Carnival- Main guest no show

I’m in need of a recent answer. I’ve seen past posts precovid but nothing recent. Has anyone been in a situation or know of, that if the main guest doesn’t show would the other’s get to board. My son’s gf has the stateroom booked in her name casino rate but she can’t go, my son and his friend are in the same room. It’s fully paid for.

The key item here is 'fully paid for'. The cruise line has the money.

 

Check the cruise contract's "terms and conditions" to see if there are any age restrictions on occupancy - your son may need to meet a minimum age restriction for cabin occupancy.

 

If your son has travel insurance, and does not want to take the cruise, check the insurance terms and conditions to see if a roommate canceling is a covered condition.

 "Fully paid for" may be arbitrary. If it 's  a casino offer, I believe the guest that booked the cabin has to board. If they don't, the casino offer could be void. The others in the cabin could be "re-fared", and pay a higher fare.. I'm not saying this would be the case. The O.P. may consider checking with the Casino Dept.

My son is 22 and his friend is 19 however none of them bought the travel insurance. We have 3 other staterooms as this is a family trip. We were just wondering if anyone’s been through this recently.

At least, the price will change.  The third person can not sub for lead.  The last report here was the sailing person needed to pay rack rate.

If the person eligible for the reduced fare can't board, the rest of the party will be re-assigned to a non reduced, meaning higher, fare.

The casino offers do say the person who received the offer must sail, as Evanbob suggests. You might look at the others in your party, perhaps someone else may have a comparable offer, or close. It would require some switching around on paper, but may save them some money. How good the original offer was could influence whether it's worth it to try and see if they do nothing if he doesn't show.

My son’s gf had a better casino rate and obc which was why they booked under her name. The cruise is fully booked there are absolutely no rooms available since the cruise is in a couple weeks. His casino promos for other cruises aren’t too bad if they were to base it on that to reprice. I’m just hoping they’ll be able to board. We don’t mind paying the difference. I’m always concerned when carnival makes changes they have to release the room to rebook the room then someone might snatch it. We have 3 other staterooms so his 19 year old friend should be ok since a couple of us are oldies but goodies in our forties.

The casino rate is for the main guest and they must show. Otherwise, the remaining will be moved to standard pricing and have to cover the difference. Otherwise, everyone and their enemies would be doing this. Just pay a small fee to those that get the best deals and have them be a no-show. Expect a hefty increase in cost and loss of all the added benefits of the main guest (OBC, free Cheers if included, etc).

Just curious, if your son and friend just showed up and said the "main guest" would show up later, could they board?  Once they are onboard you wouldn't think Carnival would kick them off.  And how would they charge them more money once on board?  It might be a couple hours before they determine that the main guest is a no show.  Just curious about how this works . . .

They don't leave the home port until the guest manifest is a settled matter.

I suggest calling carnival and see what it would take to transfer the rm into your son's name using his casino deal. It may not be as good, and you may have to pay a little more, but I don't see why they wouldn't let him keep the same rm.

Casino offers (really any VIFP offer) are not transferable to other people.

We have had a main guest no show at the port before without issue and they didn't charge anyone extra...BUT it was not on a casino rate. Just a regular VIFP rate.  It doesn't keep the ship from sailing. I don't know if they would change the rate once you are on board or not because it is a casino rate.  I would *think* it would be unlikely they would do that.

I would be inclined to just deal with it now and take the guess work out of the equation.  You should be able to switch it to your son and the other guest alone.  May involve cost, but you are certain no issues this way.

 

I would start by calling and asking "what if" the girlfriend can't make it and we switch it to just the other two guests with your son as primary.  See what the answer is, and then when they quote you a price you can then say OK let's do it then - if you are sure she is not coming.

My pvp is no longer with the company and neither is our casinos host. My absolute worst fear is I get a rep who’s not familiar on how to make changes and he or she accidentally releases the room to rebook and someone snatches it right at that moment. We’ve actually had that happen. That’s kind where my hesitation is in contacting them. The cruise is fully booked no rooms available for 2, 3 or 4 guests.

If you call with a "what if" scenario of what will happen at the port BUT do not change the room at that time then you should be fine. Just make sure and tell whoever answers the phone that the GF is "not sure" so you aren't changing anything just yet. You're just getting information. Whomever you speak to should be able to list what will happen and how much cost will be involved when you get to the dock. Then you can handle it at the port if you prefer that method. Otherwise, it's a casino deal, just gamble it and show up. I really doubt they'll turn you away- they don't want ANY empty rooms. They'll just charge more money.

So did just that, thank you for the advice. The rep said there would be a $169 fee to remove the gf and they could use my son’s casino rate instead. There’s no fare increase and forfeit any fare credit also there’s a decrease in OBC since the gf had a lot more. She could be more definitive if and when we change it. Also they would’ve had to change rooms to a 2 person instead of 3 if the cruise wasn’t fully booked.

I just wanted to update everyone. I just spoke to the casino department who would actually be the ones to change the everything since it’s a casino offer. The original Carnival representative was completely wrong. Not only was there a $169 fee to remove the gf there was a fare increase and a substantial one at that. We ended up paying $700 more and they chose the least of the OBC promos because they said that’s the only one that it could accommodate. The whole situation gave me a headache.

This happened to me in November.  Booked for me and my DD under her name as we got a better rate using her past guest number than mine.  We had OBC as this trip was rebooked from a Covid canceled one and also had the cheers package.  When the trip finally arrived she was not able to go.  My TA said if I cancelled her I would get a refund of her fare, but then would have to pay the then going rate which was about double what I actually paid for the two of us.  TA said just have her be a no show.

 

So I checked us both in the two weeks before as if she was going.  I went to the pier by myself and when I checked in they asked if she was with me and I told them no, she is coming separately.  I was told by the TA and folks in this group not to tell them she was not coming, but that we were travelling separately.  Got on the ship no problem and did not have to pay any extra in the fare difference.  I did, however, lose half of the OBC (her half) and have not yet seen a refund on her fees, port taxes or cheers.  But since those fees are way less than the fare difference, if I don't see a refund I'm fine.
