MERGED Missing ship on purpose

Recommended Posts

Okay, has anyone ever intentionally missed ship in port on purpose?  On an upcoming cruise we’d like to spend more time in one port than allowed.  Is there much of an issue if we stay and then either fly or take the train to the next port?

Which area of the world are you cruising? Do you really want to inconvenience everyone else's vacation by possibly delaying the ship's departure if it hangs around waiting for someone to return who has no intention of doing so?

Maybe best to let the ship know of your desires to learn of the ramifications and so they don't wait around for you?

There are a lot of issues with that.

Check with the ship's protocols.

Oooohhhh... Do NOT do that!!!!!! You can probably get permission to not return to the ship if you just let them know. But you MUST let them know! Else they will waste resources in looking for you and possibly waiting for and they will not be well pleased with that!

This has been discussed many times around Cruise Critic. Staying ashore and catching up is possible in some circumstances. The ship needs to be notified, and permit the side trip. In some cases it may not be allowed for Immigration reasons. No refund or discount will be granted.

Just "intentionally missing the ship" is not a wise choice. Pre-arranging it is the better choice.

At this point, I’m just doing research to know whether it’s possible.  Not trying to not would I believe we’d be inconveniencing anyone.  I appreciate all of the feedback.

You have posted this on 3 cruise line boards, which line are you considering "missing the ship" ?

Didn’t want to give away too much information and also wanted perspective of lines we’ve cruised with.

I appreciate the feedback, your advice is more or less what I was looking for - thx.

As asked earlier, what part of the world are you talking about?

Why not just arrive a couple of days early?  Assuming that's an option if you work.

Mid cruise port, so not possible.  As well, we’re extended on both ends of the cruise in different cities.

Yes, we've done it several times across different cruise lines. As long as you let the ship know in advance it shouldn't be a problem. Never has been for us

Actually for London, want to take DW to Mamma Mia but only an evening show the day we’re in port.

  • Host Hattie changed the title to MERGED Missing ship on purpose

It's relatively easy to set this up ahead of time.  Depends on the country.  But please don't just miss the ship.  It's unfair to the rest of the passengers if they are looking for you.

From Southampton? Where are you planning to catch up with the ship?

Much easier to book a cruise on the Allure for that!

Other side of the channel.  Again, don't want to give away TMI.

We love the Allure and have been on her a few times, we've also seen Mamma Mia when it was on the Quantum.  It's DWs favorite show.

I would suggest you consult the law concerning illegal immigration for the country (port) you wish to "invade."

Not really an invader, have dual citizenship.
