San Juan implemented new measures that said every person getting off a cruise ship must be tested in the previous 48 hours.  So many cruises are dropping that port right now.

I heard on the news that San Juan has lots of Covid cases.

The only reason the numbers are dropping is because the great Doug Ford has limited our access to testing.

Same here in La Belle Province - No PCR test unless you have symptoms. Not enough medical technician to carry out the testing and get results. We have rapid test and if you test positive but no symptom you are not required to pass the PCR but should self isolate for 5 days. I'm in the public transit sector and every day, for the last week, there is 6-8 new cases of operators testing positive. It does impact the service as you loose those employees for up to 10 days. I don't know how the cruise lines do it.

The CBC reported cases were skyrocketing.  Did something happen in the last week?

Canadian cases continue to climb rapidly. I know of no region in Canada where case numbers have dropped in the past week, let alone significantly.

The protocols on board with vaccination, masking, etc go a long way to balance out the issues with the ships themselves.

Yes, if the passengers comply and the crew enforces those protocols.  Some  passengers and crew will but many will not. Not sure what the R-naught value is for omicron within the mesosystem of the average cruise ship but it may not take all that many non-compilers to impact a cruise in one way or another.

Greatly appreciate your factual and informative posts.

FWIW I think operating the casino is a no win situation because on one hand the cruise line wants the revenue (it's a BIG money maker) but on the other hand it's a hotspot for possible Cov19 transmission.

It also puts the casino staff in an impossible situation. Considering how packed it was last week I'm surprised they haven't shut down the entire operation due to "close contacts" including all cashiers and the host.

And in connection to this I repeat what I said before, I think they're taking a half-hearted approach here. While requiring masks which is really just a CYA action for them the ships continue to operate events that include large social gathering. Today it's ABBA night at The Club, then there was a sign for silent disco, theater and last but not least we had New Years Eve.

Not sure what the end of the ballgame is for them but don't tell me for a second they're taking this very serious at the moment. Celebrity is doing the bare minimum to cover their bases while not annoying too many passengers who would then cancel (IF informed properly in advance).

Because they know they'll discover a whole slew of cases onboard. SMH.

For the most part we are all living with it now and will continue to do so long into the future.    The key is to get agencies and governments controlling the cruise lines to stop regulating them as a special case.   and to get the media to acknowledge that too.   Cruise ships are dealing with positive cases as are every other part of society.  But perhaps they have many more controls in place than your grocery store or restaurant or sports venue or just about any public place on land.

Well, let's also remember that cruise ships, as well as places of concentrated quarters like nursing homes, college dorms and prisons, are prone to the easy spread of other viruses like noro and have a long history with that. All those places have had extra attention placed upon them during Covid because of that. Cruise ships have that additional layer of going in and out of foreign ports where virus can be further spread to and from passengers. Some of the places you listed like a grocery store can be safer than a cruise ship if everyone is wearing a mask. But yes indoor restaurant dining and indoor sports venues or outdoor venues with everyone packed in close are just as much of a problem as cruise ships and should be treated in the same way.

Please send updates on this sailing. I know someone on board who is travelling solo and I cannot reach him. I’m a little worried about what’s happening on board. Please let us know.

Yesterday there were no new announcements of cases or any new restrictions. As a passenger, things seem good, as I stated in an earlier post, people are following mask rules ( for what it's worth).

As for not being able to reach the person you know, I haven't been able to get texts no matter what I've tried. Frustrating, but not uncommon on this ship.

Even Xcelerate Stream wifi is a disaster. Too bad considering it's price but it's definitely better than the last sailing where it was totally useless and I had it refunded entirely.

FYI: The casino closed early last night (23:30h) and will be closed today even after leaving Costa Maya. Andreea the host said it'll hopefully be reopened tomorrow evening  after leaving Cozumel but she doesn't know yet.

Pretty much impossible to elevate my BCC status to Amethyst under these conditions, no fault of the casino obviously but I'll definitely email them to consider applying a multiplier or something to my play. Not that I expect BCC to be very forthcoming about such a request.

Hey Fly and Sail, thanks so much for reporting what is going on as you sail. So, you said that you were just in Costa Maya with Cozumel next...are you able to go on excursions other than those sponsored by Celebrity?  We’re on the same itinerary in 10 days and have other than Celebrity excursions planned.  Just wondered what your situation has been.  Also, are they still doing nightly shows in the theater or have they been cancelled? Thanks so much!!

Excursions are being sold for all destinations and there have been no announcements in respect to cancellations. I'll walk around by myself a little bit after leaving the ship.

You are as long as you do not have any unvaccinated children in your party. Unvaccinated children can only go on Celebrity-organized excursions. We are doing our own thing in Cozumel and Roatán and will report back if there are any issues.

Around 6:15 this evening, Captain announced that 1 vaccinated passenger tested positive. Close contacts all tested negative.

The pool deck dance party is on for 10:15 tonight.

Haven't checked casino status since departure from Costa Maya at 6:30. ( where we were free to go in port on our own if vaccinated).

Pretty sure slots are open

Negative. Slots are locked because there is no staff in the casino to service the machines or the guests. No floor staff, no cashier. For tomorrow there is a Slot Hot Seat ($100 Free Play) announced in the daily program.

The casino is no different than sitting in a dining room with people eating, drinking, talking with NO mask vs. everyone masked in the casino.  Nor is it any different than dance parties etc.  A masked cruise without the casino, to be honest I would be bored and let down.  I don't do the dance parties and shows and sit at the martini bar. The casino is at least a money maker. They can put shields or block a seat at each table. Of course, that's my take being a gambler
