Does it matter - over 55? State of residence? Past cruiser?

Asking if and when these items make a difference.  I’ve plugged and unplugged this information in over and over thru the years and never have seen a lower price based on adding the information.  I’m over 55, live in Illinois, and am a past cruiser on several lines.

Also, are there any states that get better rates based on this information?  When is there a discount given for being over 55?

Thanks for the input

Depends on the cruise line, I guess.  I frequently get discounts for various things like loyalty status, military, residency, etc.  In fact, I'd say it's more so than not.

In theory, states where cruise lines embark tend to get last minute discounts.

I have never gotten an age based discount but my preferred line is Holland.

, Holland does offer a past customer OBC deal.  I do get last minute deals from various lines leaving my home state and I do get past customer deals.  The very best deals are the last minute deals

Our TA's site stores our personal profile, and when I do a search I usually get a notation of discount based on one of the factors that apply to us (state, veteran, repeater, over 55).  Whether it is a significant discount I don't know.

My sister and b-i-l enjoy the casino.  We don't.  We're going on a cruise together soon and apparently the line keeps record of such as they are getting a "casino discount", which I never even knew there was such a thing.

At least once I booked under a state discount (Michigan; I guess at that time they were looking for Michiganders, for whatever reason).  And several times I've booked discounted rates based on my status with the cruise line (i.e., past cruises).  It's random - especially the state discounts) - so I find it's always worth the few seconds it takes to tell them about my state/ID#/age.

I'm taking my first cruise on Celebrity as a Florida resident soon. I got a 15% discount on the cruise.

HAL from time to time sends me offers based on my loyalty status. I got about a 15% discount on my last 3 week cruise with them.

These discounts come about 4-5 months before sailing.

I've never received a discount for being over 55, a NM resdent, and a past cruiser on a few lines.

We once were upgraded to a mini-suite from a balcony though, our first ever upgrade! Then the cruise was cancelled. Thanks, COVID. 😉

Yes, there is such a thing.  It exists because it is axiomatic that the more someone “plays” at a casino, the more certain it is that said person will lose money to the operators of that casino.

I know that there are some posters on CC who will insist that they always come out ahead.  Yes, it is possible to come out ahead one or two sessions — but the more you play the more certain it is that you will come out behind.

If you think for a minute:  do you believe that a cruise line would give discounts to people who are likely to win money from them?

DUH!

It makes sense: the discount on a last minute booking is hardly likely to exceed the last minute flight booking price jump for anyone who does not live near the port.

Once on a roll call, one of the participants mentioned a state discount being added. (IIRC, it was for Massachusetts.) They mentioned it and hoped it was also for NY state for us. It was not, but we discovered they had added a senior discount which we received after calling our TA to add it.

Don't know about 55, but at 65 you can get a bottomless cuppa Joe at Denny's!  😀
