TardisDance Posted August 6, 2021 #26 Share Posted August 6, 2021 No, but my anniversary is 9/12, so 9/11 is sort of difficult to avoid. I am on the 9/11 Encore sailing. There is an active roll call on a very popular social media platform, by the way.
Trimone Posted August 6, 2021 #27 Share Posted August 6, 2021 Just realised it’s the 20 year anniversary, a day I will never forget it changed the world forever…🥲
pghflyer Posted August 6, 2021 #28 Share Posted August 6, 2021 Definitely not, celebrating our lives and continuing as normal is the best way to demonstrate that the sacrifices made by the brave did not deter us and only bolstered our resiliency
oteixeira Posted August 6, 2021 #29 Share Posted August 6, 2021 I sailed on 10/11/2001, and I assure you that was much more iffy then sailing on the anniversary of 9/11/2001 any future year.
casofilia Posted August 6, 2021 #30 Share Posted August 6, 2021 Not at all. It is just a day like any other day. "S... Happens" when it happens not because it is an anniversary day.

The point being they were both disastrous days that greatly affected the United States and many other countries, neither of which need cause people alarm when traveling on those specific dates.
RumRunner2021 Posted August 6, 2021 #34 Share Posted August 6, 2021 I only travel on those dates where history records nothing bad ever happened.
Rare Oceansaway17 Posted August 6, 2021 #35 Share Posted August 6, 2021 Always have and always will avoid flying on 9/11. I watched the planes go into towers live and it was frightening and scary.
Rare mking8288 Posted August 6, 2021 #36 Share Posted August 6, 2021 Don't know about OP's rationale; but, DW and I would NOT avoid Sept 11th if our future travel plans happened to call for doing so. We lost friends on that sad day, which I called out as we're driving into (still) Lower East Side of Manhattan while listening to the radio ... believed initially to be a small plane that hit the North Tower. Until, just a little after 9 am when I called that our Pearl Harbor II as it was quite obviously that it wasn't accidental. We managed to get off the island later, got onto the subway and made our way home indirectly - by then, the wind had carried some of the smoke & burning odor some 15 miles NW toward our direction. We sailed one year out of NYC on Sept 11th and there was a special memorial onboard our ship (NCL) but that wasn't the one where USCG uniformed personnel with sidearms boarded and escorted the cruise ship until we're passed the VZ Bridge ... and a fast patrol boat were behind us, visually armed with .50 cal on the bow. This year marked the 20th anniversary of that terror attack against ... There were / are - other sad and just as tragic events, natural and otherwise, that resulted in huge lost of lives, at home and abroad. To each her/his own, on how one wish to memorize and remember it ... there is no "wrong" answer nor "right" or "correct" ones.
Snowrose Posted August 6, 2021 #37 Share Posted August 6, 2021 I think any people connected to 9/11 will be plenty busy trying to survive covid, right now.
tony s Posted August 7, 2021 #38 Share Posted August 7, 2021 Not true. I was a 911 first responder in NYC and I will be on the 9/12 Jade cruise out of Athens. No better tribute than living life.

Any other ideas why the 9/11 sailing wouldn't be booking up like sailings before and after? The 9/4 is a has a USholiday but the 9/18 doesn't. And obviously it won't be empty if I'm on it. 😛 Just received another one of those Important Information for ENCORE, 11-SEP-2021 emails but it was just another about entertainment being cancelled. There will, however, be plenty of seating available on your cruise. That email went out to everyone sailing through November. It was not specific to your cruise. NCL is going to see how things go with the first cruises and re-installing the shows.

SomewhereGirl Posted August 7, 2021 Author #46 Share Posted August 7, 2021 I see the question has really touched a nerve. I was simply wondering why the 9/11 Encore sailing might appear to not be selling as well as the 9/4 and 9/18, with the amount of cabins still unassigned and no real price drops, and the date stood out. I will be flying and sailing that day so obviously I'm not avoiding it either. It might feel weird on my AA flight that morning. I'm sure it will be on the minds of the flight crew. I don't think it touched a nerve, it just seems people think it's a silly question. It was two full decades ago. People have long since moved on from that day.
