Yesterday I was naming off the WC blogs/ threads I plan to follow to DH. When I mentioned “Pete and Judy”  and qualified it with “WC Rugman”, he grinned and nodded.😉

Friends, Yarn, Tempura Ice Cream, and the COVID Dance!

While planning the 2022 World Cruise, we came to know several people via ZOOM, who helped by putting together some presentations of the various ports.  When the 2022 World Cruise was canceled, Jon and Deborah changed plans and substituted several other Grand Voyages in lieu of doing the 2023 World.  Well, one of their cruises will be Grand South America on the Volendam, which is leaving Port Everglades at the same time as the Zuiderdam on 3 January.

We met Jon and Deborah for lunch at the Foxy Brown restaurant (see photo above), where we had a wonderful lunch.  They have some exciting adventures ahead, which include doing The Camino de Santiago (a 500-mile hike across northern Spain)  Wow!….

Sheep Thrills is a fantastic local yarn shop in nearby Lauderhill.  Of course, we had to stop by and replenish our dwindling yarn supply.

Kathi, aka Scrapnana, had to cancel the world cruise at the last second.  She was going to be one of our tablemates for the cruise.  We stopped by to see her in the Broward County Hospital, where she is undergoing tests but remains in great spirits.  We will miss her very much on this cruise.

Remember the DOC DANCE?  You know – back in the day when you received that THICK ENVELOPE from your travel agent full of luggage tags, tickets, and fun brochures.   That’s been replaced by the email notification “bell” dance – not quite the same.

The evening highlight was our successful COVID test, followed by the new COVID dance when we received the READY TO SAIL email from VeriFly.  We celebrated our results with some Tempura Ice Cream we picked up from a local Chinese restaurant.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get it home fast enough, and it turned into a Tempura milkshake – It was still good!

Tomorrow will be our first sea day as our Grand World Voyage begins.

Here is our YouTube Short for today – 1 minute – enjoy!

Quick hits -

check in time hacks

11:12 am - arrive Terminal 26 in our rental car

11:15 am - bags checked in- I return to Avis to return car

11:25 -car retuned - waiting in shuttle bus line

11:45 - shuttle bus departs

11:54 - arrive Terminal 26 - join line.  - we learned later that there was a priority line for wheel chairs and 4/5 stars etc.   But we later learned that line moved slower than standard line.   They only had one person working priority line and 6 working standard line.  Plus people in this line seemed to take longer.   VeriFLY helped at this point.  If you had VeriFLY - you were done in 30 seconds.   Otherwise 5 minutes as people had to dig thru and "find" all their paperwork.    Keep in mind this was my limited observations from afar.  What you experienced may be different.
12:28 inside terminal 26

12:30 we were offered chance to movie to priority line - we declined.   Good call based on our continued observation.
12:40 our initial doc check completed- 30 seconds.
12:44 thru security. - no line

12:46 - check in at iPads

12:49 - done with check in- head to ship

12:56 - take embark photo

1:05 - on the ship - Henk greeting everyone along with Ian (C & TD)

1:08 - in our cabin!!!

My DW used to say "stay in the non priority line, it will be faster since 80% of the passengers are 4&5*" (I then started listening to her 😁)

Wouldn't that have been caught while at home entering info to get boarding passes and luggage tags?

We visit too many countries that need visa stamp pass.   But good observation.   I wonder if that was their story.    This was second hand to me so ymmv

Not in many Countries visited on GWC. And ship needs to collect them in some ports for local agents to review and stamp. Used to be you had to have a certain number of blank pages left in the book, even if not expired.

Sorry. I should have made it explicitly clear that my BC comment was so tongue in cheek that it was hurting me.

We passed our COVID tests and we VERIFLY determined that we are officially READY TO SAIL!!!!

it is now a requirement to use Verifly?  two famous you tubers mentioned they had to do this on Noordam for NZ.

I thought one could just use the HAL app or on line documents

Due to outbreaks down under, it may be but its not required everywhere. It (and testing) are port specific. Actually Verifly is nice to speed the process, when it works.
