Status of Ocean Medallion?

We only hallway screen that ever reacted to anything while I walked by with my ***** was our own cabin. It started reacting about 8 feet away and when I touched the handle or got extremely close, it went into its next mode, which was showing a handle on the screen and the light turning green.

Thank you. This thread really needs more first-hand posts, and fewer guesses.

I was on Caribbean Princess last week and will be on the next couple weeks. Today I actually had a one-on-one with the one heading it up, John Padgett, the Chief Experience and Innovation Officer for the Carnival Corporation. He answered lots of my questions.

Right now we have Lido, Riviera, and Aloha decks with the Medallions. Decks will continue to be rolled out one by one over the next few weeks. We're on Lido so we have the Medallions all three weeks. Currently we can use the Medallion to open our cabins, pay in the shops and bars, as well as wager with in the casino. (Those without Medallions can do the same, but just with the cruise card instead.) Soon the Medallion will be able to be used for embarkation and disembarkation. They are working hard at making it a thoughtful and seamless roll-out so they aren't rushing to make it all happen at once.

And a tidbit of info...Did you know if you stand near the mirror inside your cabin with the Medallion in your pocket your door could unlock? At least for us it does. Don't worry, they're working on it.

The large monitors do not show your picture and what cabin you are in.

There is a small iPad type monitor at the bars facing the bartenders, same in the stores that show a small circle picture with your name underneath it. Nothing else is displayed unless they hit on it. No one else can see anything else. So yes, since the stores are usually not that busy, the crew member will look a the monitor they see and call you buy name.

The funny thing is the first day someone was on screen that the bartender was my husband and called him Brad. Therefore for the rest of that cruise, both I and our friends called him Brad!

We had the medallion on our 12/17 Regal sailing so do have first hand experience with it.

Thank you -- I will refrain from commenting further on the medallion until I finish the Regal cruise in October. -- EBC

I had read previously on one of these threats that someone mentioned that if they left their medallion in their cabin and went on their way that the room steward would not make up their cabin because he thought they were in the cabin. Our steward used a regular card up against the screen to access our cabin. I never saw him use a medallion and did not ask him if he had one. I never saw him holding a reader device like an iPad either.

Thank you for taking time out of your cruise to post.

If you have a chance during your remaining time on board -- can you ask if there is

any basis to the man-over-board, and security confronting someone not carrying a

medallion posts that have been showing up here?

Do you know if you have an ***** cabin?

We are cruising with another couple who has ***** for their cabin. ( Princess notified them that they will receive the *****).

Our cabin is not *****, but we will be spending a lot of time with our friends, and I will try to post a first-hand report of what I observe when they use the *****. I'll try to get a photo of the video screens, so that everyone can see how the ***** interacts with the screens. -- EBC

He is off the ship now but I will add those questions for next week. He did say in the whole-group presentation last week and again when I met with him today that use of the Medallion is optional. Passengers assigned Medallions can continue to use just their cruise cards and not use the Medallions if they so choose. So security won't be chasing anyone down. Now if you refuse to present a cruise card or Medallion at the gangway when embarking or disembarking or when making an onboard purchase I could see that being problematic.

We had the Ocean Medallion on the Regal in January. Many, many times I left my Medallion in the cabin in the evening because I didn’t want to wear it around my neck on the lanyard (not a fan of lanyards) or I didn’t have a pocket that evening to carry it in. No one said a word to me about not carrying the medallion...ever.

so, you had a pocket for your cruise card?

I don't do lanyards either ( well not until ELITE status anyway );p

Didn’t carry my cruise card either. Was with my husband. He had his Medallion and cruise card. Used that for anything we needed and to get it cabin.

When we booked our Royal Princess cruise for this Oct last year it was to be ready for Ocean Medallion. With ***** being implemented on the Regal and the Caribbean Princess am I safe to say that we will not have it on the Royal this October ?

Given that ***** is not fully implemented on the CB or Regal, it most likely would be safe to say no to your question. Since the Regal has been in Europe all summer, reports have been that very little has been done to implement *****. This may be because all the work was being done behind closed doors. Meanwhile work on implementing ***** on the CB continues.

It was reported first hand on this thread that Regal passengers received OMs while on CB they were integrating with the crew still. This has moved forward and passengers on both have reported having OMs.

You should amend your remarks to say that "very few Regal Passengers received *****'s." And even for those who did receive *****'s....much of the system does not function. We will be back on the Regal in about 2 weeks (and no. we have not received any OMs) and will post what we see...when we see it :).

I was only trying to point our that passengers on the Regal (number unknown but did not matter) posted here they did receive OMs, where as on the CB only crew had OMs at the same time. I know everyone is splitting hairs, but so many times here the statement kept being made that only the CB had ***** work being done which was not the case. If you go back into the June/July time frame on this thread, you will find several posts indication no work was being done on the Regal until it got back across the pond in September. Shortly after CC members indicated they had just gotten off the Regal and had an *****.

That's ok .... a couple weeks ago, there were at least two posts telling us that their secret

sources on board reported that when ***** started on Carribean, it would be a full ship roll-out.

I think anyone who has followed the ***** history over the past year was skeptical

... even if it was in the poster's blog.

I don't think you were talking about my blog as I don't think I said secret sources, and I only started blogging from CB last week. But yes, John Padgett who is running the show, told those of us in Medallion cabins in a meeting that CB would be the first full ship roll-out. Also got a letter...

Absolutely NOT your blog. Sorry for any inadvertant offense.

This was a blog by a poster who had previously posted/blogged incorrect

information on ***** on Royal.

To me, that made their claim about full ship roll-out even more suspect.

I appreciate you taking time from your cruise to post comments and updates.

That is what this thread really needs.

Rumor says "being alpha tested currently by Princess home office people, rollout to pax 'sometime

in September'".

We just got off CB on Saturday (8/25). Quite a few passengers were wearing lanyards with the medallions. Those I asked said it worked fine.

We did not get the *****. (E406)
