Credit for days at sea

The two times the water is useful is when you cruise out of a place like Galveston where cheers doesn’t kick in until day 2. Or when you’re in the room and don’t have any other water and don’t feel like going to a bar to get some.

Also, the “perk” water is one of the bigger bottles. The water included with Cheers are the regular size water bottles, unless you go to the MDR. You can get the large water bottles there and take them back to your room, however, I rarely go to the MDR, so I actually do like having the large bottle already in my room (see reasons posted above).

We do other vacations.  We just got back from FantasyFest in Key West.  We will do a spring vacation to the French Riviera.  Not to mention trips from Florida to visit our kids up north.  Also, when we fly business or first class we get more frequent flyer points.

Cruising and flying business dynamics are a lot different. On a cruise if someone gets an inside cabin it is very possible that they will by the end of the cruise spend as much or more than someone in a balcony. Perhaps they save money for inside cabin so they can spend it on other things. Someone who chooses to spend more to get a balcony would seem to be more likely to be the sort that would spend more time in their room and not out and about buying drinks and playing in the casino. So if you get your wish and Carnival awards points for how much you spend in total with them then where would you fit in the scheme of things. During your time on a flight an Airline does not have a lot of opportunity to take much more of your money than what you paid for your seat so of course rewards are going to be given in relation to which seat you purchase.

We are gold and approaching diamond.  We always take a balcony cabin usually on the higher decks.  Why does Carnival award days solely on the number of days sailed?  Why should a person in an inside cabin get credit for as many days as a person in a balcony or stateroom?  If we took an inside cabin we could have sailed on more cruises - we are retired and live within 2 to 3 hours of all Florida ports so we have the time.

As others have observed you cannot be gold and be anywhere near Diamond, and there is nowhere in Florida that is 3 hours from Jacksonville and 3 hours from Miami.

Sure there is.  The area around Melbourne, and really Orlando if you count "3.5 hours" and don't focus on technicalities.  In other words, Central Florida is about 2 - 3 hours from all the ports in Florida.

Port Canaveral, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa? Perhaps you've heard of them?

Why should a person in an inside cabin get credit for as many days as a person in a balcony stateroom? Simple. Because they are sailing the same number of days.

It is your choice to pay more for a nicer cabin and you are being rewarded by having the nicer cabin. I spend MORE than enough money on my interior cabin cruises to be rewarded with a bottle of water and a throw away gift.

When I posted, originally, I had no idea this would balloon the way it has.  We're very happy with Carnival and feel we get good value for what we spend and are, overall, very satisfied with Carnival - we've only had one bad experience.  One reply said that getting a balcony cabin is a perk.  No, it's not a perk.  A perk is getting something extra that you don't pay for. perk.

There is no free lunch. Make no mistake, perks are not free. No business is reducing the bottom line. Someone other than the cruise line is paying for it.

I'm guessing the Carnival will eventually go to status levels based on dollars spent.

While there are pluses/minuses to any tiered system as to how are points earned, money is the common denominator everyone can relate to and understand.....

Looks like you received massive credits, if you are going from Gold to Diamond!

Try MSC they give extra points for higher Categories and Experience  (You will need to read up about that)

be sure and read up on the part about if you don't COMPLETE a cruise within a 3 year period, you lose your current status and start over.

It's about money. Plain and simple money. Offer an extra day count if I buy my excursion thru Carnival. Offer an extra day based on money spent. That makes them more money. It makes the badge snobs happy. It makes stock holders and boards happy. Everyone happy. Happy happy.

On our last cruise we sat with this nice couple in the MDR every night. It was 3 or 4 days into the cruise before we discovered they were Diamonds. And another couple at our table were Platinum. Not everyone cares about or notices card color.

Carnival (with Barclay) offer a 10% statement credit for Carnival shore excursions purchased in advance. Carnival is happy with the money and customers are happy with more money in their pocket.

Anywhere along the Atlantic coast from Titusville to Vero Beach is within 3 hrs of Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa.  (And therefore also Ft Lauderdale).  I just did the Google Maps travel times.

Downtown Orlando is a little further to Miami, but if you started in Bithlo (!) it would be pretty close to 3 hrs.

 On Carnival or MSC?

1.5 Length of Membership MSC Voyagers Club Membership is subject to a minimum of one cruise every three years. If the last cruise disembarkation date is over 3 years (36 months) or no cruise has been completed in 3 years after the enrolment date, membership to the MSC Voyagers Club program will expire. For example: if the last disembarkation date is 30.01.2015 and no cruises are completed by 30.01.2018, the membership will expire. If the registration date is 30.01.2015 and no cruises are completed by 30.01.2018, the membership will expire. Should the membership expire, passengers must subscribe to the MSC Voyagers Club again. Subscription will be subject to the conditions stated. A new Club Identification Number will be assigned.

I don't see how that entitles you to higher rank. I'm nearly platinum, live in Florida and typically do an indoor room because I'm rarely in the room and it serves as a bedroom and a closet. Yet, you think you deserve more than me? This could get really political really fast and I won't go there, but, that mind set is a lot of what's wrong with this country in general.

Very well said.

Forgot about Jacksonville.  We've sailed out of Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami.  We've passed the port in Tampa - it's also three hours.  I'meant to say we're gold and will go to the next level on this cruise.

I hear what you are saying, and to some extent, I do agree with you.  However, technically no one is stopping you from doing just what you said: booking more cruises in insides rather than fewer cruises in balconies.  Personally, I think they should do away with the whole tiered rewards program altogether.  I would much prefer something more like credit card rewards: earn points for every dollar spent (on anything with Carnival, not just the cruise fare), and then be able to cash in those points towards future purchases with Carnival.  This would encourage people to keep sailing with Carnival, but would eliminate the entitlement that often comes along with the higher up tiered levels.

big problem with the credit card thing......... only Americans can get the credit card.

Um, what?  Are you talking about the Carnival credit card?  My post has nothing to do with the Carnival credit card.  I said that the rewards program should be like credit card rewards points.

Hi

… but your post that suggests that you could get rewards for every dollar that you spend on the cruise is exactly what the credit card does. Some people can or choose to use it, others can't. What you are suggesting is something completely different.

For that to happen someone at Carnival would have to make the suggestion that some people out there don't like our reward program and scrap our current program those people. It just doesn't sound likely, does it. Just for the record, I do believe there are cruise lines that do have programs that work very close to that. Then, if that is something of importance to anybody, they have the choice to support that cruise line as opposed to Carnival. That's why all these cruise line do things just a little differently, because they are trying to satisfy the needs of everyone.

Coming on site like this and making comments like, why doesn't company x do things like company y is pointless. They get to make the decisions on how to run the company and we get to make the decision on which company support with our cash. Looks pretty easy to me. If you don't like what someone is offering you, there are better alternatives. So the questions should be more like...which cruise line offers me the things I want?
