Honestly I didn’t know 2 top in MTD was a thing …and we are interested ! Do we just ask for one ?

yeah, we always ask for a 2 tops, have been doing it pretty much since MTD started.  We talk to so many people during the day on a cruise, it is nice to have dinner alone and not have to wait for anyone.  We can eat and get out of there and go to the show or whatever we want.

One reason we book a suite- much better seating options, especially now, since Royal doesn't mandate immunizations yet.  Also, dining in specialty restaurants typically much roomier.

We sail in January and hope that a higher percentage of people will be immunized by then.

When we were on Freedom and Adventure, on our pool days, the pool was PACKED and no one said a word.  We had a blast, it was so fun to see the pool area hopping. But everyone was vaccinated except  few kids.

Were the protocols as 100% vaxxed.  I felt sorry for the lifeguards as they were getting the barbs and complaints.

possibly, but never saw anyone that did not have the bracelet on, but then was not looking that close either.

The sail on Oasis out of Bayonne was 100% vaxxed, xcpt for the kids.  I was stopped 3 times one night going to/fro the casino as it was formal night and my long sleeve shirt was hiding the green bracelet.  Had to show it the individuals that stood by the entrances.  Also, happened going to the Adult show on the second formal night.  In essence if they did not see the bracelet you were questioned.  Asked why since the ship is 100% vaxxed and children are not allowed in these venues.

For the last several years we have been requesting a table for 2 in TD (tried MTD several years but decided to go back to TD).  Many times our table for 2 was a few feet (sometimes 1 foot) from our neighbor.  We have in the past engaged in conversation with our neighbor just like the old days of 6 or 8 tops.  We are sailing in a few weeks and hope that the tables are a little more apart even though all in the MDR will have been vaccinated.  We shall find out.

Due to health concerns, when (if) we cruise on Anthem in March, we will not choose to sit with others as we have usually done. Has Royal changed its allocation of small tables because of Covid?

Just cruised on the Oasis. You show your vaccination card, EVERYONE has to be tested no earlier than 2 days before departure and you get and must where a proof bracelet.  Un- vacced people ( and there were hardly any) eat  in their own dining room.  Staff are tested weekly and were only aloud off ship in Coco Cay. So, if you don't feel safe the ship you can't feel safe anywhere.

this is interesting. im booked on oasis, wondering if i should take off the bracelet and sit in the empty unvax DR?  im doing my time and i wouldn like to be seated 1 ft from my neighbor. if i wanted that id be seated at the suite restaurants on celebrity 🙂 or club suite dining on princess. that type of seating really irritates me and really, who wants my butt going across their table as i shimmy between tables to get to the back.. if i wanted to sit with others, id get a 'normal' MDR table.

Pools were restricted to 12 at any one time on our recent Harmony cruise. Numbers were strictly enforced too, I was asked to get out as I had miscounted and I was the 13th 🙈😁

So, you, who had just gotten in was asked to leave, but, people who had been in for an hour were allowed to stay?

When we were on Adventure and Freedom, not every table was used so they were making sure people were not that close to each other.  I don't think we ever had anyone sit at a table next to us, there was always a table in between.  We also would talk to neighbors in MTD before.  But we love MTD and will never go back to regular.

Yep. I think the attendant saw me counting heads then getting in. He was straight over to me, apologised but said I’d have to get back out again as  there was now too many in. It was a bit embarrassing tbh lol.

I'm just shocked other people saw that and didn't get out so you could cool off.  Now, instead of chair hogs, we have pool hogs.

It wasn’t too bad the first half of the cruise, however, when more pax boarded in Civitavecchia there was a large group who all knew each other and commandeered one of the pools for long periods each day. As there are three pools on Oasis class ships, we just used another one.

We sat at a table in a more active part of the dining room...on purpose. We actually could and did speak on occasion to the people next to us. We didn't become BFFs just a few pleasantries.  I usually chose the side of the table that required me to pass between the space separating our tables. I didn't need to present my butt to either table. There was space for me to pass between facing forward.  We want that table and enjoyed. There are many tables you can be seated at that will separate further if you wish.  Since the ship is not even half full I'm sure they can meet your table requirements.  True.. also I'm sure there was plenty of space in the un vacced dining on other floor.

On Oasis the lifeguards asked those in pools for a period of time to exit and give others the opportunity.  on Sept. 5, the limit was 9 and don't know if that hs changed.  No limit to the Solarium pool.

On the Sept, 5 sail, MTD was on the 3rd deck and that deck was reserved for vaxxed only.  Specialty restaurants were for everyone and followed social distancing protocols, except for the al fresco dining.

I was on Ovation last month. I kept getting seated at 2-seat tables next to each other, which made me feel unsafe and uncomfortable, I went to a different dining room and asked for a physically distanced table, and when I found one and servers I liked, I booked it for the rest of the cruise for dinner. For breakfast and lunch, I found the easiest way to ensure distance and privacy was to go the Everyone dining room on deck 3, which had tables blocked off and very few people, so I great service and a table next to the window with nice sea views. So, the lesson is just to ask and then ask to change if you're not satisfied. If you have set dining, I'd go in on the first day and ask to see your table and then ask for something different if it's not acceptable.

I saw a Vloger from Ovation a week ago or so ago. They were both fully Vaxed and were assigned to American Icon Grill.  All two tops were packed side by side. They noticed by the third night there was more and more space. Turns out they were told by their waiter that many Vaxed were opting to move to unvaxed and eating in the Grande. Unvaxed are spaced out Vaxed are bunched together.   They also said many Vaxed were sitting with the unvaxed in the show room as there was much more room.

I like MTD with a 2top . I dont mind chit chatting with the people next to me a foot away , lol .

What is appealing to me is i dont have to wait for others to get their food before i start eating.

I wont be cruising until next september , and i think this covid thing will be gone by then.

I have a suite booked so costal kitchen is available to us , and i may not be using the main dining room .

I am double vaxxed now and if i need a booster i will get that too.
