Leaving ship a day early

Recommended Posts

Our cruise ends in Seattle. We dock at 11:00 AM and overnight in Seattle. Would we be able to disembark on the day we dock to catch an earlier flight? Or do we need to wait until the next day?

Thanks

Also wondering, can we board a day late on a repo cruise? Not U.S. we board in Dubai and then overnight there.

Also, no CBP.  You have to go through customs and they won't be there until the scheduled debarkation.  The ship and everyone onboard has to clear customs.

RCI might be able to confirm this - unless no one is allowed off the ship till the next day, immigration and arrival formalities should be scheduled shortly after arrival.

That should work but you need to let RCI/ship know you are arriving late.

I’ve done it but not in the US, I believe it was Athens.

That being said, I was on an Anthem TA where about 200 passengers disembarked in Boston instead of waiting for Bayonne.

Bottom line, you won’t know until you ask.

Was this prior to covid days?   Since the restart of cruising I have heard it is no longer permitted.

Assuming this is a TP and Seattle is your first US stop.

When you arrive in Seattle, CBP will process the entire ship. It is unknown how long that will take.

After you are cleared, you can leave the ship at any time.

I think you are thinking of downstreaming which is boarding at a different port or debarking t a different port.  Since these are overnights in the same port this is a different situation.

But the poster that i was responding to was referring to a TA crossing on Anthem in 2022 that docked at Boston before disembarkment in NJ.  Not sure they stayed in Boston overnight.

It took hours in October when we sailed from Vancouver heading to San Diego.  The port authorities make it very difficult.  The cbp people told us Seattle authorities didn’t give them the equipment that would interact with ship wifi. Non US  citizens processed in the terminal and US citizens on the ship.  At some point they finally started to process US  citizens in the terminal.  It took hours.

Missed that part, just saw the other couple posts about the overnights

Please forgive me if this question is rude, but why do you want to get off early?

I'm the kind of passenger that gets on as early as possible on embarkation day, and gets off as late as possible on disembarkation day! I love hearing other people's perspectives though!

We will be returning from a long trip which includes 3 other cruises, and about 3 weeks in Tokyo. Usually I also want to stay on the ship as long a possible, but this time the flight home is so much cheaper on Thursday, and I will be ready to get home.

If you’re talking about the Anthem in April next year (I’m on this also), Royal might make arrangements with immigration to allow passengers off on Thursday, but nobody really knows at this time. You could try calling Royal and asking, but I doubt they would know. I live about 20 mins away from the port, and it will be less crowded on Thursday for debarking, since only 1 ship will be at Pier 91 that day, but I plan on staying onboard overnight. You could try asking on the Roll Call and see if anybody has had this experience before.

We are cruising on Navigator next month, I plan on asking then. I know each ship is different, but they may have some idea if it is going to be possible or not. Looking forward to meeting you next year!

Last year we docked in Bayonne, NJ one day earlier than planned due to hurricane Lee in Atlantic. People were allowed to leave that day, but we all went through immigration.

And that was a cluster*.  😞  But debarking the next day was a breeze.  🙂

* Thru the smoke filled casino, back thru the smoke filled casino, thru the dining room, out on the promenade deck, thru the "jetway" into the terminal, thru immigration, out of the terminal, around the terminal, walk to the ship, and finally back on board.

I honestly do not remember issues. Maybe going straight to Solarium made us forget inconveniences.

We were a bit sad as our friends joined us on that cruise in hope to explore Hopewell Rocks and Fundy Trail Parkway... we booked a car. Oh well. That day in St John they also had huge explosion right  near that port. At least we are alive. 🙂

Was that the first point of entry into US? They would have had customs and  immigration set up there.

Wow that’s another thing that changed. The casino was smoke free on our 2022 transatlantic and we used to go back to the elevators through it from the Music Hall at the end of the night. It was always pretty empty though.
