ETski Posted June 8, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2023 We are bringing two teenage grandsons on a cruise this summer. Since the boys don't have a lot of dress clothes would they be able to wear nice shorts to the dinningroom?

I think for dress up nights long pants look better, however I've seen shorts on men on dress up night.
not-enough-cruising Posted June 8, 2023 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2023 You will have no problem with some nice dress shorts. I haven't packed slacks in years for a Caribbean cruise, pleated shorts and a polo or button down every night, including "dress your best" and specialty

Rare 1025cruise Posted June 8, 2023 #7 Share Posted June 8, 2023 The stated dress code does not differentiate a teenager from an adult. Whether or not it gets enforced or not, is a different story. 1

Rare moposh Posted June 8, 2023 #9 Share Posted June 8, 2023 Yes. I wore shorts my first night as my luggage had not yet arrived to my room. It wasn't an issue. I have seen people wear shorts on formal nights.

MCC retired Posted June 8, 2023 #13 Share Posted June 8, 2023 I dislike looking at hairy legs while at dinner. That goes for the men also.

PhillyFan33579 Posted June 8, 2023 #18 Share Posted June 8, 2023 To reiterate what others have stated, there is no dress code (that is enforced) for the MDR. I have been on 27 RCI cruises post COVID and have seen people wear everything from tuxedos and formal dress to bathing suits.
cruisegirl1 Posted June 8, 2023 #19 Share Posted June 8, 2023 (edited) ANY shorts are fine. You will not be turned away from the dining room. We dress a bit and I imagine we will soon be the exception. M Edited June 8, 2023 by cruisegirl1
loman Posted June 8, 2023 #20 Share Posted June 8, 2023 I like wearing shorts to dinner too.😁
AC Stew Posted June 8, 2023 #21 Share Posted June 8, 2023 As long as they wear a clean shirt of some description and leave the baseball caps in the cabin, they would probably be just fine. Especially if your sailing is a more relaxed Caribbean cruise. But if it's Europe ... they might want to invest in a pair or two of khakis or even black jeans. No need to get fancy, just a step up from what they'd wear during the day.

Sure. I would add not just fine, but extremely fine. Why does RCI even have some stupid description of what is expected to be worn in MDR for dinner. What if someone cannot read?. Honestly I cannot imagine a person who does not have ANY long pants. Well I suppose I could, but that would not be someone who cruise. Tatka Posted June 8, 2023 #25 Share Posted June 8, 2023 What is the dress code onboard all ships? When you’re onboard, the right look will vary by venue. But here are a few types of suggested attire you’ll see, grouped by item. Casual: You’re on vacation – relax! Jeans, polos, sundresses and blouses are all the right amount of laid back. Please keep swimwear to the Pool Deck. Shorts are welcomed for breakfast and lunch. Smart Casual: Think of this as a step up from your typical dinner wear. Dress to impress with collared shirts, dresses, skirts and blouses, or pantsuits. Jackets, sports coats and blazers are snazzy and welcomed. Formal: Make it a night out in your best black-tie look – suits and ties, tuxedos, cocktail dresses or evening gowns. There can be 1-3 formal nights during a sailing and is at the ship’s discretion.
