Carlos A. Posted April 18, 2018 #51 Share Posted April 18, 2018 That is why the country is going to hell. Some people are concerned when others are being exploited. I'm curious, aren't RCI ships under Bahamas labor laws and almost 90% of the waiters are from different countries other than the US?
George C Posted April 18, 2018 #52 Share Posted April 18, 2018 I normally tip on all drinks in diamond, concierge, suite lounge or normal bar , bring about 100 in singles
Grandma Dazzles Posted April 18, 2018 #53 Share Posted April 18, 2018 Sadly, Americans are so concerned with the idea of tipping, they automatically do it no matter what the service level is. That practice is not helping any of us - 15% sure, 18% no problem, 20% bring it on.... Tipping is and should be for setvice ABOVE AND BEYOND not just for doing something in a mediocre way. Bribing (oops I mean tipping) a staff member up front is just a way to entice faster, not better, service. Tips should be paid (if at all) at the end of a cruise - ever since prepaid grats were introduced service and standards have plummeted IMHO. Finally, I would rather give something to the person hoovering and cleaning the stairs or the toilets than any of the waiting staff. PS no need to have a moan at me as Im not concerned if you disagree. Thread is not focused on general tipping. Questions are about Diamond lounge. Drinks are free therefore no percentages applied and no prepaid gratuities. In the Diamond lounge and Concierge lounge I always tipped on the last night, "the old fashioned way." However, with more passengers using the lounges and staff rotating more, it is sometimes easier to tip $1 per drink. I usually tip as I am leaving the lounge - it's not a bribe - it's a thank you. Redrobo Posted April 18, 2018 #54 Share Posted April 18, 2018 No idea why people can't just worry about themselves an mind their own business. Should be a sticky or a header for every thread that is started. If everyone followed the suggestion there would be very few threads and certainly less venom. CoupleUK Posted April 18, 2018 #55 Share Posted April 18, 2018 Thread is not focused on general tipping. Questions are about Diamond lounge. I dont see the difference. Tip for service OVER AND ABOVE good. There was a time that I would agree that tips lead to a higher level of service - that always used to be the case in the US. Hasnt been that way for quite a while now. Its about time the US dragged itself into the modern world and paid staff a decent wage - with tipping reserved for very special service only. Sorry that I dont keep saying Diamond Lounge in every sentence just to keep "on topic".

squale2 Posted April 18, 2018 #58 Share Posted April 18, 2018 I believe they are paid a descent wage - or they would go elsewhere. TIP because you want to - not because someone else wants you to. It is as simple as that
Rare BillOh Posted April 18, 2018 #59 Share Posted April 18, 2018 OK, I'm obviously not talking about cruise critic members because we all tip $1 min.per drink right? It's all those others and it's a lot of people, where nothings happening, some are hard pushed to say thank you. That's what my wife says and believe me, she's always right. These are cruises out of Florida. We need an official Diamond Member Protocol Manager, are you volunteering? When I first became Diamond, many in the Diamond forum said to tip your waiter big on the first night and they will take care of you. I did that and she never returned to the DL. bmac1 Posted April 18, 2018 #60 Share Posted April 18, 2018 I really don't worry what everyone else does or doesn't do that's not my business but I do tip $1.00 per drink in the DL and at any bar I use the free drinks on card on including the free Casino drinks I receive because I want to and personally think it's really appreciated by the staff regardless of what pay they do or do not receive for the service they provide. Obviously not, but I didn't read that concern from your original answer. That's the point, not the tipping but the labour laws under what RCI workers are. Rare LMaxwell Posted April 19, 2018 #66 Share Posted April 19, 2018 No idea what anyone else does; don’t watch them. We have had good service in DL and in using our vouchers outside the DL and have provided cash tip accordingly. Everyone happy.
SilkySal Posted April 19, 2018 #67 Share Posted April 19, 2018 The times when I have had a drink package I was never told that and never had an issue getting a vent. This was just on our recent cruise last March on Navigator, so don't know if it's a "new" thing or not. The barista did tell me that they were supposed to make the "packages" coffees in no larger than the grande cups but, since I was tipping her, she switched it to the venti. I don't know, maybe she was just pulling my leg.:o
Reijo Posted April 19, 2018 #68 Share Posted April 19, 2018 My husband and I are Diamond but don’t drink. However, I have a question that has been mentioned before. It seems there is automatically a tip added when you purchase a drink. Do you tip over and above that?

It seems there is automatically a tip added when you purchase a drink. Do you tip over and above that? The original post was about tipping for the "free" drinks in the DL during happy hours, since gratuities are not added to those "free" drinks in the lounge. However, some people also tip for drinks outside of the lounge too, even though the 18% gratuity is added. Personal preference really!;)
Rare island lady Posted April 19, 2018 #70 Share Posted April 19, 2018 Add me to the pax that tip a dollar a drink when served in the CL/DL/SL. So many different waiters (even if they do indeed pool tips) that we just want to make sure we tip each one that actually serves us. And they do know the ones that are tipping all along versus the ones that "may or may not tip" at the end of the cruise. ;)
Goodtime Cruizin Posted April 19, 2018 #71 Share Posted April 19, 2018 I contend that the drinks in the DL & CL are actually not free. But that's nunya as well.

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk Lots of conflicting information on that question! Some say yes and some say no!
