On a transpacific there was a guy that wanted his soft boiled eggs a particular way. It took  few days but they chef got it right until about half way through the cruise.  Then it became a joke with the waiter bringing a dozen eggs boiled for different times to find the egg cooked correctly.  The only thing we could figure was the pressure had changed.  I missed the whole gang that went down to eat the rejected eggs.  He has done this trip numerous times and I never was clear that this hadn’t happened before.

Iain loves a good soft boiled egg.  Usually they do a good job so the yolk is still soft inside.   On one cruise we gave up after 5 attempts.   Once our butler said he even watched to make sure it was cooked properly.... yet again a hard boiled egg.    We shifted to Fried Over Medium.

Finally caught up.  Really enjoying all our off topic discussions.   Feels like sitting around with friends and just letting the conversation wander.   It is keeping me entertained while sipping my first Triple Cappuccino.

8/14/2022 -- Qaqortoq

We arrived early and it is now 7:22 local and they have not yet started tendering.    Rich just came on the PA and said we haven't cleared yet but should be able to tender shortly.

We got a pile of mail today.    Captain's Club (not sure if related to status) have instructions to go to MDR on 5 and will be escorted to tenders when available, Suites go to Retreat and other passengers pick up Tender Tickets at Cellar Master.

We have a noonish tour so will probably not have any delays going ashore as the majority of folks will have already tendered in.

The ship was just cleared ...

Yea... should be an interesting election in November as they also will be enshrining the rights of women to choose for themselves on matters like abortion.

I tell you that after being married and the citizens of California voting to make gay marriage was a real slap in the face.    Luckily the State Supreme court quickly ruled that existing marriages were grandfathered.    What a mess for taxes though.   The Feds would not allow us to file a Joint Return.    I put down Married as a protest.   They made us file a Partnership Return (like a business)  We had to put 1/2  our income and expenses on each other's returns.   To file our accountant had to create 5 different returns to comply with both state and federal law.

I remember the California mess and couldn’t believe you wouldn’t be grandfathered especially if other states recognized your marriage.  I hadn’t heard that the federal taxes were such a mess though.  As an extra thought, and glitch, does California require you to send at least some of the Federal forms?  They’d certainly deserve that nightmare!

when I returned from an overseas assignment Virginia wanted to know why we were filing in Philly.  The answer was that that was because the Feds told us to!  I believe they may have notified us that we hadn’t filed our federal taxes so they couldn’t proceed.  I remember my Dad as a nonresident of California and thus filing his Federal taxes in Texas, his permanent address.  California kept bugging him about not filing and ignoring the answer to their why such that the last letter said he would be arrested if he ever returned to the state.  In a retaliation of sorts they reported to IRS he hadn’t filed his federal taxes in California either, however when the IRS asked why and got the answer that he filed in Texas as required they read the answered and dropped it!

when the waiter came out with a filled tray of eggs cooked at various times apparently the whole table started laughing.  And yes some had runny whites, inside which no one wanted!

Captain just announced a small number of COVID cases reported.  Masks will be required in Casino when seated and theater.

From previous cruises that is usually an indication there are over 1% of guest affected.

Maybe you can find out during the sailing if there have been any changes in the isolation procedures?  Can you isolate in your own cabin or are they still moving people to a designated area?

Enjoy your day and I hope the fog doesn't detract from your tour.

I heard from a guest on   our roll call that tested positive 2 days ago.   They are isolated in original veranda cabin and said they were being well taken care of.  Will be retested at 5 days and if negative will be able to enjoy the ship again.

My wife finds so many life hacks like your poached egg one on Tik Tok. I refuse to create an account because I know I will lose hours and hours falling down that rabbit hole. 😀

That’s just wonderful. Hopefully the “small number” is well short of the 20 it would take to hit the 1% figure because we as well as most others are so tired of testing between B2B legs. 🤞🤞

That's my biggest concern about our upcoming cruise on the Summit. We've sailed 4 times this past year and not gotten Covid once so far (knock wood). We'll be following our same protocols, avoiding elevators and  crowds when possible, masking indoors, washing hands and doing everything we can to avoid the virus, but know it's still very possible to get it, especially with the ship expected to be close to full capacity. Would just hate to spend a bunch of days stuck in a cabin with no access to fresh air.

Interesting will have to try it.

Ok... recently I found a YouTube video on cooking the perfect poached egg.  It seems so easy but be a difficult task.

Probably the most important part is to have Fresh Fresh Eggs... which most of us don't have.   If you don't have a chicken in the back yard.    Crack the egg into a strainer and let it sit for a couple minutes.  A lot of liquid will come off but the white and yolk will stay intact.   Pour from strainer into gentle boiling water (no stirring like many do)    The form the perfect egg with none of those nasty looking feathers.     Cook 1 1/2 - 2 minutes and immediately plunge into Ice Bath.   Before serving just drop in hot water for about 30 seconds.

The things I find on YouTube.

I gave up trying to poach eggs years ago and now I just cruise to have them.  Much better system. 😉

Jim thank you for taking us along with you.  I am finally caught up.

Early on you said that Zeniths, Concierge and b2b are invited to the concierge lunch.   Is that unique to Summit?  That is not the case on Equinox.  I will be doing a b3b on the Equinox Jan/Feb 2023.  I am Elite+.  How can I make that happen?

Enjoy your cruises.  Love following and learning.  This review has gotten warm and fuzzy.

Mary
