I don't "get" wristlets. Please enlighten me!

Okay, I see the advantage (one) of a wristlet, you can hang it on your wrist and not have to carry it in your hand. That's where it ends for me.

To me, having it dangle there, would be an annoyance (I think) and would be in the way. And what do you with one when you sit down to eat?

I'm clearly missing something so 'splain me what you all love about them!

Basically, I use it in situations in which many would use a clutch purse. But unlike a clutch, it can free up my hands if necessary. I've used them so much, that I really don't notice it dangling from my wrist. When dining, I'll often just leave it on my lap, or tuck it on the chair beside me. I generally carry very large purses, and wristlets are great for travel or dining out or something when i don't want to carry my usual Mary Poppins bag.

Sorry, I can't enlighten you because I feel exactly the same.

They would annoy me, what do you do when you need to use the hand that your wristlet is attached to? And don't even get me started with the concept of dancing! When I think of wristlets I automatically visualise someone dancing around and continuously whacking their head and other people with their bag :p

When you sit down, take it off your arm, and put it in your lap!

I don't get it, either....I can "free up" my hands with a very small shoulder purse! In places where I don't need the contents of my entire normal purse, I use a very small one....just large enough for a comb, tissues, lipstick...stuff like that. I have several that I take to places like concerts (where I might be wiggling around and dancing!) or on cruises, where you don't need your big old wallet!

I don't disagree with anything you guys have said. The vast majority of the time I use a shoulder bag, but sometimes I don't like something hanging off my shoulder, for whatever reason. And it's not like it's ATTACHED to my wrist. I can remove it as easily as I could remove any other type of bag, obviously. Very rarely do I let the wristlet just dangle. More often I am hanging onto it as if it were a clutch, but the strap happens to be around my wrist. Equal time it's tucked under my arm. It just depends. It's just a different way to carry a bag, like a crossbody vs. a regular shoulder purse. Same thing, different means of carrying. I use all types of bags.

I wouldn't dance with a wristlet any more than I would dance with a shoulder bag. But that's a funny picture!

Wristlets are just convenient for carrying very little. I don't often carry a handbag. My lifestyle is such that I'm never far from my car, so anything that I might need...lip balm, etc...I just keep in my car. My necessary items to carry around are my wallet and phone. If I don't have pockets to carry these things...then I like to use a wristlet as convenient "bag" for carrying few items. If I carry a shoulder bag...I have to put it cross body...I can't stand the feeling of being "off center" with one shoulder having a burden that the other doesn't...and sometimes...I get annoyed with the strap and the way it lays across the girls.

I don't ever carry a bag cruising...unless it's a tote for port days...my cruise wardrobe always has pockets or someway of slipping my sea pass card onto my person. I don't get the need for carrying anything else on a ship?

I also don't get it -- I thought I was the only one! I did happily wear my cruise/room card on my wrist, but I had a hole punched and attached it to my bracelet; it was more like a credit card on my bracelet rather than having a purse with a leash handle.
That would drive me nuts! A wristlet is just a handle, like the handles on any purse that's not a shoulder bag. I'd go nuts at anything being attached to my wrist like that. I'd want to scratch at it. Or knowing me, I'd probably forget the card was there and be looking all over for it. haha :p

I don't mind the very small cc sized ones where that is about all you can put in them and others where you actually wear them on your wrist like a cuff for the gym, running etc.,

To me what is being sold as wristlets these days is just a mini clutch bag with a loop to put it around your wrist.

I like carrying clutch purses when Walt and I go out for dinner. Some have chains to go over the shoulder, some have none, and others have a wrist strap. I will only take the ones with a shoulder or wrist strap out to dinner since I feel that they are a little more secure to me than a strapless clutch. On a ship, I don't care. I prefer the wrist strap clutch over the shoulder strap because I like the look of holding a clutch in your hand. Just my preference. I never leave it dangling off my wrist and I place it in my lap when we eat.

Here's a picture of how I hold it...not the best pic since I was attempting a low angle selfie with my iPhones.

I like the wristlet because most of my dresses, make that all, do not have pockets. I like to carry my sea pass and a little cash for the casino, and I hate to keep asking DH for it. During a meal, it is small enough to put on the table out of my way and anybody else's.

