Reduced capacity?

This is fine but if they want to sell at 100% capacity then they need to drop contact tracing and testing! To have to isolate and wait 24-48 hours for a test result is not ideal!

‘Not Ideal’? Neither is contracting COVID and then spreading it to others.

New Ad: “Come cruise with us! we are dropping all requirements of vaccinations and pretesting, and we are not checking if anyone contracts COVID on board so we can be 100% capacity!”.

HaHa   You seem to be forgetting that testing isn't convenient for some people.

Given the access to proctored testing which can be done in your home or hotel room, that seems to remove inconvenience.  Our TA lat October meant 4 tests; more than happy to comply.  A friend just took a European river cruise . . . Mandatory test every day (yes, those were done by the cruise line), but the one she did before flying to Europe, before embarkation and before return to the US, she handled.

Maybe cruising isn't for you at the moment then!

The testing isn't a problem but you have to isolate between 24 to 48 hours before you have a result (either way) just because you were sat next to someone in the restaurant as they can't distance the tables at 100% capacity.

Maybe you should focus on your issues. I’ve cruised and am cruising because vaccinations are required, testing is done prior.

and the post about being required to be tested because you were in a table near someone who tested positive isn’t how contact testing is being done.

enough overblown.

I think we are talking about different tests.  You seem to be worried about contact testing once onboard.  The rest of us are discussing Covid testing required to board the ship.

This shouldn't matter to the capacity of the ship though.

I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth but I believe they are suggesting it is slow due to the additional demand created by more passengers. There is only so much bandwidth to go around. Having said that, I have not found the internet to be too bad. It's not lightning fast but it's generally ok.

Your statement is valid if they change the rules before the game and not afterwards. We booked based on certain things, which have since changed just before the cruise (like changing the itinerary to avoid testing on board as an example). I've said this many times, testing will not stop Covid but it can reduce the spread and who wouldn't want to see that.

Funny you mention the pools signage and max count. The other day, one side of the pool says 10 max and the other side says 25 max! Which rule are you to follow?

And even though you are required to wear a mask in the casino and theater, I have never seen full compliance. In fact on a couple of occasions in these two venues as many 20-30% without masks.  Unbelievable.

Oh the horror…

I've never seen any of the pools filled to capacity.  There always seems to be plenty of space in the pool when I hop in.

That did happen to a couple of people on our cruise 2 weeks ago. They missed 2 out of their 7 night holiday as they had to isolate as a precaution.

We sailed Princess back in January at 36% capacity.  It was glorious however we new that would never happen again and if we wanted to cruise again, it would be on a much fuller ship.

Unless we book one for the fall, our next cruise is in March 2023 on an 11 day Panama Canal cruise on the Edge and pretty sure it’ll be full

Why so long for isolation when a lateral flow test (rapid antigen)  literally takes 15 -30 minutes to get a result and is accepted to board?, Are they doing PCR tests, in which case it will catch many people out if they have had covid within the last 90+ days as they can still test positive. Glad we obtained Certificate of recovery as we would be caught out with this if we were tested onboard next month.

I have cruise constantly since the restart and full ship or empty the internet is the same.  Team’s meeting and calls work ok.  Slow website loads but it’s been normal.

You can be contagious before enough time has elapsed for a test to show a positive result.

So if testing doesn't find all of the cases, you're saying it doesn't make sense to test and find most of the people infected?

It is the assumption that you will find 'most' of the infected people that seems ill-founded, when it is likely that most of those infected will have become so during their travel to the ship and so will not be picked up with that test.

It just feels like if the test is worth doing 2 days before boarding because of the people it would detect, then it is worth doing it again 2 days after boarding perhaps?

So why do one but not the other, if the aim is to detect those who are positive?

It looks like Viking have taken the next step and stopped pre-cruise testing for non-US departures, and will deal with those presenting with symptoms or positive tests as they occur during the cruise.

It will be interesting to see if other lines follow...
