Adding a little salt to the wound...

A short while ago, my calendar sent me a reminder to let me know I could check in for our flight home, from San Diego to Anchorage tomorrow night...

In other words, Johnny & I should have gotten off our the cruise this morning...

Celebrity Eclipse - 03/15/20 - Santiago, Chile to San Diego, CA...

Celebrity cancelled our cruise on the afternoon of 03/14/20.

The good news:  the peeps not allowed off the ship on 03/15/20 - made it to San Diego to disembark today.

They'd been on the ship for their cruise & ours...

Many had been on much longer.

Additional good news:   they hadn't been to a port in 15+ days and they were all healthy!!!

We wish them all Safe & Healthy Travels on-wards to their homes!

Cheers  --  Von & John

We’ve been following them.

Some were already part of our roll call, as they were to be on our cruise as well.

Others joined for the conversation - while they were sailing North to San Diego...

With many of the posts - it felt like we were there with them.

We wish them all a speedy, safe & healthy trip home!

Oops didn’t mean to make it sad…

We don’t currently have any cruises booked to look forward to...

But many others do & we are certainly looking for new ones!

Cheers to all…

Enjoy your countdown to your next Cruises!

Happy cruising

Our Veendam cruise was canceled so 140 days for the next one .

Sorry to hear that for two reasons,

the first is that you miss your trip agian,

the second is that it means this covid situation is still dragging on, and in some places getting much worse.

Hoping your next one is possible, I am not hopeful for my Baltic cruise in July.

We're not doing too well on the TA's as we were canceled twice and had to cancel the one on the Caribbean Princess . We think that HAL is being very cautious by delaying another month . Hopefully you will be able to make the Baltic in Summer and our TA in August will go .

Looking at the covid rates and deaths in the countries all around there, there is no significant flattening of the curve for them just yet, so I am not hopeful that their borders will be open again for tourism. Time will tell though.

Be honest. How many of you actually believe that you will be sailing in xxxxx days?  Mine is in 186 days and I'm already resigned to the fact that it won't happen.

I think you're a realistic.

They canceled the afternoon before? Assuming a fair number of you had already flown in, stayed in a hotel, had meals, did they reimburse you?

But at this point I would not book anything sailing within a year which did not come with 100% refund for cancellation.

And even that may be optimistic. (I've missed you.)

I hope you make it .   If I had already booked/paid for a cruise sailing in mid-July, I would have my fingers crossed.  But at this point I would not book anything sailing within a year which did not come with 100% refund for cancellation.

I am very doubtful at this stage, it is fully paid up as it was with a fly/ tour/stay/ cruise package, but if the countries are still closed to tourism, then the whole thing is off, not just the cruise.

I expect that there will be significant differences among countries’ reopening themselves.  Those heavily dependent upon cruise-based tourism will re-open sooner, while others might not at all.  I expect some Caribbean islands will be among the first.
