I am taking my first cruise on Royal after nearly 20 on Celebrity. Can someone please explain in better detail that the RCCL website the Diamond level benefits?

Is there any free laundry or dry cleaning?

Is there any any amount of free internet?

What lounge are Diamond level able to use? I am confused between the Diamond and Concierge. Also, what drinks are free during the nightly happy hour?

Thanks to all.

The nightly happy hour for Diamond level varies by ship. Can you say what ship you are taking and the approximate sail date?

You didn't mention what ship?

For ships with a Diamond Lounge, the free drinks include standard bar drinks, but not martinis, etc. Bloody Marys, booze & soda, wine, beer. I'm curious as well if anyone has gotten blended drinks or anything more adventurous.

If you ship has just a diamond event, it's free wine & beer, with 25% off anything else.

Having recently cruised on the Mariner of the Seas, I can confirm:

No free laundry...

30 minutes per person free internet

There is a Coupon Book (two in the cabin) with a number of mostly useless coupons...there may have been one for some sort of laundry discount--I don't recall...a free specialty coffee...discount on Tux rental...a bingo extra card deal...some Casino match play and a free spin on a slot...etc.

The Concierge Lounge is for Suite Passengers...

Diamonds get the Diamond Lounge--which, at last check is now on MOST ships...

If your ship does not yet have a Diamond Lounge, the drinks are at another venue as an "event" and limited to wine, champagne and a discount on mixed drinks...

With the Diamond Lounge (which was VERY NICE on Mariner, BTW), there is a menu of available mixed drinks...similar to the Elite drink menu on Celebrity...open from 5:00 to 8:30...EVERY NIGHT (They did not close it on Mariner on nights when they had the Captain's party--or even on Sailaway night!)

The Diamond lounge also has appetizers and a free capucchino/espresso/latte machine which is available all day...

On Mariner, the two bar servers also mixed the drinks...I didn't notice them doing anything out of the ordinary ...or having a blender...I just drink Jack and Diet...My wife Cosmos or wine...and my daughters were drinking wine with an occasional simple mixed drink...

Unless things have changed since December, the Diamond Event includes free wine, champagne, fountain soft drinks, and 25% of anything else. Beer was not provided free to us in December at Explorer Diamond Event.

You're correct, the nightly Diamond event does not include free beer.

Still waiting to see what ship and sailing the OP is on.

Concierge Lounge is for Suite guests,Pinnacle and D+ members.

Diamond Lounge is for D members.

If it is a Diamond Event...a lot depends on the ship and the passengers. At our D event, some CL passengers overflowed to the D Event area. A suite passenger ended up in at the D event the second night of our cruise and flashed his card and made it known he was to get free drinks....the rest of the cruise...free drinks for us too! Not sure if the waiters extended that to everyone...but we were regulars and they refused to take our sea pass and charge us for drinks after the 2nd night! :) Yes, they got a really nice tip!

I guess I got a couple of things wrong :o. I have not seen martinis served. I'm a bit of a newbee in the lounges rather than the events, and was a bit afraid to ask for anything too complex. Everyone I observed was drinking simple mixed drinks.

Wine/champagne...same thing to me.

No beer? I find that amazing that wine is included but not beer. Seems like cheap beer costs less than the cheap wine. I'm not a beer drinker, but I made an assumption. You know what happens when one assumes ;)

Make sure you call Royal and enroll in the Crown and Anchor program. All you will need is your Captain's Club membership number.Your status from Celebrity does not automatically transfer over.

We had the Diamond event on Navigator some yrs ago after Diamonds were excluded from the Lounge., It included cheap wine, beer & trail mix and was held in a card room...not worth returning..what a big difference it was from before.:(

Looking forward to something much better when we try Oasis...:D

On our last Mariner cruise (Jan, 2013), my sister and I were booked in a Grand Suite - yeah!! It was beautiful!!! (and now we are hooked:rolleyes:). We both had gold cards and went to the CL. It was crowded and stuffy, and I must say the people there were not in the least bit friendly. Since I am Diamond, we decided to try the Diamond Lounge. Well, lo and behold, the folks there were soooooo friendly, the bartenders courteous, and the appetizers delicious! They were so good, as a matter of fact, that we were too full for dinner!! Now, I will say, my sister is not Diamond, but the wonderful Diamond Lounge concierge keyed her gold card to allow her entrance to the DL. (Please don't flame me.) He might have had pity on us because the first night we attempted to enter the DL, for some reason my diamond (and gold card) did not work. While we were standing there trying to figure out what to do, a "lady" came out of the lounge, and we attempted to hold the door. She looked at us like we were lepers, and said "Not everyone can go in there.....they have their RULES, you know." Well, I reported this inappropriate behavior to the DL, within 10 minutes both our gold cards were keyed to allow us to enter.

We are also Diamond by way of Celebrity Elite and have a question about the Diamonds in December promotion. Assuming that RCCL will do the same double points offer in 2013, do those of us who are only classified as Diamond due to our Celebrity status (and not RCCL points) qualify for double points on December 2013 cruises?

Diamond Lounge/Diamond Event is also for D+ and PC Members along with Suite Guests who are D/D+/PC. :D

Didn't you feel the least bit guilty?

I think you underestimate the incredible ability of the folks who buy the house wine to find really really cheap wine. Think less than $1 a bottle. So, 4 glasses of wine in a bottle costs them less than $0.25 per glass.

Actually No. When we ordered the drinks we expected to pay for them. We had no idea why they did not take our sea passes. We did not order "premium" drinks every night. When we did order them again, our sea pass was out and again we expected to pay. I am not going to feel guilty when I am not asking them to give me a free drink.

When cruising on RCCL, the points only count toward Crown and Anchor...If they're running the December Double Points deal, then those double points go to your Crown and Anchor total...

Even though you may have Diamond status on RCCL due to your Celebrity Elite status, the RCCL points still mean something as toward the higher level Crown and Anchor categories...

For example, let's say someone has never been on an RCCL cruise but they're Elite on Captains Club...Their status on Crown and Anchor would be considered "Diamond", but they would still have ZERO points...So, after that first cruise, they would still be only 7 points (or mnore if in a suite or a longer cruise or a December double special)...They would still need to get to 175 points based on RCCL cruises alone to get to Diamond Plus...

We've only had the pleasure of the lounge on our last couple cruises. It was events prior to that. I think I enjoy the specialty coffee machine as much as I do the happy hour :D

Maybe just to consolidate some clarification on CL & DL. We were on Freedom last Oct for two weeks in a GS. We had access to both the Cl & DL. The CL on Freedom is in the center of the ship and has no windows, while the DL was on Deck 13? and did have windows. Consequently we usually went to the DL.

Just got off of Brilliance for two weeks and it does not have a DL. Diamond level cruisers can go to the Starquest lounge on Deck 13 and get free wine and champagne (don't believe it includes beer) but a discount for all other drinks - I think 20 or 25%. Don't know if the Radiance Class gets a DL when they go through refurb.
