Celebrity Edge's Blocks Are In The House!

Question: On other ships , when you first board , you do so on deck 5. With the new Terminal for Edge and the Special Gateway area.... do you think we will still board on 5 or would new terminal be designed to board via Gateway area? Just wondering. Not sure that would work given all the activity loading supplies, but wondering with all the design going into having a special Gateway area... seem like that would be a good entrance to ship .

My understanding is that the Destination Gateway is for tendering departure/arrival and they will use the space for other activities (travel info, maybe port lectures, etc.) and it does have a kitchen area so that catered events can be held down there. It would be a nice place to board for every cruise and every port, but anything I have read does not include that as a use.

I'll ask Valentina and Alf. One of them must surely know or can find out. I know they are keen to get sailing. Alf has now been on board for 6 weeks!

Thanks! It sounds like it may be Sunday now. Maybe more time in Freeport or earlier arrival in FLL? They are probably adding a pre-pre-pre-cruise. :classic_wink:

Interesting info this morning on that topic from Saint-Nazaire Tourisme

Translates as:
change of date
According to our information, the liner will #CelebrityEdge leave #SaintNazaire this Sunday 4 November around 3pm and not Tuesday 6 as originally announced. Attention, depending on the conditions, the hours can change at the last moment.

Thanks! That would be around 9 AM our time, I believe.

Quick Magic Carpet visit.

Thanks for the MC visit! You must have reached 100 pictures of the MC by now? I hope that you will be able to sail the Edge in the future and feel the thrill of stepping out onto the Ll'Edge.

Hopefully I will speak with them both this evening, but when the Captain was introduced to the crew on 18 October he announced they would sail on 6 November at 1 pm.

As of this morning, here is the T25 lineup at Port Everglades:

11/18 - Silhouette

11/19 - Edge - Arr

11/21 - Edge - Dep

11/23 -Edge - Arr

11/25 Edge - Dep

11/26 - Reflection

11/27 - Edge

11/29 - Edge

11/30 - Silhouette

(The dates where neither Arr or Dep are shown are one-day turnarounds.)

Nothing shown for December 1 and after at all!

I think someone should let PE know that maybe there will be a traffic jam at T25 on 11/30!

VT - are you commandeering her for the elusive two days?  If so, I know where you can find a bunch of willing ship mates! :classic_wacko:

We have an SV for a 9 night cruise  in Nov 2019...but will experience " the kennel" on our Jan cruise.. Hoping I will like it more than I think I will!  And we will have BLU and the Thermal Suites included as a trade of!

LOL... I would take 'the kennel' in advance of our sailing in Nov 2019!

bon voyage

No, we are still waiting for our stateroom assignments. A couple of people got theirs last night (one was TA, not sure if the other was a TA or not) so maybe I'll hear tonight.

BTW, the United Way is doing a flash sale today only - Nov 27-29 cruise to nowhere in an IV for $500 for 2 people (includes open bar, food, entertainment, gratuities, parking). It's not the usual cruise in that you can't book specialty restaurants, but may be invited to one. My BFF, LLP, will likely invite us to DOTE {Dinner on the Edge}.  :classic_wink:  You can book spa appts., the shops and casino will be open when at sea.

There is still time to join us! If you go to this site, click on "reserve your stateroom", it will take you to the $500 price - they probably have to turn the unsold cabins over soon so are selling them very cheap (they were $2000). All money goes to the United Way.

https://www.unitedwaybroward.org/events/celebrity-cruise-edge

I Am soooo tempted to book this... but afraid that I would not be alive at the time of our scheduled sailing for Nov 2019! LOL

Have fun and bon voyage

I don't think we'll be spending much time at the Martini Bar on Edge compared to the other ships. Normally we like to visit before heading one deck down to Luminae for dinner. Now Martini Bar and Luminae are far apart from each other separated by multiple decks. Hopefully the Retreat Lounge has a lively atmosphere and good drinks as I guess we'll be going there for our pre-dinner drinks. I just really love those specialty martinis. Maybe they'll be able to make them in the Retreat Lounge too.

SO SAD!

I am glad that Celebrity opened up the 11/27-29 cruise to benefit United Way; however, a little miffed that I was scheduled for one of the preview cruises at the end of this month only to have that cancelled because Celebrity feared the ship wouldn't be ready in time.  Air & hotel reservations cancelled.   Next thing you know, the ship is ready and TAs are invited (mine included).  Now another date is open just a few days after my original scheduled cruise; unfortunately, not everyone can get away in the middle of the week with such short notice.

Please don't flame me...I'm just venting because I have to wait another 13 months to experience The Edge!:classic_huh:

If anyone hears of a different arrival date of 11/19 into Fort Lauderdale, please post it here. In the meantime, I have to find a good viewing point to see her docked at T25. Just seeing the top the Infinity as I drove into Fort Lauderdale last week on her first day back had me super excited. I’ll probably have tears when I catch a glimpse of Edge!

11/21-11/23 is a mystery - maybe a special Thanksgiving cruise to nowhere for corporate office people? I've talked to a few over the last few months and they really want to be invited on one of the pre-pre-cruises. The crew onboard may also just take her out on the route of the other pre-preview cruises to nowhere to work out the route/glitches? I'm sure we will find out soon!

I understand - as you know, my two preview cruises were canceled and I was able to rebook. I am sorry for those who couldn't do the preview cruises that were left. I would have been broken-hearted.

My twisted quest to sail the Edge on the first cruise has taken many a turn (I've added and canceled cruises, rebooked the flights 4 times and the hotels multiple times), but at least I ended up happy with my cruise plans. I have heard, since starting this quest for the Edge, that the modification of the cruise schedule for these new ships is the norm, so I am going with the flow (but know that it wouldn't be as easy if I hadn't rebooked). Keeping my fingers crossed that something doesn't change again...

Hopefully, that 13 months will go fast for you, lola, and I will look forward to hearing about your wonderful cruise.

One of the reasons we booked the preview cruise was because I'd already be in Ft. Lauderdale visiting family for Thanksgiving.  That part of the plan hasn't changed so at the very least I'm hoping to see a glimpse of the Edge when I fly into FLL on November 20...and then drive past the port on my way out of the airport.  Not knowing where the new terminal will be might make that tough!

I have a Med cruise booked for next May (wishing our group could afford the Edge for that trip) so that will have to hold me over until next December!

Happy Friday

According to my source it was shown last month on the big theatre screen that 21-23 November was for  "Employee Shakedown" with CEO's and executives.

I believe that the Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State park across the channel from T25 would be an excellent vantage point, because there is a viewing area at the end, near the inlet channel, where Edge will have to pass on her way in to the port.  https://www.floridastateparks.org/sites/default/files/media/file/Mizell-Johnson-brochure.pdf

T25 is on the Intracoastal Waterway side of the port, so this should be a good place to go to see most everything.

Thanks, Peter.  However, in my post, I was referring to November 29-December 1.  I wonder where she is going then?  Any information from your source?  Thanks!

That is another pre-preview cruise for TA's, execs, media and invited guests. We have to get off and wait two days to board again on the 1st. Maybe they will love us so much for the first 4 days that they will say "stay onboard!". :classic_rolleyes:
