Credit for days at sea

Also, the “perk” water is one of the bigger bottles. The water included with Cheers are the regular size water bottles, unless you go to the MDR. You can get the large water bottles there and take them back to your room, however, I rarely go to the MDR, so I actually do like having the large bottle already in my room (see reasons posted above).

Cruising and flying business dynamics are a lot different. On a cruise if someone gets an inside cabin it is very possible that they will by the end of the cruise spend as much or more than someone in a balcony. Perhaps they save money for inside cabin so they can spend it on other things. Someone who chooses to spend more to get a balcony would seem to be more likely to be the sort that would spend more time in their room and not out and about buying drinks and playing in the casino. So if you get your wish and Carnival awards points for how much you spend in total with them then where would you fit in the scheme of things. During your time on a flight an Airline does not have a lot of opportunity to take much more of your money than what you paid for your seat so of course rewards are going to be given in relation to which seat you purchase.

As others have observed you cannot be gold and be anywhere near Diamond, and there is nowhere in Florida that is 3 hours from Jacksonville and 3 hours from Miami.

Sure there is.  The area around Melbourne, and really Orlando if you count "3.5 hours" and don't focus on technicalities.  In other words, Central Florida is about 2 - 3 hours from all the ports in Florida.

Why should a person in an inside cabin get credit for as many days as a person in a balcony stateroom? Simple. Because they are sailing the same number of days. 

 

It is your choice to pay more for a nicer cabin and you are being rewarded by having the nicer cabin. I spend MORE than enough money on my interior cabin cruises to be rewarded with a bottle of water and a throw away gift.

I'm guessing the Carnival will eventually go to status levels based on dollars spent. 

 

While there are pluses/minuses to any tiered system as to how are points earned, money is the common denominator everyone can relate to and understand.....

On our last cruise we sat with this nice couple in the MDR every night. It was 3 or 4 days into the cruise before we discovered they were Diamonds. And another couple at our table were Platinum. Not everyone cares about or notices card color.

 

 

Carnival (with Barclay) offer a 10% statement credit for Carnival shore excursions purchased in advance. Carnival is happy with the money and customers are happy with more money in their pocket.

Anywhere along the Atlantic coast from Titusville to Vero Beach is within 3 hrs of Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa.  (And therefore also Ft Lauderdale).  I just did the Google Maps travel times.

 

Downtown Orlando is a little further to Miami, but if you started in Bithlo (!) it would be pretty close to 3 hrs.

Forgot about Jacksonville.  We've sailed out of Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami.  We've passed the port in Tampa - it's also three hours.  I'meant to say we're gold and will go to the next level on this cruise.

… but your post that suggests that you could get rewards for every dollar that you spend on the cruise is exactly what the credit card does. Some people can or choose to use it, others can't. What you are suggesting is something completely different. 

 

For that to happen someone at Carnival would have to make the suggestion that some people out there don't like our reward program and scrap our current program those people. It just doesn't sound likely, does it. Just for the record, I do believe there are cruise lines that do have programs that work very close to that. Then, if that is something of importance to anybody, they have the choice to support that cruise line as opposed to Carnival. That's why all these cruise line do things just a little differently, because they are trying to satisfy the needs of everyone. 

 

Coming on site like this and making comments like, why doesn't company x do things like company y is pointless. They get to make the decisions on how to run the company and we get to make the decision on which company support with our cash. Looks pretty easy to me. If you don't like what someone is offering you, there are better alternatives. So the questions should be more like...which cruise line offers me the things I want?
