than sorry.

Good afternoon!

My closet doors are all scrubbed, painted and reinstalled with new hardware.  The painting part is the easiest part of the job.   Carrying them out and getting them back in place is a major pain.  What a job, but they look so much better without rust spots and paint drips all over them.   And, I do like the new pulls on them.

@JazzyVWow!  It sounds like you have had more than a full day today.   I have time like that next week when Dan the Handyman comes back.  He has to fix the leak under the sink, which entails turning off water, removing the pipes and reinstalling them.  Then, he is going to replace the flooring of the lower kitchen cabinets as it is all warped and things all slide to the middle.  And, he's going to hook up the ice maker in the new fridge.  That will take some plumbing as he has to run a line.  And, last but not least, install a new sump pump.  Maybe I should just fix up the spare room for him.

@mamaofamiI can totally understand how overwhelming Sam's condition must be.  And, you are right, the hardest part is seeing him go from a healthy, vibrant person to one in a wheelchair.  But, this need only be temporary.   It won't change overnight, but you will see him getting better.  In any case, always remember you have a "family" here that you can turn to for understanding and support.  We care about what is happening with  you and Sam.

Ok, time to kick back and enjoy that nice cold glass of lemon water.

You are way more motivated than me.  All somebody has to do is say the word "paint" and I subtly back out of the room.

I'm sorry you're experiencing that and can completely relate to the primary-cardiologist-neuro-vascular shuffle!  Sometimes you can get away with having something called in, other times they want to see you...ugh.  ~praying

I've been to Nuku Hiva twice, 2018 on the Crystal Symphony and 2020 on Crystal Serenity.  As others have suggested there's only one real tour, and my photos of that would be  just like everyone else's.  What is different for me is that my 2018 call was overnight (I just walked around town a bit the second day and again in 2020).  It was quite clear that there does not appear to be a lot of night life in Nuku Hiva.

Oh dear, Roy.

What a conundrum.  I used to have to take special antibiotics for my hear murmur and now it’s been discounted.  I would put the tooth first over rehab and talk to your FP and dentist as you are doing.

You can’t play around with this stuff and I’m sure there’s a way to deal with this safely or, at least, I hope so.

Definitely, the rehab is the bottom of my list.  There are likely 3 possibiities:

1. Switch to an earlier rehab session

2. Leave in the middle of my session

3. Skip the session and they will add another one on at the end.  That would likely mean just missing the session since I doubt if I'll hang around to the end anyway.

I should know which it it will be tomorrow.

Good luck.  Your rehab should be flexible and if they can’t / won’t be I know where my priorities would be. 😉

Well, I waited for someone else to paint them, but no one stopped by and made the offer.  I really didn't  have any choice but to do them.   Now, I get to paint the kitchen, living room and TV room.   Where to start?

They should work with you.

Right after I broke my hip and had that surgery, I broke a tooth.  You can't let those things go too long because they can end up infected and that is dangerous.  They also had recommended no dental work for 3-4 months after my hip surgery, but I had that taken care of right away.   I asked the dentist about the antibiotics and he said they don't do that anymore.  I guess it depends on the surgeon.  Some do, some don't.   With my knees, I received a letter from the Cleveland Clinic saying they recommended antibiotics for life, but at least two years.

Wow!  Are you serious?  You are doing all that yourself?  OMG. 😱

I think that’s why God created painters.  I’ll work like a demon in the garden, lug planters, lug compost but I can’t paint worth a ****** (my asterisks).  don’t wear yourself out please.

I’ve decided that there are certain things I can do and those I can hire others to do 😉. I guess I am lazy 😉

That's not lazy, just understanding limitations.

I enjoy painting, probably the way you enjoy gardening.  Each room will take me several days.  One day for the ceiling, one day for the trim, and one day for the walls.  And, I don't have a timeline for the paint jobs.

Last winter I did my bedroom, which is what prompted doing the closet doors.  I had some drywall repair work done and that necessitated painting.  I had a real sense of accomplishment when I finished.

I am in awe of you.  I tried once and it was a bust.

I’ll stick to gardening 😉

Roy, since Allen's valve replacement he has to take antibiotics even when having his teeth cleaned. Get used to it.

Debbie, I'm with you.  I'd rather paint than work in the garden.  I've painted most of the houses we've lived in, but I probably won't paint this one.  That's mainly because of the ceiling which goes from nine feet to 17 feet, and I'm not a fan of heights especially on ladders.

I'm resigned to that (it should be a small thing) but hadn't planned on having to scramble to get the drug to make it happen.

Our practice here is that the Dentists tend to let the Doctors set the pattern with the first prescription.

Where to start? Anywhere but the kitchen unless you're prepared to get takeout for a few days 🙂
