jmrothermel Posted November 28, 2014 #26 Share Posted November 28, 2014 I must admit I do not like the new system of having the sea pass cards in the door/room on embarkation. I also miss not having the room number , minus the deck level, on the Quantum sea pass cards. I can never remember the number for the first couple of days!!! The room number was printed on our cards last week. Hopefully they continue to do so. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

InCruiseMode Posted November 28, 2014 #29 Share Posted November 28, 2014 But the initial room keys are outside of your cabin. Nothing stops anyone from going up, taking the room key from the little area by your cabin # and going in your cabin....NOTHING
iheartbda Posted November 28, 2014 #30 Share Posted November 28, 2014 I can just see someone switching keys for a better cabin and INSISTING that Royal Caribbean made the mistake, they should keep the better cabin, or at the very least, get some type of compensation.
Rare John&LaLa Posted November 28, 2014 #31 Share Posted November 28, 2014 Excuse the misspelling... so much writing I stopped caring. As someone explained. You board with your printed boarding pass. Oh & How Dare I Forget To Mention... The room turned out to not have passengers... they were contractors from the ship yard... Meyer Wreft... On board fixing things that needed fixing and repairs. So they just assigned them a room that belonged to a paying passenger. There is your kicker. Actually that bothers me less as an outside observer, than putting another passenger in the room Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app

Rare LMaxwell Posted November 28, 2014 #33 Share Posted November 28, 2014 What a BS procedure they've cooked up for distributing sea pass/wow bands. For your trouble I'd be demanding at least a 50% future cruise credit. Not charging you at Chops was literally the absolute least they could have done. SenatorsFan Posted November 28, 2014 #35 Share Posted November 28, 2014 What an awful way to start a cruise. I am so sorry that you had to go through all that. I hope at least that there were no problems with the rest of your short time on board. Clarea Posted November 28, 2014 #36 Share Posted November 28, 2014 (edited) What a fiasco.... It really seems like a terribly flawed system. Although, I suppose it's not much different than getting assigned seats in a theater. Unless someone else decides to steal your room. So, I wonder if your room was taken accidentally by that couple? Of course, your names would be on the keys, so maybe they decided to upgrade themselves? LOL! I think it is worse, because not only can someone get into your room, they can use your SeaPass card to buy things. It's like they took a small task away from the check-in agents and gave a bunch of potential problems to Guest Services. MADflyer Posted November 28, 2014 #37 Share Posted November 28, 2014 Another factor was that due to problems on the website the 6 months prior to my Quantum sailing, I did not pre-purchase my beverage package. They wanted $184 for RR in advance and $152 onboard. When I tried to purchase it directly after embarkation they needed the Seapass Card to complete the purchase. Cabins were not open until 1 PM as usual. When I later went back with just my WOW band, thinking that was a Seapass replacement, I was told I needed to produce the actual Seapass, which I had left in the room wall holder. They were just as surprised to see that maiden TA Seapass cards did not have cabin numbers.

All point of sale units on Quantum do bring up a photo prior to the purchase is complete. Even the tablets when used for checking in for shows and complementary and paid dining venues bring up a photo for each guest. Quantum is designed so that the cabin corridors are not accessible, while still keeping all public areas open to newly embarked passengers. I think the process of distribution of Seapass and WOW bands is a housekeeping duty now. The 138 Cabin Stewards have gained added responsibility on Quantum. nycruiser80 Posted November 28, 2014 #39 Share Posted November 28, 2014 Wow, this seapass card thing may speed up check in it opens another can of worms. I was on this sailing too and two cabins by mine also had no keys on the door and the people were confused. They asked me how I got into my room. I loved the Quantum but Royal needs to really work out the kinks. Feel bad for the poster.

Does this mean that newly-embarked passengers can't purchase anything (like drinks), since they can't yet get to the corridors and thus their seapass cards? So if you happen to board the ship at 11:30 AM, and you can't access your seapass card until 1:00 PM, how can you buy anything onboard before you get access to your cabin and the card? Also, what is the point of the WOW band if you can't use it to purchase?
pmkejk Posted November 28, 2014 #42 Share Posted November 28, 2014 Your story is so sad. RCCL robbed you of your vacation. I am not sure how you can be jerked around for 6 hours of a short 2 day cruise. RCCL owes you a full refund for the five of you. Your ordeal not only effected you, but you siblings as well. When you write to the powers that be (and I hope you do), I would put in writing exactly what I expect for compensation. This was wrong. When I sail on Monday and if something like that happens I will stand at guest services until the hotel manager arrives and escorts me to my cabin. Please let us know if you get any resolution to this.

dacsmom Posted November 28, 2014 #44 Share Posted November 28, 2014 That sounds like a horrible experience, I hope the second day was better. All the beds are together now, it doesn't matter what you request. Just leave a note for the cabin steward and they separate them. It is supposed to make cabin turnover quicker, having the rooms all the same.
Big_G Posted November 28, 2014 #45 Share Posted November 28, 2014 It sounds more like those contractors didn't vacate their cabin in a timely fashion. On a two day cruise there's no opportunity to make it up to the OP without some kind of refund.

They will give a future cruise credit, which after this experience I wouldn't blame OP for not wanting to use. I was given a 20% future cruise credit for an issue that I don't think was as bad as OP's, hence why I said earlier they should demand at least 50%. OP should call their credit card company too. They didn't get what they had paid for. The credit card company may be able to assist in some way. Edited November 28, 2014 by LMaxwell
MADflyer Posted November 28, 2014 #47 Share Posted November 28, 2014 I heard that you are supposed to be able to use the actual 'Set Sail Pass' barcode that you board the ship with to then make purchases. What I encountered onboard with the drink packages was that this was not the case. They actually wanted the actual Seapass card to complete my purchase. These descriptive posts can get so long, but I was later able to find out that those 'in the know' on my sailing were actually getting drinks for free due to the problems being encountered, but nobody bothered to tell me that in my 3 attempts to buy the package that day prior to having succeeding later in the day. I am sure this issue will or has been resolved, but I was surprised they had not thought this through even to this level at that point.
Clarea Posted November 28, 2014 #48 Share Posted November 28, 2014 (edited) ...I was surprised they had not thought this through even to this level at that point. My thoughts too. It's almost like these people are making these signficant changes and are not at all familiar with being a passenger on a cruise ship.
