Status of Ocean Medallion?

We're booked in Baja deck cabin on an upcoming CB sailing ... where on Baja is your cabin? Is it anywhere near B632?

From what I understand, they are going deck by deck on Caribbean Princess, not by muster zone like Regal. So the entire Baja deck has the *****.

We just got off her on 8/25 and when we were on her I was the Rivera deck that had the *****.....but depending on which way we approached our door...front to aft or aft to front depended on if the door picked up the signal...so we would have to take it out and tap the sensor or wave it. In some places it worked to buy merchandise, bingo etc...but getting off the ship was still the card so I just used the ***** at night or in the am when coming and going from dinner, shows and gym. Free internet was great though. That was a nice surprise when I went to log on to redeem our free minutes and it said you have unlimited internet for entire cruise...not that I was on it a lot, but I wasn't as freaked about oh no did I end the session....

Yep, you got me there. That certainly justifies millions of dollars of investment, a completely failed roll-out, many unhappy cruisers demanding compensation, etc. But no, I would not get a plate of food and 2 coffees (DW is a tea drinker) but might actually order room service :).

Hank

We both know that the door opening option is only a side benefit of the *****. (and probably the only thing I'll actually use)

Tracking, drink sales delivered to your seat and advertising the new feature seem to be the major objectives.

As far as compensation goes, people ask it for just about anything that goes wrong on the ship & actually look for something that's not up to par so they can demand it.

I am not saying any compensation should or should not have been given, but if you go back to the early publicity about the ***** it was presented as the best thing since cruising was invented and of course you should book a cruise just to experience having it. Indeed there were many posts on Cruise Critic who said they did book a cruise just to be among the first to experience this. In effect, they were sold an experience that was not delivered.

Princess even had a contest in which the first prize was a free cruise on the very first sailing of the Regal with *****. I have always wondered how that turned out for the winner.

I did receive a $100 credit on Regal TA when I called but others on the same cruise reported it was refused them. I called and asked early and had booked early. My thought was that if you booked after it became clear mostly no ***** then no credit. I did not book because of ***** but was happy to be given the credit. You did not receive the credit if you didn’t ask. Mike

You had to book before a "certain" date to be eligible for the OBC. IF you booked after that date, it was "assumed" by Princess you knew that it wouldn't be an ***** sailing

M228 is one of the original 110 Medallion cabins. There were 36 on the Lido deck, 36 on the Marina deck, 36 on the Baja deck and 2 on the Caribe deck.

Thank you for taking time out of your cruise to post.

If you have a chance during your remaining time on board -- can you ask if there is

any basis to the man-over-board, and security confronting someone not carrying a

medallion posts that have been showing up here?

I did ask John Padgett, the one in charge from Carnival corp about this. No, security won't get involved if you're not carrying your Medallion. In fact, you don't even have to have a Medallion if you don't want to. Prefer to keep and use your key card? Go for it.

As for the man overboard situation...it's not like it's water activated like that light on your life vest. But if you are not on the ship (even if you are in port) it can detect that you are not on the ship.

This "man overboard" is a silly kind of argument. One needs to simply look back a few years at man/woman overboard situations, In most cases they were suicide attempts often fostered by alcohol. Those kind of folks could care less about a rule. In another case a couple was making love on their balcony railing (sans clothes) and fell off the ship. A situation where somebody accidentally falls off a ship (while sober) is rare indeed. Furthermore, the protocol for man overboard is not dependent on a medallion. There are various rules of the sea that dictate a ship (and any other vessel in the vicinity) searching for anyone overboard...and contacting the authority who has jurisdiction over that part of the sea (i.e. Coast Guard).

As to the silly CC rumor mill that you must wear a Medallion....that is total baloney. In fact you do not even have to use a Medallion. You have an option of going to Guest Services and asking for a Cruise Card in lieu of the Medallion. or so we were told the last time we cruised on the Regal.

And of course then there is the biggest question of all.....will the Medallion system ever fully function? Sound like a silly question, but it was supposed to be fully functioning on the Regal more then 9 months ago.

I thought the”man overboard” was a bit far fetched from the time someone drew the conclusion which as I recall was based purely on supposition (imagination). Mike

Of course it is.

Along with the claim that the ship will somehow stop the props to avoid injuring someone going overboard.

And, the claim that security will be interested in you if you're not carrying a medallion.

I'm glad that these ideas have been shown to be nonsense. Thanks again to the spud for following up.

When someone does post so much nonsense here, I think it shows that most (if not all) of their posts

should be questioned.

Are you in one of those cabins? How’s it going with the *****?

Looks like he is on Caribe. Post below is from another thread from before sailing 8/24.

Nieces on Aloha deck got ***** emails for the 9-1 cruise. We on the Caribe deck have not gotten anything yet

Works ok, door is open as you arrive. Paid for my latte with a tap of the *****, called my name at the pickup. There tend to use the card in the casino to check you in on the table and to get a cash advance. To come and go off the ship, they use only the card, but do it twice, once with a IPad and then with the normal scanner. Haven't bought anything in the other shops yet, so no clue how they are doing it. Dinning room still uses the folio number.

Sounds like they still don't fully trust the ***** for ship access yet.

Are all decks on Caribbean getting Medallions yet?

Come to think on it, it might be a simple matter of crowd flow: Finding Waldo in a matrix of photos of all

the folks in the boarding area is going to be slower than finding him in the photo linked to a particular

cruise card.
