cwbabe48 Posted February 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2016 Just spending our last night on the Silhouette. I have to say this is the first time after 10+ cruises that we have actually enjoyed playing slots etc in the casino. Thanks X! thebutlerdidit Posted February 28, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2016 Thanks for this reminder! I've been investigating other cruise lines and being smoke-free is imperative for me. The Celebrity smoking policy is the reason we chose them for our first cruise in 2010. As far as I know they still have the strictest smoking policy at sea. waterbug123 Posted February 28, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2016 This is one of the main reasons we choose Celebrity over RC when feasible now- the smoke-free casino. Oceania's policy is similar to Celebrity's (no indoor smoking) and we thoroughly enjoyed our Oceania cruise for that reason, and look forward to our next. jules815 Posted February 28, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 28, 2016 We'll be sailing with X for the first time in a few weeks, and I'd almost forgotten about this. Another thing to add to the list of things I'm excited about for this upcoming cruise!
pete_coach Posted February 28, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 28, 2016 I don't remember smoking being allowed in the Casino since we stared cruising Celebrity back in 2009. Even the allowable smoking areas have been getting smaller and smaller. I am a former smoker so I am not quite as evangelistic about smoking as others but I do understand . Karynanne Posted February 28, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 28, 2016 When the "non smoking" policy was changed fleet wide, there were many here on CC that stated that there would be a huge decline in numbers enjoying the Casino. I think the phrase used was, "smoking and gambling go hand in hand". Well, I haven't seen an empty Casino since that change. It's a pleasure to sit at a table, and not be engulfed in smoke, or have your clothing smell like smoke. IMHO, this was one of the best policy changes Celebrity has made. bookitdanno Posted February 28, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 28, 2016 Given that a very high percentage of folks do not smoke, I am amazed that Celebrity doesn't use this in their advertising. No smoking indoors on the ship would be huge for a lot of people.

I'll take a smoke-free gambling environment anyday!

Aquahound Posted February 28, 2016 #16 Share Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) We were on Solstice in Sept 2009 and there was no smoking in the Casino. We spent "some" time in there.....not big winners but not loser either, fortunately :) Same here. We were on Solstice in April 2009 and it was completely banned in the casino so if there was casino smoking when she launched, it must have only been for a very short time. However, I do remember one small portion of the Sky Lounge behind the stage designated as the only indoor smoking location. That didn't last long either because by the next time I sailed Solstice a year later, it was banned 100% inside. benjoon Posted February 28, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 28, 2016 We always allow ourselves a some money to play in the casino. We just did the Infinity with no smoking. We didn't spend much but Celebrity still took our money. Then we transferred to the Star Princess. They have smoking most nights except formal nights. We just couldn't enjoy ourselves and even on the nights of no smoking the smell still hung around. Princess didn't make any money from us because we couldn't spend very long in the casino. Looking forward to being back on Celebrity again.
jayoldschool Posted February 29, 2016 #18 Share Posted February 29, 2016 I got jumped on when I started a thread saying smoking wasn't "Modern Luxury", but mark my words... Celebrity will be non-smoking, probably before many think. Like many in this thread, I'm looking forward to it.

Northern Aurora Posted February 29, 2016 #21 Share Posted February 29, 2016 I don't remember smoking being allowed in the Casino since we stared cruising Celebrity back in 2009. ...... If my memory is correct non-smoking casinos were introduced in 2008. We did two cruises that year on the beloved but now gone Mercury. The first cruise was in the spring, and smoking was allowed on one side of the casino. The second cruise was in November (we spent Thanksgiving on the ship) and the casino was totally non-smoking. And I also remember the predictions that smoking would return to at least one side of the casinos. There were some folks claiming that "high authorities" at Celebrity were stating that the casinos were loosing so much revenue once they became non-smoking that smoking would return. Obviously we are still waiting ....

bogofman Posted February 29, 2016 #23 Share Posted February 29, 2016 We had two cruises on independence of the seas ( out of Southampton, UK) and there was no smoking in the casino, a year later ( 2014) did a similar cruise on Adventure and smoking was allowed in the casino, and this affected our enjoyment, as the smoke drifted out in to the schooner bar ( so could not visit there) and the spiral stair case acted as a chimney into the royal promenade. I understand smoking was always allowed in the casino on royal, so it must have changed when the ships sailed out of the UK, but this was changed when the ban on balcony smoking came into affect. The smoking policy on Celebrity is one of teh main reasons we like to sail with them.
