Stinger-pr Posted October 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 17, 2018 Did a search on FB and on Google and could not find anything even closely related to damage on the Dawn due to weather. Is this poster legit? Is it on a Norwegian cruises or Dawn specific FB pages?
Kim43071 Posted October 17, 2018 #3 Share Posted October 17, 2018 Saw it as well on a Group page for a future sailing in the Dawn. We leave on the 9th November someone is posting that there was a rogue wave and it damaged windows on floors 4,5,6 and posted video of water pouring into casino from ceiling. roger001 Posted October 17, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 17, 2018 That type damage did occur back in about '05 I think. Maybe it is relating to that incident.

Yeah, the likelihood of the ship hitting a rogue wave twice is pretty far out. And as far back as the casino is, this would have been a wave from one side, and the ship would have had to roll significantly from this. I would say that unless there are a bunch of unhappy campers in the atrium from flooded cabins, that this is a water main break in the overhead of the casino. hladygirl Posted October 17, 2018 #6 Share Posted October 17, 2018 I happened to look at the Dawn webcam yesterday and the sea was extremely angry. I do not think they were able to port.
Gampy1967 Posted October 17, 2018 #7 Share Posted October 17, 2018 As long as it is fixed by the last week of March I am good. Don't go to the casino anyway.
Stinger-pr Posted October 17, 2018 #8 Share Posted October 17, 2018 If water was coming in from the ceiling in the casino, that wave would've have to reach at least deck 7 since the casino is on deck 6.

Sea saw 56 Posted October 17, 2018 #10 Share Posted October 17, 2018 I looked at the Dawn webcam several times yesterday, knew she was to be in Charlottetown, but it was sailing in horribly rough waters. Looked like a washing machine and I knew there were probably lots of sick people aboard. Have no doubt that the problems reported could have been yesterday. A site that I view reported 4 ships did not port yesterday due to high winds at Charlottetown. Hopefully everyone is OK.
mef_57 Posted October 17, 2018 #11 Share Posted October 17, 2018 I am on the same Nov 9 FB group. HQ isn't talking until they get confirmation of the damages, but people are calling them saying they cannot contact people on board. Someone else posted a screen shot of a text thread stating windows on decks 4, 5 & 6 had broken as well as the flood, but were told it would be fixed tomorrow. Fake news? Tempest in a teapot? Just assume more news to come.
C cruise Posted October 18, 2018 #12 Share Posted October 18, 2018 I thought I read on facebook it was a pipe in the ceiling that broke.... hmmmm? now I am wondering
weloveamerica Posted October 18, 2018 #13 Share Posted October 18, 2018 My friends are on the dawn now and have confirmed that they did not port in charlottetown due to the bad weather. WickedRed Posted October 18, 2018 #14 Share Posted October 18, 2018 I have a friend on the Dawn right now. She reported the other day that the seas were extremely rough and that there was a large crash as water poured though the ceiling on the casino. They actually closed the casino that night. Haven't heard any updates or about any broken windows.
newmexicoNita Posted October 18, 2018 #15 Share Posted October 18, 2018 Hope we get varification from NCL soon. I am sure as bad as the damage appears to be from some reports, all will be fixed and ready for the next group to sail away. Just one more thing if I may: for all of you who gets pissed because a port is cancelled this should be a lesson. There are reasons why ships do not always follow their original itinerary. I am sure in this case, there was little that could have been done. Things happen, but do remember, when you think the seas look fine or the ship could have docked they can not always. Hope the ship is back to normal by this weekend and all in ok with the passengers.
vette Posted October 18, 2018 #16 Share Posted October 18, 2018 I sure hope everything is okay on the Dawn (especially the casino), because we get on her next week.

Mike_DeA Posted October 18, 2018 #18 Share Posted October 18, 2018 Hope everyone on the ship is ok. They do seem to normally get these type of things cleaned up and repaired quickly.

AlaskaAtLast Posted October 19, 2018 #20 Share Posted October 19, 2018 I saw the video on FB. Water was pouring into the casino from the ceiling and there was standing water on the floor. The person said they were in the casino (other side) when they heard a 'crash' and water started pouring in. They seemed to think it was pipe that burst between the duty free shop above the casino and the casino ceiling. I have not seen an update but I'm sure they will get it fixed ASAP. They don't want to lose casino revenue.
jdvmd Posted October 19, 2018 #21 Share Posted October 19, 2018 Any updates? Hope everyone is O.K. and the damage is minimal.
zqvol Posted October 19, 2018 #22 Share Posted October 19, 2018 You would think that if something consequential had happened that someone on board would have provided details. Since there is nothing from on board the ship, I suspect that this is no big deal.
AlaskaAtLast Posted October 20, 2018 #23 Share Posted October 20, 2018 UPDATE - Someone just posted on FB that they boarded the Dawn today and the casino looks great. I guess whatever it was just looked worse in the video and they were able to get it all fixed pretty quickly.

Barb Nahoumi Posted October 20, 2018 #25 Share Posted October 20, 2018 I hope that all will be fixed by the 26th, as that is our sail date. Our cabins are on deck 5. Would anyone know the condition of cabin 5580 and 5582?
