Good morning to all,

I got up later than usual and feel a bit more rested today.

Not sure about the days.  Don’t agree with all or nothing.  That usually doesn’t work out for me.

Aunt and uncles day—well, thanks to my father abandoning us, I never knew my aunts and uncles on his side.  However, my mother had one sister, who was like my second mother.  She was wonderful to me and I loved her dearly.

Tofu is not my thing.

I like the quote.

Tres leches cake is great and would love to have some.

The wine sounds wonderful too, but beyond my budget.

I have not been to the port.

Prayers for all who are on the cares list and cheers to those who are celebrating and cruising.

This week and next are really busy for us.  We seem to have appointments every day.

I am going to the Mayo Clinic on Thursday of next week to get some injections for relief for the pain in my hands and my right knee.

Then have to be back there the following Monday to see my PCP and blood work, ultrasound, etc.

In between, DH has a number of appointments.

I think everyday is filled this week.

Hope everyone has a great day

God Bless,

Terri

Good Morning All,

Its still dark here. I’m only up because I’m done sleeping. (Was done a few hours ago.)

@dfish You are bringing back very pleasant memories of Flam.

Yesterday’s meal (Portabella Ropa Vieja) was really good. DH said he’d like it again, but the rice (which I made) has to accompany it. He likes rice. I was able to use several veggies from our garden in it.

@kazu Your clematis is beautiful. As are your dahlias. I’d love to grow dahlias here.

Our passion fruit vines are going wild, and I started wacking them some. They are growing about 18”/week! No fruit expected until next year. (The fruit was actually available at our local market for $3.99 EACH!)

Have a great day everyone!

Glad the recipe changed your mind.🤣

It certainly did.

The name put me off but actually seeing the 🍰 cake I could eat it now😋.

Thank you for posting wonderful photos.

Good Tuesday morning friends!  It's a nice sunny morning so let's see what the day brings later.  The forecast says it's 72 with a high later of 90, and isolated thunderstorms expected at noon.  They say thundershowers every day and we haven't had any in days.  I heard this morning that St. Louis has had so much rain the last 24 hours that roads are closed with flooding.  Interstate 70 to downtown for instance.  Hope the water recedes and the rains move on.

Thanks Rich @richwmnfor the Daily and Fleet Report.  Did you see the Whatta ya have? comments from yesterday's photo of a Varsity dog?  For those who don't know they have a long line of cash registers manned by employee who yell that over and over to the crowds who walk in and stare at the menu signboards.  If you know what you want because you go often, you can jump right up to the front and place your order.  We haven't been there in a few years now due to Covid.  And the fact we try not to go to Atlanta often because of the crazy traffic.  How about you Ann @marshhawk, do you and Chuck go to Varsity much?

I think I'll pass on world tofu day, and all or nothing sounds okay, but Aunt and Uncle Day sounds very nice.  I have lost most of mine but we still have DH's Uncle Earl in California.  He turned 94 recently and we always like to hear of long-lived relatives because it ups our chances of living to a ripe old age.

The cake recipes look great. Tina @0106 thanks for helping out while Debbie is away.  As for the port of Maroe Bay, we have not been to that particular place in Fr. Polynesia.  It was posted here last on April 27, 2021.  Thanks for all who post photos later on.

Prayers said for our entire group, and Ukraine before I was out of bed. 🙏 Did the treadmill and had breakfast so I'm off to a good start.  Cheers for all our travelers in the group.   Happy 20th birthday to my darling granddaughter Morgan.  She is probably working today at her summer jobs in Tampa, at a dive shop and the Florida Aquarium.  We will see her in Ohio in a few weeks when we, and she, visit the family.  Here she is celebrating her 17th birthday on Emerald Princess on one of our 50th wedding anniversary cruises in 2019 before the whole world fell apart due to Covid. 00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKt14y05rHYELjjM7KHw57e?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1562706789

Also prayers today for my DD as she undergoes an outpatient surgery this afternoon.  I'll respect her privacy and not mention what her surgery is, but hopefully that will correct the issue and she will be back to preparing for the school year next week.

