Thanks Brian...I’ve enjoyed the Banfi Rosso di Montalcino which costs $22 at Total Wine plus tax. That’s about $39 with corkage & tax and about $45 onboard after adding the 15% tip. And it’d be even less expensive with a wine package (as low as $29 plus 15% tip).

No Tawny Ports? Guess I'll bring 2

Edited; apparently missed a port, just not familiar with this one:

We have been buying the 12 bottle Silver Package which covered wines up to $31 on

the list, and we often paid a little extra for others.

Not much around $31 now.

Definitely going to pay the corkage and bring several cases of what we like on board for our 49 day cruise.

Unless of course they raise the corkage to $25 - I can see that one coming...……….

If they do change to higher onboard prices and higher corkage fees, they lose an advantage over other lines. They may do so. Other changes have driven many cruisers to the smaller, luxury lines, that would just be another. Time will tell. Still hoping the change turns out to be positive.

Yes indeed two out of our 3 booked cruises coming up are on Windstar and SeaDream and only one on Princess because of changes Princess made to drink promotions and prices making it cost effective or us to pay more up front but pay less on board.

We do not usually cruise in a cabin category which allows sip and sail, although in any case from what I read on CC the prices including that generally cost more anyhow.

Will be interesting to see if they raise the prices/$ limits on the Gold and Silver packages.

Thanks for posting!

They didn't put up the price of the Chateau Lafite Rothschild at $1600, same as old list.

They hardly have any margin at all on that ( !!!! )as it retails about $500 in the US.

I only remember that wine as on our last cruise our waiter told us he had a passenger order one - and the waiter and his assistant were granted 2 days off in St Petersburg and put on a sightseeing tour as a reward.

Just a note here that Princess doesn't allow fortified wines to be brought onboard. No port.

IE, you are the best.

Princess is definitely upgrading the wine list. While I, personally, think that is great, I'm not sure that it matches the desires of the "typical" Princess cruiser. I guess we'll see.

Miscellaneous thoughts:

  • There are a significant number of Australian wines. There is no question that Australian wines are "world class" quality. Also, though, I see a lot of Cruise Critic contributors are from "Down Under." So, Australian wine lovers will have "local" choices.
  • I'm loving the choices of domestic Merlots--and at a nice range of prices. I'm sure that many remember the movie "Sideways." I think "Sideways" did more to improve the quality of domestic Merlot than any other factor.
  • I assume that the Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon is the Napa Valley bottling. The bottle price ($46) is, roughly, twice the retail "street price" for that bottling. I would be happy to pay $46 for that wine to go with a steak in a restaurant.
  • Definitely, a big pass on the Chinese CS.
  • I'm pretty sure that Mrs. XBGuy will enjoy the selection of white Burgs
  • The Rieussec will be tempting. I would love to have room, after dinner, to order that with dessert, sometime. My problem is that, normally, after making my way through multiple meal courses, I am so full, I really don't want dessert. If they offered poached pears stuffed with blue-veined cheese dessert, I might be tempted to skip my entree and go right to that with the Rieussec.

I only remember that wine as on our last cruise our waiter told us he had a passenger order one - and the waiter and his assistant were granted 2 days off in St Petersburg and put on a sightseeing tour as a reward.

That is very interesting. I've often wondered if the restaurant servers and the headwaiters received any recognition (or, better, yet, spendable motivation) for selling upper end wines.

Had fun at Bevmo 5c sale and all stocked up for 11/28/18 (if I stay out of it). 2 ea: Chateau Ste Michelle Chardonnay, Pinot Grecio, Merlot = $36 total. Paying corkage ;)

Thank you for the info on "no bringing port on board," will enjoy their LBV one

Looks much better. I wish the French champagne would be better. Not a fan of clicquot. The other one is ok. No more Shramsburg ,which is too bad. Chandon price up 5. At $40 way over priced. Often see around $15 at Safeway.

The problem with ordering really high end wines is that the food doesn’t stand up to it. If you are going to increase the quality of the Wines, There has to be some attempt to upgrade the food. If I can get a Filet Mignon from the steak house at an up charge, I would be more likely to splurge on the wine. I really hate it when the wine is better than the food, which is often the case when I bring wine to a restaurant.

Living in California, I would appreciate some reviews and suggestions for Australian wines. My few experiences were not good. The Shiraz I have had were not good.

XBGuy...I’ve been told several times that crew receive extra benefits such as extra time off including in port by selling the wine package. That’s why I always purchase it from my dining room waitstaff who will provide my wine.

Thanks, AF. I'm glad to here that the hard working restaurant and dining room staff can receive recognition and rewards.

With the increased prices on the new Wine List, the Silver Package seems outdated and both packages should be modified, perhaps with the Silver Package increased to $35 and the Gold Package increased to $55 or something similar.

Silver 12 bottle package was $240 plus 15%. Seemed affordable. Too good to last.

So that will go up quite a bit no doubt. I think the more they put it up the less they will sell..

Self defeating.

There wasn't too much on the old wine list at $31 or below really, last cruise we paid the extra $3 or $4 to drink something we really liked like Zen of Zin or Conundrum or a decent Mondavi.

Good point. There isn't any venue on Princess ship that could match a Petrus or Lafite (would I still have to ask for the Riedel white wine glass?!). Otherwise, I do like most of the additions.

The new Wine List appears to have fewer than a half dozen of the wines from the old Wine List so you will probably need to find a new favorite. One nice addition is the inclusion of the vintage. For those of you who win big at the Casino, you can order a 2009 Dom Perignon for $199 or if you prefer reds, a 2014 Amuse Bouche for $279, a 2014 Opus One for $289, a 2014 Chateau Clinet for $299, a 2014 Ao Yun Shangri-La Cabernet Sauvignon for $399, a 2014 Masseto for $629, a 2014 Penfolds Grange for $989, a 2011/2012 Chateau Lafite Rothschild for $1,600, or a 2010 Chateau Petrus for only $5,288.

Here is a summary of the new list:

Sparkling Wines & Champagnes - 10

Light and Mild - White Varieties - 7

Crisp & Tangy - White Varieties - 6

Refreshing - Sauvignon Blancs - 7

Fruity & Vibrant - White Varieties - 8

Rich & Textured - Chardonnays - 17

Rose Wines - 3

Soft & Mild - Pinot Noirs - 11

Spicy & Layered - Spanish Varieties - 4

Spicy & Layered - Italian Varieties - 10

Complex & Aromatic - Shiraz & GSMs - 9

Lush & Perfumed - Merlot & Bordeaux Blends - 8

Aristocratic & Elegant - Bordeaux Wines - 6

Strong & Noble - Cabernet Sauvignons - 9

Multifaceted - Red Blends - 2

Sweet & Luscious - Dessert Wines - 5

I have to say I will miss the Simi Cabernet we had. The only one we can find local as a Simi is one step under, so not comparable. Maybe it was the best of our choices on Coral last year (with no vines) but it seemed like a nice full bodied red in the PBP price point. Could only get at Crooners by the glass, they’d have it ready for us! Guess we will enjoy finding a new favorite!
