Journey2016 Posted December 13, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2021 We did a 7 day cruise out of Port Canaveral. We parked right next to the check in area, in an uncovered but gated parking lot. We paid on the way out, and the charge was by the day. My father in law did a cruise out of the same exact terminal two weeks later, and paid a flat fee in advance when entering the lot. He claims that this favors people who are doing a back to back, because you only pay the flat fee on the way in, so the second cruise is "free parking" because they have no idea that you are going to be parking for both cruises. Does anyone have any information on this?
gadaboutgal Posted December 13, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2021 (edited) If parking in Royal Caribbean's new terminal (Terminal #1) which has the multi level building adjacent to the terminal building, you pay at the top of the parking ramp as you enter the second level. From that parking garage you have covered access directly into the check-in terminal. Parking at Royal's old terminal, which it sounds like you did, is a bit of a walk to the terminal building. One takes a ticket entering the parking area and pays when leaving the lot. Edited December 13, 2021 by gadaboutgal clarification
molly361 Posted December 13, 2021 #3 Share Posted December 13, 2021 Yes if you park at the new terminal 1 covered parking you pay on your way in so if on a B2b you will only pay for the first week as the automated computer charges for the current cruise it has no one to know that you are staying longer

With three ships using Terminal 1 now, the parking garage is often full by the time you get there and the only place available to park is the surface lot adjacent to the garage. If that happens, you will pay for both weeks on a B2B. If you are fortunate enough to park in the garage, you only pay for one cruise.

We just completed a B2B on Harmony, garage was full when we arrived at 1130 for first leg so we had to park outside next to garage. We only paid for one week, same as if we had parkd in garage. Starry Eyes Posted December 13, 2021 #7 Share Posted December 13, 2021 We arrived at about 10:30 for a recent Harmony cruise. We got a spot on the top level of the garage (uncovered). The remaining slots were filling quickly. Some combination of more ships using the same terminal, fewer people wishing to share shuttles from outlying lots, more people driving to port vs flying, and numerous b2b guests is causing the T1 garage to fill. B2B would not cause a lot to be more filled. Doesn't matter if cabin (say) 6676 is filled by one person for three weeks or a different person each week. There are now 3 ships and in the past there were 2. Plus all three ships are increasing capacity and combined is likely higher than the original two ships. vandy Posted December 13, 2021 #12 Share Posted December 13, 2021 Are the porters out as early as 10:15 and where are they in relation to the covered garage?
Rare twangster Posted December 13, 2021 #13 Share Posted December 13, 2021 There are at least two surface lots near the terminal one garage. The lot close to the check in area was prepaid for me at Thanksgiving but it is relatively small. They had parking attendants standing there with handheld credit card devices as you enter. The paved overflow lot South of the garage has pay stations as you exit that lot. I could see them charging as you exit. When both of those are full they overflow to the grass area east of the terminal. Other terminals at Port Canaveral have you pay as you leave such as the NCL/MSC terminals on the other side. We chose to park at the port because waiting for a shuttle ruins the relaxed vibe that we have.

That is one of the standard reason to park at the terminal, yet pre-shutdown there were loads of parking spaces in the garage at the same time of day vs the current full/nearly full garage. Sometimes has changed.

They are comparing off site parking to terminal parking. Their off site lot charges $8 per night, so their 21 nights would be $168 and they have to use a shuttle both ways, Terminal garage at $17 x 8= $136 for entire stay-no shuttle needed. Odds are they will park in the garage if available. If the terminal garage charged the full amount for their stay ($17x22 =$374) far more would select off site parking.
