Mystery medallion? What does a white medallion indicate?

Just an FYI. I’ve had 3 medallions for 3 cruises issued to me since my July 25th sailing this year. I always get custom artwork on the front. I noticed I wasn’t getting my 10% discount in the stores. When I asked about it the sales person (this was on the Grand in Oct) said she couldn’t see my status on her screen. I had to take off my bracelet and show her the back of my medallion that was black to get the discount.

That's downtown ridiculous. I thought when they "scanned" your medallion for a purchase, your status would show up.  They really do need to make the medallion and its app work a lot better than it currently does.

I have friends currently on the Enchanted Princess and they said it's white because it represents the Inaugural cruises.  They did not have the official naming ceremony as yet. We received our white

medallions yesterday.

Would be a keepsake then.

My "favorite" people watching thing is to smile at folks that carefully wear their medallions so the world can see the color!

I have both Platinum and Black medallions at home and the color is on both sides, so it doesn't matter which way it is facing.

I’m a little confused…. Isn’t the whole reason for using the medallion is so you can keep it in your pocket or hung around your neck under a shirt and the signal will automatically show up on the computer screen without fumbling to get it out?

if so, why would the color matter?

For some things they can read your medallion as you approach but with others you had to tap the medallion on a reader. Mostly during embarkation and disembarkation but also for the muster station check in. So having it under a shirt or in a pocket would be a little inconvenient for those times. I got a clip and a bracelet to use mine with and that was nice as I could just tap my wrist on the reader and not have to fumble with the lanyard.

Mine is customized with a design.I do not see how one can tell for certain about  any status when looking at a customized medallion?? Seems they would need to be scanned....

I didn't even think about the implications of the custom medallions. How silly that they can't tell without looking at the medallion. I swear on one of the Medallion Class Mondays videos they put out earlier this year one of them mentioned how the crew would be able to easily tell your loyalty status when you approach because the medallion transmits your info to whatever devices the crew use.
I was worried about this as I recently qualified for Platinum status after we had already booked this cruise and I had to email my Princess Vacation Planner to have him update my details so I showed as Platinum on the app and on my travel summary but they still sent me a Ruby level medallion. At least now I know I can get a sticker once on board. But they had better let me in the priority boarding group that I qualify for. I will raise a stink if they don't (in a nice way - it's certainly not the fault of the hard-working crew at the pier or onboard that this system is still fraught with issues).

Good luck if you are going out of San Pedro.  I was sent a blue medallion for my first medallion cruise.  I was told by OCEAN Navigator not to worry about the color.  I "argued" politely with the lady handing out the priority boarding passes for the lounges.  She would not give me a pass.  Gave my cabin mate one for Platinum.  So I just walked into the Elite/Suite lounge.  Shortly after that, I was greeted by a guy in a black tux.  He was there to escort me on board (suite/sweet).  He found us with his ipad.

On board, I made one purchase.  Register could not bringup my Elite status for the 10%.  She had to manually write a ticket.  So much for technology.

Pier 27 in San Francisco thank goodness. Sailed out of San Pedro last month on the Majestic though. It was the first cruise out of that terminal since the shutdown and it was so disorganized and the ladies handing out passes were not very accommodating or interested in hearing what people were trying to explain.

Just off of the Majestic...everyone who scanned our medallions could see that we were platinum, even though our medallions were blue. They could also see you interests (if you entered them in the app), and there was also a place for employees to add notes about you. (nice, grumpy, good tipper, etc)

Well my husband got this by default. Unfortunately for me I customized mine, and I really like his!  We will be on the Enchanted and its been reported by a cruiser currently on board that this design is being used for the inaugural season. It also didnt come in a plastic card case as

often shown (including posts above) but in a little clear round holder attached to the lanyard that the medallion pops into. Maybe a new lanyard design? This is our first medallion cruise so I have no personal reference point.

Maybe we will receive that for our Discovery Princess cruise in 2022?  I hope so.

It would be nice. Never been on one, but I am hesitant about inaugural cruises. I'd rather have the bugs worked out of a new ship first.

Mine is the black color and the sales person told me she doesn’t know anything about colors and discounts.  I had to tell her.. wow.

I had placed an order customizing my medallion but after reading your post again I decided to cancel my order.  I really would like to have a medallion like the one that you described.

We sail on Enchanted in September 2022. Will it still be her inaugural season — how long is an inaugural season? The white and gold medallion sounds nice.

Good question.

I was under the impression that the decorative centers were going to be magnetic. Which would mean they could be removed so it would expose the regular center. The one I was going to preorder was the Army one under the Military, First responder ones. But it is no longer there, so I thought I'd be able to buy it on the ship and just add it on.

Wouldn't the inaugural season be the first year??

Somebody mentioned the issue of needing to "tap" a medallion on a reader (held by a crew member or sitting on a counter).  Why does this happen?  Consider that when you are sitting at a crowded venue (such as a bar) the bar tender can look on their monitor and sometimes see more than 50 different faces (they can scroll through multiple screens).  With the "physical tapping process" the staff has to work through lots of pictures to determine who is who and this can take time.  On our Medallion cruises (we have been on 4) it is also not uncommon to be asked for your name or cabin number (either can be used by the staff to determine who is who).   On our recent Enchanted Princess cruise one of our favorite bar waiters in Crooners did not want to deal with the Medallion because it just took too much time, so he would routinely ask for a passenger's cabin number which he quickly jotted down on a note pad.  He then entered all the info when he was back at the bar ordering station.  While this kind of defeats the purpose of the Medallions, for this terrific server it made things work at a much faster pace.  With the deck waiters we often saw a different technique where they quickly entered drink orders into their portable reader.  The idea was that by the time they got back to their serving station the drink orders would already be prepared and waiting so they did not waste a lot of time at the station.  Since our recent cruise was not overly busy (only 1800 passengers) it gave more time to chat with the staff and we learned that most develop their own style (vis-a-vis medallions).
