Here - local health departments & selected pharmacies are doing 3d boosters for Pfizer & 2d for J&J provided you had your last shot 28 days ago.  DH and I got our 3d last week (no questions asked other than general health) and several of our young (in their 40s) employees got their 3d today - again, no questions asked (I know because I drove them to their appointments today).  

 

I guess it depends upon where you are located....if anyone in the Hampton Roads area needs a location for the 3d shot - let me know & I'll give you the location.

Our CVS pharm are turning away people. Seems they rather toss unused doses in the bin than stick people. 

The "correct" answer is that all the pharmacies have that check box asking if you are immunocompromised....if you check that box, they will give you the shot.....whether you truly are or not. They will not (and cannot) ask you for proof. It is up to your conscious to lie or not.

 

I've posted the rules from the CDC website and posted the most recent ruling from the FDA. They are the current "rules", if you choose to get the booster shot ahead of time, that's your choice, but the CDC and FDA do NOT....repeat NOT.......recommend you getting it earlier than 8 months after your second shot. (See post #10) If you "heard" otherwise, please site your reference.....not "the news", not a friend said, not Facebook, etc. Being 65+ doesn't qualify as immunocompromised, nor does diabetes, high blood pressure or halitosis.

 

I am not sure why everyone is clamoring to get the booster when you are currently protected. You don't have to have the booster to cruise. I'm not understanding.....what is the hurry?

I really hope you misspoke about the J&J shot. J&J "has submitted the data from the trials to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which has not yet made a recommendation on booster shots for J&J vaccine recipients."

 

I'm not sure how these places are giving a shot which is not FDA approved.....or even approved on an emergency basis.

 

it appears that they care more about the revenue they get from administering the shot and less about your health.

I'm not sure how you have been reading, but I don't need to "tone down". I am not angry, nor do I wish to push any agenda. I am trying to provide facts so that people can be better informed. I have no other "mission".

 

You posted a link to an article, which I took to be your source.......not that you personally wrote the article. If you took it that way, I am sorry.

That is where I got my 3rd Moderna vaccine.  Signed up online and your could pick Moderna or Pfizer and which number shot you needed 1st, 2nd or 3rd.  Super easy.  Had a sore arm and felt a little warm the first night.

The reason for the appointments is to prepare how many doses they will need for that day. They are not just tossing them in the bin willy nilly. If someone doesn't show up for their appointment they will call in a patient who showed up during the day without an appointment  who was put on a waiting list.

Walgreens, at least in my state, is only doing boosters by walk in.  You can't sign up for it online so there is no "box" to check. Just bring your CDC card and they fill out the 3rd shot.

 

I am not 65 however my cardiologist told me to get it right away.  Technically, I don't qualify, but went and got it under doctor's recommendations.  I walked into Walgreens, handed over my CDC card, and 5 minutes later they were putting a needle in my arm.  No questions asked. And they did have my age as they did log me into my account to document the vaccination.

 

There are over a million people to date that have received the booster and are not immune compromised nor 65 and over.

Interesting considering I tried to get a pneumonia shot last year and had to answer specific questions about whether I was diabetic or asthmatic since I was under 65.  I'm neither so didn't get the shot.  I don't see what the difference would be if they ask what you have considering they are pharmacists who are medical professionals and are required by law to not share your info with anyone else.  Proof unless that's your pharmacy is hard to provide anyway.  If it's your normal pharmacy, they see your prescription history and would know if there's something you're taking that would indicate immunity issues.

I was told that "we are not the Covid police", that if someone says "I am immunocompromised", we can't ask for proof and we are not to turn them away (even if their history shows that they definitely are NOT immunocompromised). People will fuss with you about it, say the doctor said they should have it, say "well this morning on the news", ask why another place gave it to a neighbor, and so on. I've tried reasoning with people - informing them of the current "facts", but just as folk on this site......people believe what they want and will do accordingly.

 

I'm just tired of fighting with people. 🙁😩😢

My DIL got hers from her rheumatologist who knows she is immunocompromised and what meds she is on.  Not all Dr's have the vaccine, but some specialists do.  Will I get it when eligible?  Yes, but by nature I'm very honest and a rule follower so no shot for me right now as I don't qualify and have issues with lying about anything.  What you're seeing is very self serving behavior. Problem is we have it on both extremes, those that will lie to get the shot and those that won't ever get it.  

 

What really gets me is the number of truly immunocompromised people is so much lower than those that claim it.  Those that are currently fully vaccinated shouldn't be panicking.

I appreciate the information on this thread. I am following the issue on multiple fronts and am currently of the idea that I should continue to wait it out. I had Moderna ... the second shot was early April. Since I sail in early December, I may contact my doctor's office for a recommendation in mid November if there isn't definitive direction from either the cruise line or the CDC by that time.

FYI - CVS will not give over 65 as of this AM. Tried this AM with reservation made yesterday. CVS had not been given authority to give shot to over 65.

Went to Wal- Mart without reservation and got it right away. 

STAY SAFE!
