Is Royal transitioning concierge lounge into a suites only lounge?

Recommended Posts

Good point! Even the CL's on the Oasis and Allure would probably be a bit empty if they were only open to suites and Pinnacles.

Yes, absolutely true. With so many seats available, it would be quite lonely if there were only suite guests present.

Forget it! It's not happening. On the majority of RCCL ships, the CL would be empty for most of the night if it were available only to suite guests. This is especially true for the older ships which have limited suites and which do not attract higher end spenders.

I disagree with "most" and "empty" (including if "nearly" or similar were added). Though C&A members like their complementary drinks, suite passengers like them as well. And both like the appetizers during cocktail time. My observations have suggested a reasonably equal ratio.

It is the Pinnacles, D+ and D who show their loyalty by booking the older ships. Higher end cruisers tend to be attracted to the newest fad.

I will agree with this, but a lot depends on what you consider "older ships" (keep in mind that Jewel of the Seas is younger than the entire Voyager class ships).

I take it you have not seen any of the new Oasis deck layouts. When they were up it showed a small suite lounge, the lower level of the old CL functioning as new CL, and a replacement Diamond lounge on deck 4. My fantasy proposal was only for a ship with 3 lounges.

The lower level of the old CL was the only level in use. The upper level was only used for a specialty dining event.

Thus, status quo, no change!

Not completely true. During the day when the Chef's Table wasn't operating, folks with access to the CL could sit in the upper level (went there a couple of times). It was never obvious if it was only available to Chef's Table participants during that event, or if access will be available to regular CL guests when Wonderland is not serving (assuming that Wonderland will still occupy that space).

Lonely:confused:

There are 30 Gs

10 OS

Plus RS and all the loft suites, aqua suites and RFS

Even at double occupancy you are looking at over 100 passengers minimum.

Just GS would fill 60 seats min.

Maybe I need to update my definition of lonely:confused:

The point was that only the lower level was available during the peak 5:00 - 8:30 times. I see no basic change.

Agreed (based on what has been reported or leaked, but reserve the right to change my mind if everything we have discovered so far turns out to be junk).

he, he...I ran the numbers on Grandeur last night, just out of curiosity. The CL has a capacity of 32, and there are 22 full suites, which equals 44 people if you assume double occupancy. So, even on the smaller, older ships, there is not enough capacity to service just the suites. It is a good thing that all the suite guests do not all show up at the CL at the same time, or it would be standing room only :)

BTW, the DL has a capacity of 38 people, so neither lounge is very big.

Actually I'm probably more unhappy with passengers not drinking in Schooner during trivia. You have a nice day as well. See you onboard. ;)

Is this a joke?

We attend morning trivia, often held at 9 or 10 AM. I am not even sure the bar is open at that hour. Regardless I am not having a cocktail just because RCCL decides to hold an event in a lounge. There is a bar at the pool. Are you unhappy that passengers watching the belly flop contest are not drinking? Bingo has been held in one of the larger lounges. Do all passengers who play bingo have to order a drink?

Here is the real kicker - I visit the CL or DL and sometimes don't even order a drink!

It was somewhat sarcastic, but I do feel bad for servers losing opportunities. Pool not the same because it is far removed From bar and bingo is obviously generating revenue in its own right

The cruise lines do not tend to schedule trivia during busy bar times. Instead, trivia tends to held in mornings and afternoons when relatively few passengers are drinking and relatively few servers are on duty. If trivia were not scheduled in Schooner that hour, fewer people likely would be in that venue; the most passengers in there might just be reading or conversing rather than drinking. I am not convinced servers would have more opportunities to earn tips in that alternate scenario.

I rarely go to morning trivia anymore but always get a drink for the 4:30 and I would for 7:00, but usually at dinner or casino. :o

Have never felt the need or even felt pressured to order a drink in a bar or any area of the ship if I am there to enjoy an RCCL sponsored activity or listen to a performer, or even if I want to sit and relax. Every venue is open for all passengers to enjoy.

That's because the servers are polite and professional.

Can't find fault with your figures or logic but notice on your signature block that you have not sailed on the Oasis or Allure. The CL's on these ships are significantly larger than on the other ships.

There are, of course, a few cruisers who hang out in lounge from the time it opens until it closes but most do not. in reality some suite guests do not use the lounge at all, some only use it a few nights, some only pop in for a quick before diner drink and that early, late and my time dining all occur during the cocktail period. It would be extremely unlikely that all 100 would be in the lounge at the same time.

Say 20% don't use the lounge or only spend a brief time there, that leaves 80 people and if 60% used the lounge at any given time that would be 48 people or about 12 tables. Now agreed that wouldn't make anyone lonely/confused but nevertheless the lounge would be far from capacity.

This is a true statement - I visited CL on three occasions on Grandeur, and the largest number of people I saw in there was maybe 12 - but I was never there for cocktail hour as I do not drink.

I too understand where you are coming from. Whilst I am yet to sail on Oasis or Allure, although I am booked, I am aware the lounges are considerably larger. The way I look at it is the larger the ship more suites and hence the larger the lounges to accommodate such. No matter what size ship I have been on there have always been busier and quieter times in the lounges.

My point was if there are only 20 suites on a ship there are less available people to utilize the lounge. With a high number of suites on the oasis and allure, whilst there may be the occasional quiet time, it is still likely to be used more in general. If it's quiet more room to spread out and less likely to feel cramped:D

Looking forward to experiencing all three lounges when we get to sail;)

Received a flyer from Royal which mentions he new "suite lounge". Flyer states continental breakfast and cocktails available for suite guests as part of the new suite perks. Also mentions that California kitchen is available only to suite and Pinnacle guests. Foes not mention that suite lounge will be available to Pinnacles, so we shall see!

If you read the new for suite guests section on page 2 it says Pinnacle can. Not sure if this is the same flyer. Are you able to post? Did not see anything about cocktails?

There is a link to a flyer at: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=44426971#post44426971

Which has a bullet in the "New for Suite Guests": "Pinnacle members are invited to enjoy these exclusive amenities". So this does suggest that the Suite lounge (despite the text on the deck plans) that the entire space is available to Pinnacles as well.

I wonder, will it be open on embarkation day for lunch?
