Rare Gilly Posted November 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2017 A good way to alienate all the British and Canadian clients by choosing an American name. It would not have been my choice.
Kwaj girl Posted November 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Perhaps they were looking for alliteration....now will "SSS" stand for "Seven Seas Splendor" or will it be "Seven Seas Society"?
2onboardagain Posted November 15, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Of all the possible unique names that they could have chosen, they chose to use a name already used by Carnival Cruise Line? Yuck!
Kwaj girl Posted November 15, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Of all the possible unique names that they could have chosen, they chose to use a name already used by Carnival Cruise Line? Yuck! Mudhen Posted November 15, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Personally, not a fan. Has been used already. And I have to agree with the post that said "with all of the possible, original names out there....." I find it somewhat of letdown.....Oh well...the way things are going, we'll never be able to afford to sail on it!

Rare WesW Posted November 15, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Laura our cruise critic community manger linked the CC news release in first thread above concerning the new ship name: https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=8215 Here is cruise news release announcing the Seven Seas Splendor: https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/18115-regent-names-new-ship-seven-seas-splendor.html
Rare forgap Posted November 15, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Ho hum.....I was hoping for something more poetic. I submitted The Mirador ( Webster’s definition: a turret, window, or balcony designed to command an extensive outlook ) - I thought it described both the ship and the hearts of most cruisers. irishwitchy Posted November 15, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Sounds rather stuffy, would have liked to see a more innovated name, but I'm sure it will be splendid!
2onboardagain Posted November 15, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 15, 2017 And don't forget RCCL's Splendour of the Seas  You are right! I forgot about that one. Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern (of a lack of creativity).

Bellaggio Cruisers Posted November 15, 2017 #16 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Not a fan. There were so many creative names on CC. Splendor like in sugar substitute? Nah--- Sheila
Silver Sweethearts Posted November 15, 2017 #17 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Out of curiosity, will there be any mention or notice paid of how many (and who) chose the name "Splendor"?
mikenbob Posted November 15, 2017 #18 Share Posted November 15, 2017 So upset that they did not pick my submission...The WhatevOR! Perhaps if I had spelled it Whatevour it would have favored better. :-)
Onkel_Ken Posted November 15, 2017 #19 Share Posted November 15, 2017 I just hope the builders of the new ship Splendor will consider watching out for vibration, whistling doors, and sight lines in the theater as well as other issues they faced on their previous ships. I'm sure it will be splendid!!!
Travelcat2 Posted November 15, 2017 #20 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Now let's wait and see if they actually get the new ship added to the website before it launches... ;p The name is already on the website (not sure what happens if you click on it). I do appreciate that the name is spelled correctly. The reason that I like the name so much is that the frontrunner a few months ago was the Adventurer (a name I personally did not care for). Silver Sweethearts Posted November 15, 2017 #21 Share Posted November 15, 2017 If, according to Google, "Splendor" means the following, no wonder Frank must have liked it: " magnificence, sumptuousness, grandeur, impressiveness, resplendence, opulence, luxury, richness, fineness, lavishness, ornateness, glory, beauty, elegance "
Administrators Rare LauraS Posted November 15, 2017 Administrators #22 Share Posted November 15, 2017 So upset that they did not pick my submission...The WhatevOR! Perhaps if I had spelled it Whatevour it would have favored better. :-) OK, this made me laugh out loud! I don't know if I was even eligible to win, but I submitted "Vigor" Laura
Portolan Posted November 15, 2017 #23 Share Posted November 15, 2017 As Jackie noted, the Splendor is listed under ships on the Regent web site. Clicking it gets you to a page which mostly has a video (from the Navigator) of the ship naming and sweepstakes winners. Note the way I worded that. According to the video, there was no requirement that you submit the winning entry. Just that you submitted an entry ending in "er" or "or." I don't think that was clear, not to me at least. So the winners (two individuals and one TA) were apparently just picked at random from among all the submitters. So, on the one hand, we all had a chance regardless of our entries, but on the other hand those who submitted the actual name chosen had only the same chance of being a winner. FloridaGirl1962 Posted November 15, 2017 #24 Share Posted November 15, 2017 I sent the name "Splendor" as my choice. I am ready to receive my free trip! ;) I am curious how many of us did send in the name "Splendor"? I haven't heard from Regent yet, though...... I'll keep my phone ready. :) Happy and safe travels to all!! Mary
CruisetheCs Posted November 15, 2017 #25 Share Posted November 15, 2017 And all this time I thought if the Regent marketing department had a hand in picking the name the winner would be the Seven Seas Exaggerator :D
