Loreni Posted August 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2016 I would like to try the Pub Lunch, but DH needs gluten free food. I doubt anything on the pub menu is gluten-free. DH would be happy with a salad. Does anyone know if salad is available (or any gluten-free options)?

hpeabody Posted August 21, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) Pub Lunch has a very limited menu of english pub food items. There is nothing gluten free and no salads in the Pub Lunch AFIK. Perhaps he could create his salad in the HC and bring it to the venue where the Pub Lunch is being held. shredie Posted August 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2016 DH can make himself a salad in the HC and then take it with him to accompany you to the pub lunch in Wheelhouse (if that's where it is). No one will mind.
Loreni Posted August 21, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted August 21, 2016 Thank you. I think we will just skip it. Really, it doesn't look very healthy. Just thought it would be nice to try something new, but not if DH has to bring his own food. Too bad there is no salad.

JF - retired RRT Posted August 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2016 Thank you. I think we will just skip it. Really, it doesn't look very healthy. Just thought it would be nice to try something new, but not if DH has to bring his own food. Too bad there is no salad. You're right. The closest thing to healthy is the Ploughman's Lunch...ham, cheese, roll, butter, pickle, some paté. Almost everything is fried.
elliair Posted August 21, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 21, 2016 If the ship you're on has an International Cafe, he can get a salad there. Not sure about the gluten in those salads. I've seen Waldorf salad, beet salads, potato salads, etc. Might save him a trip to Lido.
shredie Posted August 21, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 21, 2016 Love the fish and chips at the Pub Lunch!! :) That's the opposite of gluten free. :D I love the fish, too. Only one time was it not up to snuff. I also love the chicken curry, but I don't think that's GF either.
OCruisers Posted August 21, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 21, 2016 The menu for the Pub Lunch is quite limited. It would not be the best place for your husband to have lunch. :o
Potstech Posted August 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted August 21, 2016 I do not think pub's have ever worried about GF or healthy in their TRADITIONAL lunches. It was quick fare to allow the patrons something filling to go with a pint so they could get back to work. No "healthy" food concerns then. Fish and chips were great, as was steak and kidney pie, can't recall any salads, not normally a typical pub lunch fare.

OCruisers Posted August 21, 2016 #17 Share Posted August 21, 2016 Sometimes, it will be SHRIMP & chips rather than FISH & chips for the Pub Lunch. The menu will be posted at the entrance.
floridalover5623 Posted August 21, 2016 #18 Share Posted August 21, 2016 You're right. The closest thing to healthy is the Ploughman's Lunch...ham, cheese, roll, butter, pickle, some paté. Almost everything is fried. That's the reason we no longer go. At least in the Horizon there are better choices + a salad bar. ;) The last time we were at the pub lunch I could taste it all afternoon long. :(

Just thought it would be nice to try something new, but not if DH has to bring his own food. Too bad there is no salad. Fish and chips not healthy! It's the traditional British meal. With lots of salt and vinegar what's not healthy;);). However, it does taste better eaten out of newspaper like when I was a kid, but the'elf and safety boffins soon put a stop to that. Shame! Rare Colorado Coasty Posted August 21, 2016 #22 Share Posted August 21, 2016 I think I have eaten everything on the menu at one time or another, it is all good. We once shared a table with a woman who asked for and got each thing on the menu. She took one bite of each and left.
pris993 Posted August 21, 2016 #23 Share Posted August 21, 2016 If you decide to pass, you will not be missing much... last time we were on the Grand it was a mad house, so we passed. My brother in law went he said not that good. We tried to see if we could get an order to go, since we did not like the mad house atmosphere, answer was no. So we skip it. OCruisers Posted August 21, 2016 #24 Share Posted August 21, 2016 The Pub Lunch will be on an AtSea day. Fortunately, the MDR is also open for lunch on Sea days and has a much more relaxing atmosphere. :) LuLu