I don't use a purse at all on a cruise so they work for me. As a matter of fact I just ordered a couple from e-bay. They are beaded so a little dressier than the other ones I have.

My only two wristlets are very small, so not something that will go whacking others in the head. :D I pretty much use them for evenings on board ship (before, during, and after dinner)

.

That said, here's why I like them:

  1. I have sloping shoulders, so a shoulder bag never stays put. It comes down with a thump on my arm at the most awkward time, occasionally causing me to spill whatever I was holding in my right hand (a glass of wine, a plate of hors' douvres).
  2. A cross-body bag just looks "wrong" to me in the context of dressy or semi-dressy, which is when I use the wristlets.
  3. I can't stand "hugging" a clutch between my arm and my body with two hands full. Again, klutz that I am, I will generally get involved in a conversation and forget it's there, dropping it onto the floor. Then I've got to figure out what to do with what's in my hands before I can pick it up.

I consider it like a clutch. I take it off when seated and place it next to me or on my lap. I just don't really like the look of a cross body purse with a dressy or formal outfit. I also want something just big enough for my camera, lip gloss and s&s card.

I love the few wristlets that I have :-) .... I use a cane and like to hold my hubby's hand when we go for walks ( either at home or cruise) and that allows to have my purse and use my cane and still walk hand in hand :):):) ... For work I use a regular purse with a wristlet in it with my wallet so on break I just grab my wristlet :-)

I love my wristlet. Mine is slightly larger than my iPhone, and I can carry my phone, ID, and lipgloss without relying on my husbands pockets. If I'm just walking around (or dancing) I'm usually holding it in my hand with the strap around my wrist so that I don't accidentally drop it, but if I do need both of my hands it can dangle (usually by my elbow). I will usually place it on the table while dining since it's quite small.

I don't like the way a cross body bag looks on me either. For me a wristlet works.

I never used to carry a wristlet on my cruise. I would wear a lanyard around my neck with my card and carry my camera to dinner (I like to photograph the meal). However, since purchasing the wristlet my little pocket camera fits in there along with my card. I don't let it dangle from my wrist although I do wear it on my wrist. At dinner, it sits on the table in front of my plate and out of the way. I don't carry it with me at all times but if we are out and about around the ship, the card is in it and any receipts we get from the bar for drinks goes in there as well.

Pretty bag!!

But it is a very large wristlet. The few that I have are half that size. Just slightly larger than the palm of my hand, maybe 6" across. Yours looks like 12".

WOW...I know I started the other thread about going from a crossbody

to a wristlet but I didn't realize so many of you hated them:eek:

As for wear to put it? I use a "purse caddy" or a "purse hanger" whatever

you want to call it;)......the top stays on the top of the table

and the hanger part holds the strap of the wristle or whatever bag

you happen to be using. I have used these little gems for years:)

No need to keep your bag on your lap...........

Anyway, I guess it is like everything else in life.....some folks like

things and some folks don't....If I come back from my cruise and

decide I didn't like using my new wristlet? I will go back to using the

crossbody bags I have:)

I need to get a purser hanger...that would make life easier. :)

Have a great time on your cruise!

I use a wristlet throughout the school year, and I love it:

- I think of it as a "wallet on a string". It contains my money, credit cards, etc. and little else.

- It's small enough to slide into the tote bag I carry to school, whereas a larger bag is "too much". Car keys, lotion, phone and so forth all fit in the outer pocket of my school tote bag.

- When I stop at the grocery store after work, I leave the tote bag and bring just the wristlet into the store -- and since mine has a clip, I usually put the wristlet "down deep in the cart" and clip it to the cart, leaving my hands free. The first thing I put in the cart covers it, so I'm hands-free while shopping. To steal my wristlet, someone would have to reach into my cart, under the seat, move an item, and unhook the clip.

- When we go out to eat, if we're in a booth, it sits between me and the wall. If we're at a table, I have one of those little table-clips, and I hang it next to me.

- No, I wouldn't keep it around my wrist while eating or dancing. It isn't THAT small!

During the summer, though, I need more space in my purse, and I switch to a small-ish cross-body type bag that can also hold car keys, phone, lotion.
