Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted November 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2017 It very much depends on how much luggage you have and how tired you are after your flight. Taxis are quick, direct but expensive. Trains are cheap but you have to handle your own luggage and walk from the station to the hotel. Shuttle buses are medium prices but you may end up waiting a while and/or trundling around Sydney from one hotel to another before arriving at your one. Personally after a long international flight I would head for the taxi rank.

BTW, check mozio.com, which is a great search engine for international airport transfers. At the very least, it will give you ballpark costs. NSWP Posted November 15, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2017 As others have said Train $17 pp and a 10-15 minute walk Taxi about $50 And with the Sydney Traffic congestion and delays, it could be $100. :( That meter really ticks. Uber is the go, get a fixed price for trip. MrYellowDuck Posted November 15, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2017 I nearly always get the train. There is no messing around - you get on at the airport and it goes direct to where you want to be e.g. the circular quay station is very close to the OPT. scrapcreator Posted November 16, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 16, 2017 We took the train from the airport to Circular Quay. Bought an Opal card at the airport before we boarded and then use the card for the train, ferry to Manly and bus to Bondi while we were there. Easy to reload, too. Justthetwofus Posted November 16, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2017 Train is the cheapest way to go next would be Uber and taxi would be last Sydney atm has a lot of road closures ,detours ect so a taxi ride could become outrageously expensive ,train $17 flat no stress Sent from my iPhone using Forums
NSWP Posted November 16, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 16, 2017 Yes, indeed train is the way to go to the city. We use it when cruising out of Sydney or flying out of Sydney. Drive up from Batemans Bay, leave our car at brother in laws place @ Engadine (southern suburbs) then train it. Just topped up the Opal Cards the other day.:halo:
Beanb41 Posted November 16, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 16, 2017 getting to and from Circular Quay from the airport we always use the train. Even in early mornings when there is limited traffic the train is quicker and IMO less stress.
Aus Traveller Posted November 16, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 16, 2017 Do travellers using the train need an Opal Card (rather than paying for the one trip)? Where can it be obtained and how much does it cost? For a one-off trip this could be a PITA. :D
Beanb41 Posted November 16, 2017 #14 Share Posted November 16, 2017 No you don't have to purchase an opal card but if you are travelling around Sydney on buses, trains and ferries it is a worthwhile purchase The website for the Opal card is below https://www.opal.com.au/

I think what he is saying is that the location of your hotel may make a difference to how we suggest you get to and from the places you want to, at the best price. beatleman Posted November 17, 2017 #21 Share Posted November 17, 2017 Please explain what you mean. I haven't booked our hotel yet but plan to do so in the next day or two. Sydney has a great Public Transport system,Rail, Bus, Light Rail, Ferries; and free Tourist Buses. So if your Hotel was in the area of say The Rocks,Circular Quay it would pay you to take the train from the Airport cost about $17AUD per person;as against a taxi $50 -100 AUD. OPT is within walking distance.,short walk to Ferry about $10 will take you to Darling Harbour for the Hard Rock....Taxis can send you broke in Sydney, hope this helps your planning and welcome to the land of Vegemite.
