It is not a classy look... at all. It won't stop me from cruising just as the loss of other glamorous items hasn't stopped me (such as the old midnight buffet with the food carvings and ice sculptures, Captian's party, etc.) but I will miss it as I miss those other items. There is always HAL and MSC for class, Carnival for budget travel and that is how I handle it.

it affects the ambiance which may affect some people's lives. ;)

if they can go to sleep at night knowing there is no longer table cloths then I think they will be okay. :)

Yes the table cloths obviously make it look better, but imagine how much water + waste they are saving? They have to replace them after each use and wash them every night.. it is a bit unnecessary. It will reduce water and energy use. Enjoy your meal and don't focus on a piece of cloth. It is not something to worry about at all.

Again, please do NOT use this... on a ship the water is made 24/7 from the ocean regardless of whether table cloths are "cleaned" or not, the laundry runs basically 24/7 and power is made 24/7 by the ship's power plant for the ship... The amount used for the "table cloths" would not matter either way.

Even if you don't care, some people like a tablecloth. It's allowed, you know.

Sorry. I like the tables with no table clothes better. Looks like a chic NewYork restaurant.

I have to agree with the other poster. I looks like a casino before the doors open. And it does look like a NY restaurant that is headed out of business because it has zero atmosphere. Can't demand $100 per customer and continue to offer nothing in return. On the other hand Carnival seems solidly on the road to offering nothing but a cheap ride to a couple of tired ports every week and is filling the seats so expect the reductions in services and quality of ride to continue.

We didn't ask, they brought a new fork before each course on our last cruise.

I have not gone with the American Table yet..this is good to me...I just think a new fork for the courses is nice any way they do it. Thank you declansdad!!

Just to all on this chat: I don't think people are snobs wanting a tablecloth and few extra utensils set either..noticed on the new Oceania ship they had either place-mats or tablecloths in all new dining areas even outside. they are admittedly between Hal and Crystal.... I think if they did place-mats that would be good..lol...I just am old fashioned I guess..and glad 50% and more so far are with me....but I will not die..just choose..and wow what an easy way to make a change or a comeback...going back to them. They fit with the spas and Martini (Alchemy Bar's)..etc on the ship to me.

When in the world did tablecloths, butter knives and salad forks become synonymous with the finer things in life. That lifestyle started dying in the 60s and pretty much has breathed its last breath. I'll make an a** of myself and assume that 95% of households don't set the table (if they set a table) with anything more than a single fork, a single knife, and a single spoon. All the little niceties don't seem to make food taste any better, for me at least.

I'll also make and a** of myself and state that a rousing majority of cruisers no longer cruise to play dress-up and psuedo rich....they cruise for fun and enjoyment and activities and relaxation. Most young kids have never seen a table cloth (except maybe for Thanksgiving dinner at Great Grandmas).

But someone doesn't walk away with them without replacing them for another course.

I no longer see carnival from my condo front porch :(

All a matter of opinion because to me the top table with the tablecloths looks very dated and old fashioned while the bottom without looks very fresh and modern. I LOVE the new Vista dining rooms.

Don't care either way about table cloths. I have more important fights to fight with Carnival lol

Bring back the chocolates.

Ever taken one of those Behind The Fun tours? One of the tour points we stopped at was the ship laundry where they wash all the linens. Although the huge washers, dryers, and monster sheet folding machines were impressive, the working environment was a bit humbling. It was below deck 1... Low ceilings.... Narrow corridors.... No windows..... Very loud. Very hot and stuffy.... In my opinion, one of the least desirable places on the entire ship. Definitely not the place I would want to spend 18 hour days.

We all need clean bedding and towels, so I'm grateful to the unseen crew who have "volunteered" for that job. With that said, table clothes only add to the work burden way down in that bottom deck and have absolutely no value to me. So, let them never come back.

Let Carnival focus on other areas to improve service.

Yeah, the lines love to wash less tablecloths so they can do more passengers laundry at a $$. But no one is working less because of this. They are not relaxing. They would be cutting help.

But I want to wretch every time I see the grey bucket with the grey water with the floating food on top with the dirty rag cleaning of a tabletop that has just been vacated. And then line my table with napkins.

You're mistaken. That's not for washing the tables. That's a serving pot with the evening's soup du jour. LOL
