Same ship twice?

My family of 4 (hubby, 2 teenage boys) want to take a cruise in Europe. We want a newer ship with plenty to keep us busy. After much reading I think the RCCL FoS is the winner however we cruised on the ship back when it was brand new. I would love to try another ship but can't seem to find one that checks all the boxes. I thought

NCL epic but such bad reviews

RCCL Jewel not new enough and no Ball court

Royal Princess...friend said don't go princess

Celebrity Constellation...don't know

Disney Magic $$$ + lots of little kids

Please help. Open to all opinion. Want new & shiny!

What's wrong with the same ship twice? If it has what you want on it. We've cruised 1 ship 4 times, another 4 times, and another twice.

I don't know. With so many ships out there I just thought it would be fun to try a new one.

I would try the Epic, seems like it has a lot to do on board! I am considering the Epic for my transatlantic cruise. I think the main complaint is the room layout and sink in room.

Why'd your friend say, don't go Princess.

It's all but impossible to tell you what ship suits you without knowing you.

Your itinerary on FoS is port intensive, only one sea day. Why do you need all the bells and whistles? You will be so tired from touring that all you want to do is shower and relax, eat. She is 10+ years old, will have been refurbed several times, you may not recognize much of her. Europe is more about the itinerary than the ship. EM

I've sailed on the same ship four times. It's kind of nice to not have to spend the first day or so trying to figure out how to get around the ship!

As others have said, European cruises are usually very port intensive so the ship is not as important as when you have a few sea days. Last March I sailed on the Epic (I know she gets bad reviews--mostly because people don't like the bathroom setups and they feel there should be ore elevators-- but I loved her! Best cruise ever!) and was very hesitant as I'd never sailed on a mega ship. The Epic wouldn't have been my first choice of a ship that size, but I had a future cruise certificate and the Epic was going where I wanted to go. I didn't regret the decision for a second. I'm looking forward to sailing her again in September and I'll be very happy to already know where everything is! :D

Why not Princess?? My husband and I did a 21 night Med cruise in May 2016 on the Royal Princess - and absolutely loved every moment! We packed most days as there were only 3 seas days but saw so much and loved the ship. I'd go again tomorrow! My 14yo wasn't with us but wished she could have been. The skywalk was great - the entertainment wonderful - food divine - and the itinerary just perfect. We would have liked Venice but saw everything else we wanted, including Istanbul.

Your family wants a European cruise. I'm going to assume this is in order to see something of Europe. If that is the case, I would think that the itinerary would be of primary importance. If FOS gives you the itinerary you want, then stick with it. As others have rightly pointed out, the cruises are so port intensive that you'll be spending very little if your waking hours on the ship, and will most likely be too tired in the evening to do much of anything.

We have cruised repeat times on a number of different ships either because we liked the ship or because of the itinerary. To your comment about RCI Jewel not having a "Ball court", there indeed is a sports court (basketball) on deck 12 and the ship has been through at least two full drydock upgrades and refurbishments since her launch in 2004. But she does not have the Royal Promenade as with Freedom.

Have sailed the same ship quite a few times ..some good some bad.

If I were sailing with two teenage boys, I would stick with Royal Carribbean.

BTW :Your next to the last line implies that you do not want to spend lots of money to sail with LITTLE kids!

When other posters express that opinion they are jumped on!

Wonder why that did not happen to you.... huh!

Glad it did not !

Anyway have a wonderful cruise what ever you decide!:)

I have been on a couple of cruise ships more than once and have enjoyed it. However, I would try the Norwegian Epic, if I were you. I have sailed on that ship and it was wonderful! You've got to realize that some people will complain about anything and you have to take reviews with a grain of salt (or a whole salt shaker). Princess is a wonderful cruise line too. I'm not sure what issue your friend had with it, but I have been on Princess twice and loved it.

... I would love to try another ship but can't seem to find one that checks all the boxes...Want new & shiny!

Our first two cruises were on Adventure of the Seas. Our next two were on Celebrity Infinity. The next two (a b2b) were on Celebrity Millennium. But then I usually don't divorce until at least 6 years of marriage, don't trade in a vehicle if it is less that 8-9 years old, still own a nice herringbone sport jacket my father bought me when I was a freshman in college 55+ years ago. When I was rock climbing regularly, my partner and I would often start a long weekend of climbing at the Gunks by revisiting 3-4 climbs that we particularly enjoyed before moving on to something different. So I have not bought into this notion that newer is better and that an experience must be new to be worthwhile. My recommendation is to go on a cruise, any cruise, then take a deep breath, look around, and enjoy the wonderfulness of being on any cruise anywhere on any ship. They are all different but all have something to please.

By the way, I know nothing about most on your list, but Celebrity Constellation is a Celebrity M-class ship, a sister ship to Infinity and Millennium with which I am familiar, and she is definitely not new and shiny. And I am very much looking forward to a couple of weeks aboard her later this summer!

I have no problem with being on the same ship twice' date=' as long as the itinerary interests me.

Then again, I am port focused. For me, the ship is a floating hotel. I'm not interested in the shows, the demonstrations, or the casino.[/quote']

What, huh? You don't enjoy joining 2 or 3 thousand of your closest friends to watch someone carve up a hunk of ice?
