keithm Posted January 5, 2014 #151 Share Posted January 5, 2014 You and I should join forces. If it gets bad enough I am the one that will say what others are thinking, but won't say themselves. See you on the 8th on the Eclipse. I have no problem admonishing others for bad behavior. You just need to do it with some decency.
steveweese Posted January 5, 2014 #152 Share Posted January 5, 2014 About 4 or 5 years ago we stayed on the ship one port day to enjoy some quiet pool time. Was in the pool by myself when a lady with about a 16 month with only a diaper on bailed in the pool. It kinda freaked me out and I got out and pointed it out to a pool attendant. He talked to her and she got out and made a call on her phone. After the call she got right back in. Pool guy had left so I called guest services and after 30 minutes nothing happened. So no big deal I lost! Saw the lady next day with her husband. I lost because she was the Captains wife.

The difference is that Crystal told her to take her baby out of the pool. She was really, really made, but was never allowed to bring her baby into the pool the rest of the cruise. It shouldn't matter who a baby belongs to, rules are rules.

20pluscruises Posted January 5, 2014 Author #156 Share Posted January 5, 2014 This is racist. Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk In all fairness to the posters response... I posted that this family pretended to not speak any English UNTIL they asked my DH and myself a not so nice tone "How long have you been out here? When are you leaving? We need more than one lounge chair near the pool and this is the only one empty." My response..."Not right now, but we won't be too much longer" Their rude response ..."Well, I guess we'll just have to watch for you to leave then" AND within minutes they changed the babies diaper right there on the lounger next to me. When I asked that they please take the baby downstairs to change the diaper......they pretended to not understand a single word of English. Yes, I did tell the staff and security about the diaper changing. Apparently, it didn't make a darn bit of difference because... they changed the babies (2 babies) on the loungers the next day...I took a picture. On day three when they started to change the babies AGAIN I stood up right next to the lounger and pointed the camera...only then did they ask the babysitters to take the children downstairs. I had had enough!

obnurse Posted January 5, 2014 #158 Share Posted January 5, 2014 I know you are right to be frustrated, as these stories are all so frustrating, but I probably would fume to myself and not say anything, since I don't want to cause sea rage....you know, like road rage only at sea. I'm only half joking. I got mad at a lady once where a huge group had been chair hogging, then went over to the tables poolside and hogged over there, all the while still saving their loungers. So, in the end, I got frustrated and she won anyway. What was it really worth in the end?

However, where you say "they pretended to not understand a single word of English," I personally believe that spookwife's inclusion of the phrase 'no speekee engrish' crosses the line. Where I can sit in quiet on a clean towel and relax. Au contraire, there was very little relaxation on certain days in there due to people falling asleep and snoring loudly, also the husband and wife who were bickering with each other, loudly, also the ladies who decided to carry on conversations in full voice. Nope. Disappointed about the non-quietness some days  Edited January 5, 2014 by 4cats4me

Nope. Disappointed about the non-quietness some days  As far as snoring goes just do a loud fake sneeze. It wakes up my husband when he snores on occasion. There are several different steam rooms. I'm sure I'll find a quiet one. Anything is better then incontinent, baby diaper or I'm just to lazy to get up and go pool or hot tub water. stratixman Posted January 14, 2014 #167 Share Posted January 14, 2014 "Pools** Guests must be fully toilet trained to enter the pools or whirlpools" So exactly how does Celebrity go about verifying that a guest is fully toilet trained? Do they administer tests? Require a demonstration? Just accept the parents' word on it? LOL. This whole discussion got me remembering that great movie Caddyshack with Bill Murray. It planted an idea in my brain. Thinking on my upcoming cruise I will pack a few Baby Ruth candy bars so I can surreptitiously slip them into the pool when I see some moron isn't following the rules about no diaper clad rug rats permitted. That ought to clear the place out quickly and get the attention of cruise staff who should have been enforcing the rules.

cruisegirl1 Posted January 15, 2014 #170 Share Posted January 15, 2014 We recently had a conversation with the Elite Host about this very issue. Celebrity knows it is an issue but will not do anything to offend the person who puts the child in the pool. We saw many diapered babies/toddlers in the pool. The best was the one parent who took the diaper off, put a swimsuit on the baby and took the baby in the pool. I guess by those measures, she was not breaking any diaper rules. Perhaps having to close a pool ( or both pools) or an afternoon, will get the message across to those who insist on taking a diapered or non-potty trained child in the pool. Scrappytraveller Posted January 15, 2014 #171 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Just off the Eclipse. Several diapered tots in the pool, children in hot tubs by themselves, even one kid in the solarium hot tub and pool. Only saw one staff member intervene one time, and that was because a woman grabbed him and told him what was going on with 3 unruly brats in a hot tub. One day I watched as one mother-of-the-year actually left her toddler in a hot tub alone, and her young daughter in the deep pool, while she went down to her cabin to get goggles for her kid. Guess we're all supposed to be lifeguards on our vacation.

This is absolutely something that needs immediate enforcement of policy/rules going forward for the safety of all future Celebrity guests. alaskagirl3 Posted January 15, 2014 #173 Share Posted January 15, 2014 When pools and hot tubs are maintained properly, there should not be a problem with urine. Urine is gross, but it is sterile. It really is not a big deal. Have you ever been to a community pool packed with kids? Who goes to the bathroom? Hardly anyone, and they are the big kids! Poop needs to be contained because there are health issues associated with that thus a swim diaper is used. People of any age who do not wipe properly can introduce fecal matter into the pool. Boogers anyone? Hot tubs--germs multiply rapidly in those. They also clean out your skin cells nicely! All that foam?? That is skin cells, lotion, make-up, sunscreen. You really have to stay on top of those chemicals. If any cruise line, hotel, spa, health club wanted to send a great cleanliness message, they would make it VERY clear that the chemical testing is taking place and chems are being added as needed. Shocking a pool or hot tub to kill germs can sometimes require no swimming for 24 hours. I don't mind babies/toddlers in pools--it's everyone else who scares me!! Enjoy the pool, it's ok. :)

CanWeGoYet? Posted January 15, 2014 #175 Share Posted January 15, 2014 I see the argument raised fairly often that urine is sterile. Bladder infections & cystitis are fairly common. The colony count has to be fairly high to count as an infection, but this is hardly a rare condition. It's clear that with many grown adults sitting in the pool for hours on end, enjoying liquid refreshments & not getting out of the pool - what must be going on. It isn't just the babies and toddlers. With the number of people who use that pool or hot tub daily, it's a good bet some of them have a fair amount of bacteria in their urine. The more I think about this aspect, the ones who harbor some sort of skin colonization of staph or even MRSA and may not even know it, to say nothing of the folks who get in with a blister on their foot - yikes. It may be safer just to avoid the hot tubs & pools entirely.
