Rare C-Dragons Posted February 22, 2018 #26 Share Posted February 22, 2018 I am sure finding a sunbed would be a problem, especially on sea days. I was recently looking at the details of some of the larger and mega-ships. They seem to add extra decks of cabins and lengthen the ship, but not enough to give pool deck space to the masses. There is an MSC ship for 5400 passengers that is only 30 foot longer than the Eclipse carrying 2800. How the heck does that work??:o Not very well, I would imagine. 😁
davekathy Posted February 22, 2018 #27 Share Posted February 22, 2018 this is not true for Voyager class and most of the other ships , just oasis class and newer. Freedom class which is a little larger also does not need reservations That's correct. Reservations not required for entertainment or any of the non Specialty Dining venues on the Freedom, Voyager, Radiance, Vision and Sovereign class ships. Luvcrusn Posted February 22, 2018 #28 Share Posted February 22, 2018 No larger than the Reflection please! I like the calm and sophisticated atmosphere of the Celebrity ships. (They'd be better without the bogus art auctions, but that's another thread). I really miss the older ships like the Mercury. They felt so much more intimate. I would not sail a mega ship though, too much like cattle.
westcoastvecs Posted February 22, 2018 #29 Share Posted February 22, 2018 My favorite ship was the Century. Love the mega ships when sailing with the whole family including grandkids. Otherwise I love the beautiful multi level dining rooms, atriums, lots of wood and brass. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
varoo Posted February 22, 2018 #30 Share Posted February 22, 2018 (edited) Another NO vote here. We want a cruise ship to be ............ a cruise ship, not an attempted imitation of a shopping mall promenade or an amusement park. Another thing we dislike about the large ships is that it seems as if we need to hike for miles if we want to go back to our stateroom to get something. We thought the M-class ships were ideal, well designed, not too large and not too small, before they messed them up by "solsticizing" them. Also, we could do nicely without the gimmicks and glitz, such as hanging trees in mid air, or magic carpets. bookitdanno Posted February 22, 2018 #31 Share Posted February 22, 2018 No, Thank you very much! We neither want nor need anything larger than S class.
cruzeluver Posted February 22, 2018 #32 Share Posted February 22, 2018 I wanted to try the Royal Caribbean mega ships, until dw pointed out that you had better make a reservation IN ADVANCE just to see a show in the theater....Now, thats just crazy, too crowded for me. I had that same concern until we actually went on Oasis of The Seas last Fall. Booking the shows is not required but recommended and very, very easy to do. We walked right into every show and had excellent seats. In terms of feeling crowded, we actually felt the crowds much less on that ship as compared to a lot of others we have sailed on. There is so much space and options of places to be that it really spreads people out. We were able to get loungers right next to a pool in the middle of a sea day no problem. Why? Because there are four pools! The only time we felt the number of people on board was at the farewell celebration on the last sea day on the board walk. That was a sea of humanity! But we still enjoyed it and plan to book Harmony of The Seas for 2019.
jeffb1062 Posted February 22, 2018 #33 Share Posted February 22, 2018 No the ships are just the right size! That’s what I like about celebrity, If you want bigger ships try NCL or Carnival Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
STIguy Posted February 22, 2018 #34 Share Posted February 22, 2018 IMO no need for ships larger than the S Class ships. Plus 1. Definitely NOT a size queen. :')
Rare ORV Posted February 22, 2018 #35 Share Posted February 22, 2018 Voyager Class https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=55343381&postcount=18 I've been on it, and am going on it again, but I won't be in that crowd.
Static events Posted February 22, 2018 #36 Share Posted February 22, 2018 haha I know they're ships. We much prefer Celebrity to any other cruise line BUT we just wish their ships were a little bigger. Do you think Celebrity could ever steal a Voyager class from Royal? Im sure if they gave it the Celebrity makeover and magic it would do really well. What do you guys think? I agree they could build a bigger ship and I would love a bigger ship however I wouldn’t want many more passengers so obviously Celebrity wouldn’t build a ship that’s bigger without increased capacity. Also voyager class ships arent much larger and I prefer an S class ship. I do however love RCL Oasis class ships, they have so many entertainment options and bars. Oasis class ships also aren’t crowded at all IMO.
cltnccruisers Posted February 22, 2018 #37 Share Posted February 22, 2018 We were on Freedom of the Seas last cruise. DW liked the size but I thought it too big. Silhouette for the first time next month. I think I'll be happier with her size.

Marelaine Posted February 22, 2018 #39 Share Posted February 22, 2018 CoupleUK - my first thought was no. The Solstice class ships are large enough for us. But I am curious about the type of features you might add to a larger ship, aside from more cabins. I'm not interested in wave pools or roller skating rinks. A ballroom might be nice, but not enough to convince me.

We're in our 60s and just want to float around and relax. Have a nice meal, do some low key touristy stuff, shop, maybe gamble a little and (best of all) disconnect. Don't want wifi or even cell service. If my employer really wants to get in touch they can pay for the trip.

Personally, I like to see and smell the water and just don't get the impression I could do that on the monster ships.

The only 270 I know is a freeway, and nobody in their right mind would want to be on it a moment longer than necessary, and they certainly wouldn’t want to see it replicated on a ship lol:') I’m with you on wanting to see, hear and smell the sea rather than some sort of Central Park replication. Celebrity ships offer a more laid back vibe. If I'm cruising with my grandchildren the mega ships will be my choice. Otherwise give me the relaxed atmosphere that is the celebrity strength. Ozzmund Posted February 23, 2018 #47 Share Posted February 23, 2018 For my wife and I, Celebrity is just the right size. Like some others have mentioned, when we take our daughter and her family, we will head for Royals' mega ships. The four grandkids will love all of the bells and whistels. Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted February 23, 2018 #48 Share Posted February 23, 2018 Funny, I'd like to see them smaller, more like the original M class before the Solsisticization, or smaller. Me too.
