I totally agree Murano is wonderful -- tablecloths, wonderful atmosphere.  My only hesitancy would be that you may want to dress up for the occasion.  For us, after a day of traveling, unpacking, the life boat drill, etc. I just want a casual, nice dinner.  We were also disappointed in Tuscan and won't go back.

Could you explain what you mean by “dress up”?  Suit, tuxedo, ????

Pinboy, I looked for you yesterday but I guess it was your day off.  I am a big tipper, especially if the Pinboy "helps" the pins fall.     Duckpin bowling is #1.

Because of big tippers like you it's my 50th year off--

Why do you love playing with small balls , oops, duckpin bowling so much ?

I thought most Ameri--- oops, might be political , like big balls , oops, ten pin bowling ?

No, you probably don’t need a tux.  Look at YouTube. Tuscan is very casual. The tables in the back have a view of the wake of the ship. Reserve at sundown. I’m doing Murano on a sea day so I can enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and pampering.

I haven't seen a tux in many cruises, but a jacket for men and a little glitzy top for ladies usually in Murano.  Tuscan dress is whatever you'd be comfortable wearing in the MDR.  We always book Tuscan early dining.  Nice and bright early, but sundown comes quick so atmosphere changes to a nice warm vibe....JMO.

Have not nearly cruised as much as the cruise lifers, and I don't give a rats a** how anyone dresses on a ship, but I have never seen anyone ever in a tux or a full length gown.  Though I did enjoy seeing my mom dress like that for a night on the town in the 70's

Went to Monaco on a cruise.  Did not get into the casino.  But they were going to let my husband in because he’s Chinese and they thought he was a gambler.  We were both wearing business casual.

Not so long ago DH wore a tux on each 'formal' night...since that was eased, a nice jacket (no tie) does very well.  He looks just as 'dressy' as he did then IMO.    There are still some 'occasions' where a tux and gown would be in place, but on a cruise vacation...no......comfort AND style is our go-to.

How would that work when I'm a "rare" and Cheryl is a M-well to well? I've always passed right over the beef "for 2" options on menus.

Tom

If you explain your dilemma to the Murano staff they will probably cook you one each….Whilst they say it is for two they always try to oblige.

You quoted @LGW59 not me, so I don’t know who you are talking to?  Go back and read the posts, you will see.

Never seen anyone wearing a Tux on a Celebrity cruise?
I certainly concur that a tux on Chic night is not very common, I do not believe I have ever been on a Celebrity cruise when I did not see some people wearing tuxes.  (Maybe not on my Galapagos cruise)

What are the odds?
One of us must be exaggerating!

Because the day of embarkation is, as others have said, usually a rushing around, schlepping luggage, etc. kind of day, and because Tuscan is so much more casual than Murano, we prefer Tuscan for the first night (if we are going to eat there at all), and prefer to save Murano for later in the cruise when we've been more relaxed, maybe a sea day.  Just our personal preference.

We've eaten at both restaurants many times, but our dinner at Murano in December on the Silhouette was by far THE best meal we've ever had on any ship, and one that would rival lots of terrific meals on land.

My tux comment was after someone mentioned seeing some men wearing jackets in Murano.  Would I be turned away from Murano wearing business casual and maybe wearing a sweater but no jacket?  I promise the sweater will be cashmere or maybe not depending on when I can get to the dry cleaners.

I prefer Murano over Tuscan simply because Tuscan isn't enough of a differentiation over MDR.

As for what to wear for Murano .. I've never seen any reason to wear anything beyond smart casual. A long-sleeve dress shirt and chinos is my cruise costume for dinner every night, specialty restaurant or not. If I feel like it, I put a tie on for chic night.

I used to love dressing up in a tux on formal night. But then again, I used to have a Compuserve account, and had whitewall tires, and had an avocado refrigerator. [But please don't misinterpret this as any criticism of those who do want to do the dress up routine. I admire that in a way, used to do it myself, and believe that you should do you.]

I don't think anyone would be turned away from any restaurant at dinner during their cruise, unless the diner is wearing shorts...which I have seen turned away from MDR.  Odd you should mention it, but labels or materials would not be examined either if that's your point..LOL.  BTW...never have seen such a long thread comparing specialty options....must be very few cruise questions being asked.

Decisions to make, that's for sure...

For perhaps the last 50+ cruises we've taken, we've had a ritual of enjoying a bottle of Dom on the first night. I can much more see enjoying that in Murano over Tuscan Grille. Having said that, a bottle of Caymus Special or Tignanello would be equally, if not more, enjoyable in Tuscan Grille.

Time to have the hard talk with Cheryl, lol.

I typically wear long sleeve shirt and khakis if cold or maybe short sleeve.

My problem is my nosy partner.  I finally had to tell him the price of my yellow label because he kept asking.  (No it’s not expensive.)  I might get away with Caymus.  Dom would be harder.  Both would be at a premium over land.  🤣

However he has started saying, don’t book that suite we can spend the money on airfare or dinner or ???