Jacqui @kazuwe can't wait to see photos of Shadow after she gets settled in with you.  What an adventure for you both!

Hope it's a wonderful day for everyone.

Happy birthday Morgan.

Best wishes to your daughter today Sandi.

Good morning all. I guess I should post and not just lurk. Not good when this wonderful thread drops off the first page.

i have now joined the air fryer club. We had an early birthday party on Saturday and that is what my girls got me as my gift. I made breaded chicken thighs and new potatoes last night. I can’t remember when I last had breaded chicken. Very good, moist, not greasy. Tomorrow night (actual birthday #72) I will use the air fryer to make the Hot Dogs for my Wise Wednesday women group.

I can’t believe how quickly the summer is moving along. And it has been a real summer, hot and humid! I don’t mind the heat but can do without the humidity. At least we have been able to swim every Wednesday.

off to my sister’s house to show her and her granddaughter how to use their sewing machines. Will check in later. Have a good day everyone celebrating and prayers for those needing them.

Since I was in Atlanta for High School I visited the Varsity many times. In those days they actually had car hops that put their card on your car as you drove in, then came and took your order and brought it to you. The comedian Nipsy Russell was a Varsity Car Hop for a while. It was quite common to stop at the Varsity on Friday Nights after a football game. The North Ave trade school is just across the downtown connector and provides a huge number of customers, particularly on Saturday game days. There is a tunnel under the downtown connector from the Varsity to the school campus.

I have heard they had car hops in the past.  They now have a lot more parking because hundreds of people eat there at a time.  Quite a successful business.🌭

My DBIL was a car hop in St. Louis at Steak 'n Shake back in the 1950's.  In the late 1960's we teens would drive through Steak 'n Shake showing off our cars.  When we stopped for a Steakburger we would back into the parking spot so we could watch the parade of cars.  They had car hops in the late 1960's too.  No one went inside to eat!🍔

The Ropa Vieja from yesterday is on my radar, although I'd make it with beef -- I like mushrooms, but as the main ingredient they would upset my digestion. I've had Tres Leches cake and wouldn't order it again. The alternative suggestion would suit me better but today's menu is apple juice, chicken broth, and ginger ale, plus a quart of some noxious solution at 5:00 p.m. and another quart at 2:30 a.m. I hope I don't sound too enthusiastic.

I got the blood draw uneventfully yesterday and had the result by bedtime -- improved enough that maybe no additional tests will be needed.

Good morning from beautiful Southwest Florida.

I'm not sure about the quote.

I've had some wonderful aunts and uncles including one uncle who was like a second father to me. My father worked a lot and my uncle as he never married was very close to my mother, sister and me, he would pick us up every Sunday evening and took us out to dinner at some great Chicago restaurants. He also in my teens bought me my first set of Golf Clubs, a Bowling Ball with bag and shoes, a stereo record player and when I returned from Vietnam a brand new car. He died at age 54 in an automobile accident that wasn't his fault, he was a great guy and I will never forget him.

I would try the cake.

We have never been to the port.

We usually have dinner out on Tuedays, probably Mexican tonight.

More Saharan dust coming to Florida on Wednesday which means more sneezing for me.

Thanks for The Daily, stay well and have a great day.

I'm really sorry to hear about your uncle.

He seemed like an uncle we all wished we had.

One of Pauline's work colleagues died on Saturday.

Make the most of every day  friends.

Graham.

Good luck!  Your post brings back recent bad memories.  That "noxious" solution was not good...I couldn't get all of it down at the early am dose.  Luckily, the test came out fine!

@kazu  Have fun with Shadow, can't wait to hear more.  Your flowers are beautiful.

DH is dealing with a mild case of covid.  Felt poorly for 36 hours, then felt fine, but he is troubled with a lingering cough now.

Prayers for all who need them, and "yay" for those celebrating.  Karen

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  All or nothing worked out for us once - we were at the casino on the Rotterdam VI and decided to put our nightly $20 each into the $5 machine; 2 spins later we cashed out with $1100.  I'm sure it'll never happen again.  I had some lovely aunts and uncles who gave me great advice I've used over the years.  I'll leave my tofu in the store for those who enjoy it.

