We are leaving Friday on the Navigator of the Seas. Wondering if I can take a clothes steamer onboard? I know I can't take an iron. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thank you

Q: What items are not allowed onboard the cruise ship?

s.gifA:

Weapons, illegal drugs, and other items that could interfere with the safe operation of the ship or the safe and secure environment of our guests and crew are prohibited. The following are examples of items that guests are not allowed to bring onboard. These and other similar items will be confiscated upon being found. Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, flammable liquids, explosives, and dangerous chemicals will not be returned..

Prohibited items:

Firearms & Ammunition, including realistic replicas.con_bulletgray_ico.gif

This includes heating pads, clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense and any other item that may create a fire hazard. NOTE: The only exception to this policy are curling irons and hair straighteners. Matches and normal lighteners are allowed onboard. However "torch lighters" and novelty lighters that look like guns are not allowed onboard. Torch lighters emit a powerful concentrated flame, and therefore are prohibited.

We brought one with us last year on Freedom. Got a note to go to security after the muster drill. They just had us open our luggage and they seen that it was a steamer and had no issues at all. We were able to keep it. Never did use it though. Hope this helps.

We will be on this sailing too! We can all just be wrinkled together [emoji12] I do take a small bottle of the downy wrinkle release with me. It kinda helps. See you Friday! [emoji4]

Does the Downy Wrinkle Release leave any type of residue on your clothing? I see it recommended quite often but was afraid try it. The few items that might wrinkle I use the old but good bathroom steam trick.

We found a useful tip on these boards a while back. No need to carry a heavy bottle of wrinkle release in your luggage. Just bring an empty spray bottle and a fabric softener dryer sheet. On the ship put the dryer sheet in the spray bottle, add tap water. Instant wrinkle release that really works!

That's awesome advice and thank you. They make the wrinkle release in travel size bottles

We use steam or water - it's hot in the Carribbean so our shirts dry quickly. Just wet a wash cloth and wipe it over the wrinkles to make the clothing damp - stand on the balcony for 5 minutes after you are dressed and magic - wrinkle free! If you don't have the balcony and don't want to leave your room damp - unwrinkled everything on the first day (with water if necessary) and hang it up ...

We tend to not close our luggage until a day or so before our trip and anything that is really hard to unwrinkled gets placed in as full length as possible - we have had very little trouble...

I use it all the time (not just for cruising) and I've never found it to leave a residue.

  • 2 years later...

We always take a steamer an have never had it confiscated. This last cruise I pre-ironed all our clothes and accidentally forgot to pack the steamer.  We survived.  I did bring a spray bottle so a light mist and let it air dry.  Wasn't perfect.  I will definitely try the dryer sheet method for the future.

The table outside symphony was full of confiscated items, mostly cords, but lots of steamers, and even a RICE COOKER!
