Recent photos of empress of the seas in dry dock

Not being able to filter the water seems like a big issue to me.

Many ships, due to their itineraries, produce very little water onboard, and rely on shore water, especially given today's slower steaming speeds.

Could it still be something to do with the water delivery system itself that is delivering unsafe water regardless of whether it was produced on board or brought on from shore?

But would this not have been affecting the ship while it was doing cruises for Pulmantur?

Maybe it was something that was affecting its cruises with Pullmar and that is why they don't want it released and why the people who know say that it will create a very heated thread when it is discovered and they are scared to share it.

I would have thought so. I'm just guessing but could it have been something that has the potential to cause problems even though it never has in the past that they just realized. Kind of like recalls in automobiles. Very few reported actual problems but they recall millions of vehicles to fix a potential problem.

Could there also have been different testing standards for whatever the issue is being flagged from a different country and sailing from non US ports?

Could be. I also thought it might have something to do with emission standards (scrubbers or different fuel requirements), since that would also be different coming to a US port now.

Maybe the astronomical body is the sun and the heated discussion relates to solar panels being installed. Something Pullmantur did is incompatible with the installation. Royal Caribbean should have been aware of and/or inspected Empress. But it was overlooked until the dry dock started.

I have added a second cup of coffee this morning hoping it gets my brain to fire on all 8 cylinders.

I can certainly understand and appreciate why those whose careers could be impacted by sharing information do not want to share information; but for those who are customers I see no reason to withhold information or be so coy about it. Either way; the cruises have been canceled and the ship moved to another facility so that the problems that were identified can be fixed.

I agree 100%.

If there are people that know the reason, then I do believe it should be shared regardless of the outcome. Thousands upon thousands of people were negatively impacted by this and deserve to know.

I also believe that somebody SHOULD be held responsible for impacting thousands upon thousands of people as well as RoyalCaribbean this negatively. They don't deserve to have a job if some huge oversight was made.

After all, this is an information sharing forum and I believe this qualifies as something cruise critic was exactly created for.

It is so frustrating for people to come on here and say they know what happened and then say but I'm not telling ha ha Ha. Just don't say anything at all then.... would make more sense to me.

Since the ship had previously sailed for RCI, there should not have been any construction issues with USPH. Even operationally, there would not be any "astronomical" issues with the water system, as regards safety. If it was a problem with the water making system, there are always ways to make temporary repairs, possibly get marginal results, but plan for later permanent repairs. But, again, this should have been noted during any pre-sale inspection.

Fuel or emissions requirements would also not be a "last minute" thing, and could be handled without major retrofitting, just at higher cost if a single fuel of diesel was necessary.

There will be a definite difference in operational requirements with the ship now calling at US ports (USPH), but that should also have been identified at an early stage by USPH specialists from RCI. Again, nothing that would qualify as "astronomical".

I do not have any definitive information on this issue, I'm just basing some thoughts on what has been posted here. I don't feel right about speculating on here, just as I fought against speculation regarding past incidents like the Triumph.

I think that whatever the "secrets" are now, they are NOT worth some person losing his/her job over just for revealing them.

Curiosity killed the cat.

But it doesn't help that posters come on here to tell us that they know, but can't share it.

I've read of two coexisting problems on the unreliable social media site of Facebook...but I guess I can't share? ;)

"It is not a marineside issue but is astronomical in size."

What could be "astronomical" in size? Maybe the sextant needs to be replaced.

They're adding a planetarium!

(I hope everyone realizes that was a joke)

So should I just reveal the reason empress is delayed? As much as I would love to tell you guys I've been sworn to secrecy like those employees working round the clock to get that ship into service have also.

I feel awful for those people who have has the cruises cancelled as I have said in earlier posts. The fact still stands that the reason will be revealed soon! But not from me!

I am not trying to prevent you from posting what you want, monarch, but THIS is the sort of post that is frustrating people like Luke.

Better to say nothing than to say this.

JMO.

YMMV.

Agree Merion Mom. This type of post is very frustrating especially for those, like myself, whose cruise was cancelled and was unable to re-book because the options didn't work for my party. If, as someone has posted, the reason is out there already, then why can't it be told here? Or give a link to where they've said "it's out there".

Agree with both posts. The key phrase in the first post is 'some person losing his/her job over just for revealing them'. The person who leaked the info may not be the person/s who caused or contributed to the problem. For all we know, the leaker may have tried to get management to act sooner and was rebuffed or overruled.

I feel awful for those whose vacations were impacted by these cancellations. But I can't help but wonder if the secrecy is making this out to be a more interesting and frustrating thing than it really would be if the truth were revealed, which in due time it (or some version of it) will be after the lawyers work their way through it.

Well guys all I can do is apologise but by me saying what I have, I'm itching to tell you guys, this saga has gone on long enough and even longer for those who were directly affected.

I'm going to guess that there are no sources/websites/discussion out there on the world wide web that can direct us to any answers?

I know a previous poster mentioned it hitting the public already elsewhere.
