How to carry Seapass & almost last minute questions!

Recommended Posts

I usually wear mine on a lanyard. I have the small plastic pouch for it. I carry my young children's passes too. I also take with my a Vera Bradley Shoot From the Hip bag. Enough for the compass, sea passes, lip balm, and something else small if needed.

I purchased a "SWISS GEAR" pouch that has three compartments with Velcro fasteners. It holds my Sea Pass card, receipts and can also hold a Passport or ID. Model number is WJ 6184 so a search on Amazon may find it. It has an expandable lanyard long enough to place around the neck or waist.

Here are a few things we always take:

highlighter, pen, small notepad, votive lights(from the Dollar Store-use them in the bathroom as nightlights), a few plastic clips or clothespins, sunscreen, lip balm with SPF of 45 or more, a hat, some OTC meds, like tylenol, pepto bismal, and maybe Bonine.

On our last cruise we also packed 1/2 bottle of Softsoap in the pump bottle. It was great having that in the bathroom! I am taking one on every cruise now!

Also, don't forget your 2 bottles of wine!

Don't know where you're boarding but when we boarded Oasis in Port Everglades Florida, they were selling lanyards in the terminal between where you check-in and the waiting area. You can also buy them at Walmart/Target/etc. If you go on the internet, you can get them in support of your favorite football team, etc. You might also consider some sort of wrist band with a clip on it. I didn't look closely at the kiosk selling the lanyards but I think they were selling the wrist bands too.

Just 3 short weeks until our first cruise for the honeymoon!

Congratulations!!

Question about seapass - how do people carry them around? Being female with no pockets (they need to make more dresses with pockets !) most of the time and the inordinate amount of time I plan on being in a bathing suit, I can't seem to figure out how not to lose my seapass. Do they give you a lanyard or should I bring my own? It would be great if they switch to bands like Disney World did - I absolutely loved those ... I can pay and swim! Also, do I have to carry my ID around for drinks or is my birthday on my seapass account (mid to late twenties and we get carded all the time. It will be a blessing in a few more years). I have seen many people wear them on lanyards. You can get them punched usually in the casino. I take a very small clutch for mine for the evening. During the day, I stick it in the pockets of my shorts or if at the pool in a little pocket inside my pool bag. For ports, I have a little pouch that I wear around my neck that holds my driver's license, sea pass card and money. Sometimes I will wear a fanny pack for port days if we're touring and I'm taking a lot of pictures. I still like to use my camera and I need extra batteries.

Also, I was listed as special diet because my doctor limits my gluten intake , but I am not allergic (if only I can figure out what is going on with my body... I also miss pizza). Will I be able to order off the normal menu in the dining room? Or does it work both ways in that others can't eat my food , and I can't order off theirs :-(. I told my travel agent this and he said that he still needs to list me as gluten free for the ship Most lines will have someone sit down with you the first day with menus and help you make choices for each meal, just let the maitre d' know and be sure to let your wait team know you need a gluten free menu.

I am beyond excited! Also, on tender ports (Belize), can we tender on/ off at any time or only at the docking /leaving times? Also, are the times listed for arrival of ship for tender or the arrival of you onto the land (itinerary says 9 to 6). Usually the local time, but some ships do stay on ship's time; they will let you know.

I've been following packing lists and it is a HUGE amount of stuff... does anyone have a short list of essentials ? One formal dress, shoes, jewlery; two pair of capris or casual pants with two tops for each and shoes for different nights; two swim suits (they don't dry very fast in your cabin); shorts and a couple of tops; flip flops; toiletries; camera & charger, phone charger, pool/beach bag; alarm clock; flashlight; small first aid kit; Tylenol/aspirin. For men, one suit or sport coat, pants for formal night, two ties, shoes; khakis and a couple of different cruise type shirts, swim suits. You really won't need as much as you think you will.

Thanks so much in advance! I've been reading these forums for so long, my husband jokes that I spent more time on cruise critic than I will on the ship!

You're already addicted and after the cruise you will be on here even more!

As for gratuities, it will be automatically charged each day to your sea pass card. You may tip extra at the end of the cruise to anyone you like. They have gratuity envelopes at Guest Services if you need them. I make my own thank you card with thank you in many different languages and put our extra tips in them for our steward and wait team.

I would assume your age is in the computer and when they swipe your card your age shows. On Carnival, it is, because my son, not quite 21, tried to purchase an alcoholic drink at a bar and the bar tender told him he could only purchase non-alcoholic drinks.

One tip, you can shower in the spa if you get claustrophobic in your cabin shower. I'm excited for you -- there is nothing like your first cruise.

Are lanyards a standard size? Yes To compare, is the sea pass the size of a credit card? Yes You would think that sports stores would have something to hold them that is waterproof. I think they do.

