Fine, I'll Try a Small Ship - Live GRANDEUR Review (July 2, 2016)

Recommended Posts

I'm on Grandeur this month. I think she will be the smallest ship for me to date. My last 2 were Ovation and Harmony. Should be interesting.

You might find that you enjoy the less hectic style.:)

I LOVE the Grandeur- yes she is older, yes she is smaller, but she is MIGHTY! Great crew, and yes some of the Oceanview Cabins DO HAVE a FRIDGE! I have always had one when i have cruised on the Grandeur. Love the Dance parties in the Centrum! Have a great time!

Good ship and good crew, but there might be a speck or two of unpainted rust here and there on the veranda, which is attacked 24/7 by salty ocean spray and oh heaven forbid you have to endure the indignity of a shower curtain.

Been on her twice over the last few years (last time in 2015) and loved every minute.

P.S. Another deal breaker for some, no bumper cars or North Star.

If anyone caught any of my periscopes this week, you probably concluded that a wild ravenous beast that had not eaten in months pilfered my iphone and went on a bender.

Nope, that was just me. I swear I don't normally eat like this.

First I hit the Meadowlands Fair and stumbled upon this healthy establishment:

I didn't see any kale or fresh fruit plates on the menu so I went with my backup plan - A bacon-wrapped corndog and a slice of bacon dipped in chocolate.

After that light snack, I decided to treat myself to something good for once. Deep-fried Oreos seemed like something that could hold me over until dinner time.

On Thursday I hit the Jackson Hole Diner for a small tossed salad with grilled chicken, spinach and light fat free dressing. No wait, I mean a 7 oz. bacon mushroom swiss burger. The waiter asked if I would like fries with that. I laughed him off and said "Fries? Ha, umm, no thanks. That stuff is loaded with saturated fat".

Notice how I wasted no time pushing that small vat of cole slaw off my plate.

A friend and I were on this ship in our 20s in 2006 and we both constantly thought of jumping overboard. The gloomy weather and endless sea days were probably the cause.

We arrived at the hotel at 10:45 PM and immediately went next door to the Stained Glass Pub for a couple of drinks and some late night food. I'm not joking when I say 'immediately'. We didn't even check into the room yet until a few minutes ago.

Crab dip and mozzarella sticks. I probably would not get these again.

Room 115. This is where Best Western puts their most exclusive VIPs.

These executive suites come with their own in-room spa:

And a fridge! I'm hoping for an Independence Day miracle on Saturday that there will be a fridge in our room on the ship as well.
