Poll: If Celebrity offered Captain's Club loyalty points if you signed up for their branded credit card, might you do it?

This is the poll.  Do you prefer a spreadsheet?

No it’s just that usually when posts start with the word poll there is an actual way to vote on an issue and it keeps track of the statistics and such.  I have never created one, but I have seen many. And I know that sometimes people think that they have created a goal but it didn’t actually get accomplished so I just wondered if that’s what happened in this case.

We just recently booked a 2025 transatlantic in a sky suite after they stopped including daily service charges in Retreat bookings. I signed up for the Celebrity card for the 30,000 points (advertisement on the app), which translates to $300 OBC. Combined with OBC from our travel agent, that would be enough “free money” to cover gratuities. I will spend enough on the card to get another small pot of OBC because I expect gratuities to increase again before our trip. There is no other reason to have the card, considering Celebrity Retreat has essentially priced itself out of our comfort zone, excluding a few deals like the one we booked, so we will not be frequenting the line in the future (this will be our third sailing with them).

Extra Captain’s Club points would be meaningless to me. Other benefits mentioned in this thread (e.g., insurance) are covered adequately by other cards I already have.

Ok then, 100 points?

No. The card essentially offers 1% cash back (which is bad) in the form of Celebrity OBC (which is terribly restrictive). Using this card is essentially giving money away. There are countless better options.

And the post upthread is correct. This isn't a poll, it's just a regular thread.

No.

I wouldn’t like to see that happen.   If it did it would turn out like many other loyalty programs where there are so many getting into the higher levels that those levels becomes meaningless and the benefits become reduced or eliminated.   It would dilute the program.

I belonged to a casino rewards program like many others.   They started applying points for credit card use.  The highest level was  diamond.  Now that level has few benefits or status. It was replaced by ruby, platinum, and now I think black plus there are also a more exclusive level that is obtained thru gaming and not from credit card use.  .  Zenith is hard to obtain as it should be,  but it will become the equivalent of select if they start rewarding points for credit card use.

Not so. There is also the option to take it as a credit on your credit card account. You are not limited to taking it as OBC.

No way. The airlines that make money from co-branded cards sell miles to banks but they have passenger volume that is exponentially higher than what Celebrity or RCG carries.

The Celebrity card is terrible, even at the proposed bonus. Captain’s Club status has very little value. Despite being Elite, I don’t think we’ve ever actually benefited from one of the perks. The point value is also extremely low. It’s not like an airline where you have potential a free (minus fees) loyalty upgrade from economy to business that saved you $10k on a single flight. That has value. A free scoop gelato or $8 savings on your WiFi package does not.

If you're priced out of Retreat, let me know if you try MSC Yacht Club, which I've heard good things about, and the pricing seems to be much better.  I've sailed on MSC quite a few times, but not in YC.  We did an Aurea Grand Suite for NYE, but that's not YC.

To clarify, it's a poll in the way that I had intended.  I find the comments to be more meaningful than a simple click to vote tabulation format.

Disagree.  It's not a poll it's an personal opinion thread.

Having their stock is a much better deal IMHO, but we don’t need the premium drink package or a free Caribbean cruise; access to the Retreat is nice if not doing a suite.  Just my opinion.

yes.. initial bonus worth it, but if you cancel you'll get a  credit ding..so it will probably sit unused like ours..

poll or not a poll, the poster has made valuable past contributions to CC..including live from reviews with great pics and helpful info.

he raised a topic that has garnered interesting  comments,  so no need to pile on based on poll or not a poll..who cares?

How does this work?

In order to receive the initial 30,000 bonus points you first need to spend $1,000.00 within 90 days of signing up for the Celebrity BOA card. 30,000 points equal $300.00 OBC or $300.00 to apply to the balance of your cruise. You can also use Celebrity's BOA card with RC for OBC or payment.

Agree. And answers for those that may have thought of signing up for the BOA card while booking another cruise while on the ship.

I only raised the question because sometimes people have tried to start a poll and actually been unsuccessful so if that was the case here, I was sure somebody would be able to help with instructions of how to do it

I agree. It would be terribly unfair for someone to buy loyalty points when elite and above have sailed for years to get to that point.

How's it any different than the reciprocal program between Celebrity and RC?

If you get points from RC, I assume you had to earn them by sailing on RC, not using your credit card to buy things.

No need to assume. CAS points and CC points do not transfer from line to line. If you are Diamond or above with RC that makes you Elite with Celebrity, but have zero CC points. If you are Elite or above with Celebrity you are Diamond with RC with zero CAS points.

Points towards credit card points for getting  OBC credit on a cruise are one thing,  but points towards advancing in  levels of Cap Club is what I would oppose.. They have already been too loose with that!

It took some of us yrs to accrue enough Cap Club  points to move up, esp if we cannot afford suites.. fewer points for less money spent .   It took us many,  many cruises and cruise nights to achieve E + on X, and  also some mid  range level on Royal C.

I  totally respect ZENITHS..some who cruise in suites,  but most who showed loyalty by frequently cruising with the brand.

I also think reciprocity with Royal C has overwhelmed X..  Royal C  crossovers have crowded lots of X  events b/c Royal C has had  a larger client base over the years..Just my opjnion..

On some past cruises, the visiting Royals had special parties and focus groups as X tried to woo them....

I see some opposed to this, but how is getting CC points for spending any worse than getting CC points for watching online videos that many probably don't watch anyway?  The spend would give points to the branded credit card users, and this would benefit Celebrity/RCCL directly in several ways.

I'm trying to view this from 2 perspectives.  From a corporate perspective, i.e. more revenue.  And from a customer perspective, i.e. more perks/benefits.

Don't leave out the reciprocal program RCG has. We made Elite and Diamond long before the reciprocal program. IMO, I understand why but not a huge fan as it has created some problems. Especially for RCs CAS program.

I might have missed it.

What is the Annual Fee for the card ?

Who is the Issuer of the card ?

If someone is not a frequent cruiser, why get the card ?

LOL, and for what it's worth ----- If you think of the $$$$ spent towards Captain Club point levels, it's totally " nuts " for the perks they provide.

Wait !!!  Take that back !! I forgot about the 1 scoop of gelato !!!!