Check some sports stores, I have seen people wearing a hard plastic case around their necks that looks like it would hold your sea pass card and some money.

Also, don't forget your 2 bottles of wine!

But don't pack your wine in your checked bag; it must be carried on so they can inspect it. If you're a Thirty One fan, they make a bag that is made for bottles and is perfect for bringing your wine on board.

I use a plastic coil around my wrist for the seapass. They are designed, I think, for keys as they have a ring you can attach the seacard to. Just get a hole punched in it. Got 6 of them in a pack at the dollar store. Not as unsightly as the lanyards for dinner,

To the OP

I vary in how I carry my sea pass.

1. I have a mini purse wristlet that I slip it in.

2. Um sometimes use a lanyard.

3. Most often use DH pockets......when he is around.

Enjoy

If you search "ID lanyard" on Amazon, there are a bunch of them. Sea Pass is the same size as drivers license or credit card.

Thank you (and to other responses too of same subject).

Will look on Amazon or local sports store. A waterproof one will be very handy for the beach day in the ports or pool time.

Haha I love hands free! I hate wearing a purse (not one for lipstick) so I actually carry around a lanyard in my regular days (no, I do not wear it around my neck - that would make people assume I am a college freshman), but that has 3 sets of car keys and lots of other keys along with a little key chain ID wallet. But it is NOT waterproof and I would like to think that it is a little more fashionable (http://m.michaelkors.com/jet-set-travel-saffiano-leather-coin-purse/_/R-US_32F3STVP2L ). No need for cars nor those keys because we are on vacation woo!

Two weeks left!

I've been using a lanyard with a pocket to hold my seapass card. But before that, I wore a vest w/ zippers on my cold weather itineraries. With the warmer climates, I've invested in Scottevest Featherweight vest. Both have enough pockets to fit a seapass card, and whatever else you may need.

Magellans also has a nice lightweight travel vest.

WE like to board early and usually get on before 11:30. We have our swimsuits in our carry on and change in the spa. Usually this is one of the best alone times in the Hot tubs. Doors don't open for luggage/rooms until 1pm or later so bring things you need in carry on. A vote for the plastic lanyards. They are a little more but the gift shop onboard sells one that has a Royal Caribbean lanyard with plastic holder. Also thank you all for the tip on gluten free bread. Thought I was going to be limited for 2 rolls for the 3 day cruise. All my body can handle.

At least on the Radiance in Alaska, the seapass card was coded adult or minor. One of my friends on the cruise with me had to go to guest services because her card somehow got coded as if for a minor (no - she paid full adult fare and was part of an adult-only group), and even though she had her ID with her, they would not serve her alcohol until she got it re-coded.

So as long as it's not coded for a minor you're probably ok.

As for carrying it, I'm going to be using my DCL one they gave me on my last cruise. I'd rather wear that than a blue plastic coil around my wrist (sorry... no way those look like bracelets - and the card would just get in the way), and I'm not a lipstick person, so no need to carry that around.

Question about seapass - how do people carry them around?

I'm also female, and most of my shorts and all of my swim cover-ups have pockets. Dresses -- well, that's another story.

At dinner, I don't bother to bring my SeaPass; my husband carries our room key in his pocket, and we're always together anyway.

Instead of a lanyard, I suggest either a small wristlet OR one of those plastic spiral-y bracelets; if you don't have a plastic "sleeve" that'll hold your ship ID, go to Walmart's sporting goods department and buy a fishing license holder -- it's less than $2, waterproof, and just the right size to hold an ID.

Also, I was listed as special diet because my doctor limits my gluten intake , but I am not allergic (if only I can figure out what is going on with my body... I also miss pizza). Will I be able to order off the normal menu in the dining room?

At no point will anyone tell you you can't have any specific thing to eat. If your waiter knows you're gluten-free, he may warn you about a certain item, but it'll just be a polite warning so you don't make a mistake out of ignorance -- but they will give it to you.

I've been following packing lists and it is a HUGE amount of stuff... does anyone have a short list of essentials ?

Just use common sense. The #1 thing you must pack is your identification; without it, you won't be allowed to board the ship. Don't overpack clothes; choose basic shoes that'll match multiple outfits. Pack anything specific you might need for an excursion (for example, snorkeling gear). Beyond that, you really don't need much of anything.

We like tipping as we go in cash. This is in no way a method to skip or skimp on our gratuities.

My advice: Don't bother. They have a system set in place; no need to reinvent the wheel. Just pay the expected gratuities on the last evening, and it'll go to all the right people -- don't make them keep up with bits and pieces, don't make them add it to the pool only to see it divided out again. Easier for you, fair for all the workers who've served you: just use the system that's in place.
