Ocean Medallion Holder Survey

Well, the former CEO of Continental Airlines once said you can make a pizza so cheap nobody will eat it. I would worry about the metal pendant at $10 turning my décolletage green. My worries would diminish at $20.

LOL! Love this!

Thanks Daisyloo...that helps a lot. But so I understand correctly, only the Medallion will be mailed to us? If we choose to use some sort of holder (bracelet or necklace), can we buy that when we get on-board or order ahead of time?

Sorry, I can't answer that. Either the rep didn't mention that or my old brain has forgotten!

My guess would be that it will be available ahead of time - if you can customize the colour of your medallion, it must be something that you pick ahead of the cruise, and it makes sense that any holder will be available pre-cruise as well. If Princess wants this to succeed they need to make it as easy and as pleasant a transition as possible. If we truly can just walk on board at embarkation it would make sense that we would have our holder pre-cruise. (if we opt for one)

The OCEAN FAQs clearly answer many of the repeatedly ask questions on this forum including replacement. Those answers are more credible to me than what's been posted on any CC thread.

Whoever posted it would cost $10 to replace the Medallion was spreading a baseless rumor because there is no fee & hopefully facts will end such rumors.

What happens if I lose my Medallion? How do I get a replacement? Is there a cost?

If you notify the crew that an Ocean Medallion has been lost, it will be identified and/or replaced at no cost. Your Ocean Medallion can be disabled at any time by you or an appropriate crew member.

Here's the link to those FAQs with the current answers about the new system which are Frequently Asked Questions.

Danged facts mess up a good rumor every time! How are we going to survive without the rumor mongers to keep people stirred up with their pitch forks out.

If they want me to use their medallions, I'm not paying to display it.

That's like buying a T-shirt with "Nike", or "New Balance" or "Target" or "Macy's", etc. printed on the front. The company is getting you to advertise for them for free..

Until the system is implemented & adjusted to run smoothly no one knows the final product. Until then people with pitch forks should take the time to read the current facts & to not continue posting assumptions.

To me written Princess statements are more credible than verbal statements by anyone at Princess. Although even some written statements are incorrect when they are slow making updates.

Other FAQs address privacy concerns such as this one:

Will I be able to opt out of or turn off this new technology?

If you do not want to take advantage of the full Ocean Medallion Class experience, you can switch your privacy setting to "Safety Only" and enjoy the cruise the same great way you do today.

I agree with your thoughts about onboard tracking because the same people use other forms of technology such as cell phones which track our movements. Every time we agree to a website or apps terms we allow such things to occur

"Knock knock, according to our records, you have been in the bathroom for 35 minutes. Do we need to change your dietary needs?"

"Hey we noticed that you picked up that shirt in our store. Is there another size you would like?"

If we truly can just walk on board at embarkation.

It'll be interesting to learn in November if that is accurate or not.

Governments are attempting to improve security features on identification including passports. I can only speculate but would think there would need to be a physical inspection & scanning of passports during the embarkation procedure. I don't see how a photo of a passport added to ***** pre-cruise would be sufficient but that's merely my guess.

And if a scan & inspection are required at the port (at check-in, security or boarding the ship) that would slow down the boarding process & thus not save time.

None of us will know for sure until November or even later as adjustments are made to have a fully functioning ***** system. It'll be interesting to learn all of the facts & not merely our speculation about the ***** system.

I'll use a 4th option, in the safe or the bottom of the deep blue sea. I won't use it. If there comes a time where the medallion is mandatory then I'll keep it in an RFID wallet to prevent it from being read and only take it out to enter my cabin or pay for something. I won't be tracked, it's not Princess' business where I am every second in order to tailor "sales" to me.

I doubt that they'll track you specifically. Even then would you rather them try to customize things that you might be interested in or just dump every marketing option on you? I don't get this "I don't want them to know where I'm at" phobia. You're already on a Princess ship. Uh, oh!

I don't know, but maybe IF they do track the crowds, they can design ships with even better traffic flow, shows/activities that are more popular. Timing of activities that meet your needs better.... all sorts of positives.

I want an implant. No more cards, no Medallions and nothing to lose.

:D

Micro Chip for me.....:D

Bob

Being microchipped is already an option at a one company for entrance & purchases like with the *****. ;p

Wisconsin company to install rice-sized microchips in employees

"A Wisconsin technology company is offering its employees microchip implants that can be used to scan into the building and purchase food at work. Whether or not to get a chip is up to the employee to decide. The tiny chip, which uses RFID technology or Radio-Frequency Identification, can be implanted between the thumb and forefinger "within seconds".

Bob & FL, maybe you'll eventually be able to have a rice-sized implant instead of an *****. ;p

One of the early written documents stated that if a person did not want to use the Medalion, that they could opt out and would be provided the old cruise card. That will probably be for some given time period after which everybody will be automatically to the Medallion. Of course, that might change to only the Medallion before or soon after the start of the program in November. But that is what was stated at the beginning.

I am counting on Princess holding true to this statement; I've seen nothing in the promo material on the Medallion that would cause me to want one--for much the same reasons that I never take a laptop, tablet, phone, or any other electronic device when I cruise.

I wish I could take this survey! I personally think you should receive a rubber type wristband in the color of your choice for free. Bands like that are so cheap; it would just be good customer service to include it with the experience. If you want to upgrade to a silver or gold jewelry piece, you'd have to pay.

And based on their promotion of *****, many of the useful functions will still require a WiFi connected device just like Princess@Sea.

Although ***** does add the option to view that information from the cabin's TV system or displays located around the ship.

That already stated they would be tracking you individually so they can "market" to you. They also said the bartender would know exactly what you want before you order it. I see zero benefit to me and all the benefit to them so count me out.

So you wouldn't like to use the find feature to locate your husband or wife?

Sound like a neat feature to me.:)

Unlocking you door without having to pull out your card when you hands are filled with coffee & food. Another plus.:)

I can see it now. "Jones, you've just been fired. Report to the hospital surgery for removal of your chip, ASAP.":o:o

What I find amusing about this survey is that seeks exactly the kind of pricing data that the medallion itself will someday provide. Once it is up and running, the medallion will eventually be able to tell Princess the optimum price ("what the market will bear") for everything from these trinkets to the cruise fare itself, based not on what what a limited number of survey respondents say, but on actual sales results from all medallion-bearers. And algorithms will allow the data to be sorted by a virtually limitless variety of factors, e.g, ship, season, itinerary, demographics, your previous spending and, yes, how much time you spend at the buffet and elswehere.

You are more likely to get that knock from your smart phone with location services

I'm wondering if we can just walk on with the new medallion, will they no longer require a health report filled out before boarding,

Also, if it is in "safety mode", I not really understanding what a person can do and not do. I just really want to open the cabin door, buy laundry coins if elite laundry is taking too long, and use it for store purchases plus the casino.

We'll be boarding the Regal on December 17, so I'm hoping s feedback will be posted on CC.

I sure don't mind new technology, but I'm on vacation and don't want this to hinder a relaxing time. In other words, don't want to pay to be stressed out.
