That is the height of the carryon, the OP is taking about width. The 22" carryons are only about 14" wide. To the OP, I have been able to fit a 30" suitcase that is 19" wide with no issues. Otherwise you will you will struggle at security, you will struggle getting a big bag up the gangway, you will be dragging the bag through the dining room.
