Flatbush Flyer Posted July 14, 2015 #27 Share Posted July 14, 2015 Most of the people mentioned so far have been working on the ship, entertainers, lecturers etc, any just having a cruise. As many who try to mix travel business and pleasure do, the Pepin family is actually on vacation celebrating Jaques' 80th birthday. Of course, as the executive chef of Oceania, he is performing some professional duties.
SoCal Cruiser78 Posted July 14, 2015 #28 Share Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) I have always wondering if very famous celebrities are able to cruise and enjoy themselves without being mobbed for autographs and picture requests... I'm guessing most own or charter private yachts, as they do private planes these days. No TSA or potential stalkers to deal with. It has been years since I've seen a celebrity flying commercially, and I used to see them with some frequency. I once sailed with a retired local television host/anchor. She sat at our table in the MDR, but nobody approached her when we were together. She had been off the air for awhile at that point, so perhaps nobody recognized her. k2excursion Posted July 14, 2015 #30 Share Posted July 14, 2015 In 2007 on the Valor, Richard Simmons. He was actually working with some people, a cruise to lose. But he wasn't working for Carnival. It was his own thing, just on a cruise ship, and they had designated some places & times for his group to meet. He was staying on our floor, and we got to meet him & talk with him a couple times. He was very friendly.

I use to work with somewhat big acts so when I do see them in public and nobody realizes its them I tend to leave them alone because that starts a domino effect. I'm guessing only "B" stars might be on cruise ships and I'm also assuming that they would avoid public areas. Most big names will charter a ship like Kid Rock does every year or like Gronk is doing. kdeans1010 Posted July 14, 2015 #36 Share Posted July 14, 2015 Ron Glass from the old Barney Miller TV show was on the Elation a few years ago. Really nice guy. Had lunch with him. http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt25/welldone60/Elation%2007/CaboCruise025.jpg I would've freaked. Shepard Book. Okay so this is one of those crazy stories that I can't believe wasnt a bigger deal than it was, and whenever I tell it- part of me doesn't believe it. In July of 1991 I went on a cruise through the Hawaiian islands, this cruise was based around seeing the last full eclipse of the 20th century. It was crazy with a lot of lectures. I was 10 years old. Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon, was on the boat and friends with my grandpa. So I have a ton of pictures in a box with 10 year old gold lamè dress, my 10 year old cousin with a clip on tie, and the first man on the moon... That's normal right? CPT Trips Posted July 14, 2015 #38 Share Posted July 14, 2015 Ozzie Guillen was on the Victory with us. He was still the manager of the White Sox at the time. We drank and gambled with him in the casino every night of the cruise! He was super nice. Seems like that should/could have cost him some kind of rap on the knuckles from the commissioner.

As long as he wasn't betting on baseball what's the beef? Don't sports figures go to Vegas? Just wondering.
SuiteTraveler Posted July 14, 2015 #40 Share Posted July 14, 2015 I have always wondering if very famous celebrities are able to cruise and enjoy themselves without being mobbed for autographs and picture requests. Looking forward to any other stories :) Yes they are. I was in the The Haven on an NCL ship with someone who is world famous and had several bodyguards onboard with him and his family as well as personal staff - I don't want to mention who as they are frequent guests on NCL. He and his family were very nice and mostly stayed in The Haven or exited the ship via back elevators with the concierge or butler to go on private tours. Some family members would venture into the public rooms of the ship from time to time unrecognized. Their security people memorized who we were on day 1 of the cruise and never bothered us. We treated the VIP and his family like anyone else. My family has a long history of interacting with various VIPs, so it was nothing new to us. He seemed more interested in our lives than we were in his. Maybe he liked it that we didn't make a big deal about who he was or ask for autographs or photos. We never told anyone else on the cruise who was in the Haven and still won't say. So their secret is safe with us. A funny aside, our Cruise Critic group was mad because we wouldn't bring them into The Haven on the Cabin Crawl. I hadnt put my cabin on the list for the cabin crawl in the first place, but I had intended to bring them up if I could. But I couldn't. I couldn't say why not, so they decided I was a snob and were rude to me for the rest of the cruise. LOL!

Lambertus Posted July 15, 2015 #45 Share Posted July 15, 2015 We had a lot of fun with Mark Childress who we actually did not know who he was at that time, on our TA with Crystal. Also the Tommy Dorsey band was performing and the band members were hanging out with us in the pool area during the day.
domfrontqueen Posted July 15, 2015 #46 Share Posted July 15, 2015 On an eastbound TA on QM2 several years ago Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster were fellow passengers. What a charming couple they mixed with everyone and always had a smile. We saw Rod walking on the promenade deck every day just chatting to anyone who went up to him. Banjo an Posted July 15, 2015 #47 Share Posted July 15, 2015 We were told when eating in the Todd English restaurant on the QM2 that Rod Stewart had sat at our table last trip, and apparently performed while on board. We also missed Roger Moore on the Azamara Journey.
TC1957 Posted July 15, 2015 #48 Share Posted July 15, 2015 Charles Duke Jr. was on our first cruise. Most will not know him (Google might help you). I recognized him as he and James Irwin spoke at a men's church retreat I attended several years before and I had the pleasure of sharing a table with him a couple of times in addition to hearing him speak. I will give you a hint on why I consider him (them) famous...they are two of only twelve to do something.
