Most of the points websites (TPG, etc) value MR points at $.02 each so it’s really not a bad offer at all.

no, not my free Amex Everyday card.

here's the calculator for it:

https://global.americanexpress.com/rewards/calculator

10k points = $60 statement credit. (60% 😞 )

70% if i use it to pay for most gift cards or use points for most stores that accept Amex points instead of cash/credit card.

hm.. home depot gift card is $100 for 10k points. (100%)

You need to transfer the MR points to other loyalty programs to see their maximum value.

This is a case study in how to minimize the value of Amex Membership Rewards points. Don't ever use these points in the manner described above. Every time I've redeemed points, it's been for AT LEAST 1.5 cents per point. Most often this has been with transfers to Delta, British Airways, or Air France.

If you want to simply cash them out, get a Charles Schwab Amex Platinum and deposit your points into Schwab for 1.1 cents per point. Still better than the redemption methods described in the quoted post.

Interesting reading through the variations on the offer. I have a platinum AmEx card and received the cruise line offers for

  • Celebrity (spend $500, get $150 back)
  • Royal Caribbean (spend $500, get $200 back)
  • Silversea (additional 5 membership rewards points per dollar spent)

Did not get the one for Oceania someone mentioned above. Since we actually have a booking on them with final payment due before the offer expires, maybe they didn't see the need to offer us an incentive to spend more. Of the three (well, four counting Oceania), the only one we have previously sailed with is Celebrity.

I have a Delta Reserve AMEX.  I got no offer for Celebrity.

It doesn't show up on mine either (I also have a Delta Reserve AMEX.)

Co-branded cards (i.e. Delta AMEX cards) never will receive these travel type offers.

@RichYak- Is the only way to buy the OBC through buying casino chips?

Nope. You can simply purchase $500 worth of OBC using the Amex card with the offer. You don't even need to spend any of the OBC while on board. Just cash out on the last day of your cruise.

Wow, interesting that you got a Carnival, Princess, HAL, Seabourn, Cunard offer...wish I'd gotten that one as well.

Also worth a mention is $125 off $300 on Delta Airlines...along with numerous hotel offers.

Seems someone definitely wants us to travel.😉

I just checked mine and I had a different offer (Green Card). Spend $500, get 15,000 Membership Rewards points.

i got the 15k membership points offer as well.

unfortunately, i dont fly much.

and if i fly for a cruise, i'd book with Celebrity as they are usually cheaper than published fares.

plus i doubt that 15k points will get me a free ticket.

unless i can use that 15k (at 1.5cents per point) as partial payment?

That's odd. I found it available under my Platinum card as well as the authorized user card

Me too. I found it and just added it. Now I'll wait a couple of days and then plop down an additional $500 on my current reservation.

It's annoying that it is not available for the platinum card.  I think this happened once before.  Guess I need to get an ordinary blue card.  Is there a fee for those?

My husband and I received it on our Platinum card.  I got spend $500 get 15,000 points and my husband got spend $500 get $150 back.

How do you cash it out? It says 5% fee to use it in the casino.

For American Express card holders!!

…the following appeared this morning on my Blue card account under Offers & Benefits:

(Also note the same was not offered on my Platinum card)

Thank you for sharing. I've been adding offers everyday trying to get the RC offer to pop up when a new one appeared.  So far no luck.  I feel a bit better that I got something.