I like today's quote, as I've always loved reading - now I'm fortunate to be able to share stories I enjoyed as a child with my grandsons.

We've got bright sunshine and clouds that are burning off.  We had another nice rain overnight so our hot spell is over and we're back to normal summer temps with a high predicted of about 25C (75F).  That means we can keep the windows open for most of the day and the water isn't going to quickly evaporate from the fountain.  Has anyone in the Daily Garden Club ever grown King Tut papyrus?  We have 3 plants this year and holy smokes, have they ever grown!  When we bought them in early April they were about 1 foot high - they are now taller than our 6' fence!  Because they are annuals, (at least in this climate), they'll be removed at the end of the season, but we will certainly buy them again next year.

Not a lot going on today - DH has an ultrasound on his calf this morning, so I guess we'll stop for breakfast on the way home.

@kazuthat's so exciting about Shadow - I'm sure she's going to love living with you!

@smitty34877you have so much on your plate; I don't think I could hold it together as well as you do.

@marshhawkokay, you've got me on the edge of my seat . . . please come back and elaborate on your stories!

@StLouisCruisersHappy Birthday to your DGD, and sending good vibes for your DD's surgery today.

@superomaHappy Birthday for tomorrow!

I'd love to have cake for dinner, but that's not likely to happen, so I think we'll be firing up the grill to make steak fajitas for dinner tonight.  Fajitas and a salad will be what we'll enjoy on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Extra for the people of Ukraine and for everyone who continues to provide aid.  We'll raise the glasses to celebrate all on the happy list.  Stay safe, wear masks when needed, get your boosters, and be well.

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Gerry

My parents married during WWll. My dad made it home but was quite ill. He died about a year after coming home. He knew his wife ,my mother was pregnant but sadly, died 3 weeks before I was born. My aunt and uncle insisted that my mother and I live with them. They were wonderful to us.They truly deserve a day.

Oh dear, another case of Covid.  Everyone is getting it!  I hope the cough goes away.  Mine didn't but I had a chronic cough for several years before Covid so it would have been a miracle for it to disappear now.  DH's high pitched, very annoying sounding cough went away quickly, thank goodness!

Thanks for the birthday and successful surgery wishes!  Hope your DH's ultrasound goes okay and they find the problem.  Still trying to figure my leg problem out.

DD sent me this "DGD approved photo" for DD to post on her Instagram.  She looks so adorable, just like her personality.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVIrd6Cf0q6QVK8Pfz6ntmzeUnDnu4gHHWpfyYq5WwzmNg?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1658841549I wish I knew where that was taken.

And since I've had no port photos to post in a few days I can go hog-wild with photos of other things!

Yesterday was granddog Sadie's first grooming.  She looks like a puppy model.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKZXHBZbiNSCL1Ih1vzvsZL5cYdfB3jRoL_VZILaXEufg?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1658841549

I think I'll text DD right now and do my Mama duties, telling her what to do.  I think they should put the floor outlet cover on the outlet and not have it stored there next to it.  Even if Sadie hasn't touched it in the past, she may decide to act differently today.  Wouldn't want her trying to taste it.  What would she do without me watching over her?

The Missouri Botanical Garden says that, in frost-free areas, it can grow to 15 feet, but in St. Louis, where it would have to be brought indoors for the winter, 5 to 8 feet would be typical. Other sources say that it's not a good plant to overwinter indoors, and if it continued to grow the ceiling height would be a problem. Are you growing it at the edge of a pond, or in a wet setting?

Good morning all!

Not sure about all or nothing, I'm more of a moderate kind of person.  I had 4  uncles and 4 aunts, RIP.

Will pass on the tofu, red wine, and cake.  Looking forward to any photos of the port, it's on the Grand Australia '24 itinerary.

It's going to be a warm one today and the 5 days after, then down into the low 70's.

Have a great day everyone!

Update on my brother’s car. It’s totaled. He had a letter from another insurance adjuster, assuming it was  from the driver that fled the scene, now Nationwide will go after them  for additional money. There really aren’t many used cars available for what he wants 🤞

Nationwide is giving $8,000
